Foreword

"No!!!" I scream.

"Shin Joohyun you are going to China! I've had it with you!" She screams right back.

"I am not going!!!!!" I screamed, twice as loud.

"Your attitude, your grades, not to mention your behaviour! Did I raise you this way?"

I rolled my eyes and leant against the doorframe beside me. Mom tuts and storms over to the pile of opened letters sitting innocently on the side of the kitchen countertop. She picks up the entire pile.

"Skipping class," she reads and puts the letter to the bottom of the pile.

"Oh my god that does not count! Megan was hurt and I took her to see the nurse!" I whine.

"Insulting a member of staff,"

"She insulted me first! She called me dumb..."

"Oh which leads me to my next point." She puts down the letters with a sigh and walks over to the other end of the kitchen and picks up... Oh . They're all my test results...

"20%?! I thought you loved geography?" She shrieks holding up a little yellow card. These cards are sent out to let our parents know we're failing. Such a bull idea right?

"I didn't understand it! I swear, all through lessons I got it, then the test came and it was all stuff we'd never learnt about!"

"You are going to China, end of discussion. No boys, no phone, no friends, no partying. You've pushed it too far this time Joohyun."

"I'm not going." I fold my arms.

"Joohyun! You are going to China!" She slams her hands down on the countertop.

Baffled, I look over to my Dad sitting at the dining table, who's watching all of this. I look back at mom helplessly one last time. She just gives me a cold, hard stare. Not the slightest hint sympathy present.

"UUUGHHHHHHHHH!" I yelled and stormed up the stairs and slammed my bedroom door.

I reached under my pillow for my phone. ! Where the hell is my phone?! I groaned and opened my bedroom door.

"Mom!!!!! Where's my phone?!!!!" I scream.

"You're not getting it until you come back from China in 8 months!" She shouts up the stairs.

"8 MONTHS?!!?!!! YOU SAID 4!!!!!!! THAT'S MY ENTIRE SUMMER!!!!!!!"

"Well I think it's obvious that you need 8!!!!!" She shouts.

I slammed my door shut once again and lept onto my bed. This balls... I hate this! Why China?! My Chinese is ! Korean schools are good too! Oh my god she is being such a at the moment! I cannot deal with this... This is pointless! I refuse to go!

I look out of the car window and sigh as the airport comes into view. Apparently some family friends of dad are picking me up and I'm staying with them. They have a son and an older daughter. What if they hate me?! Or bully me because I'm not Chinese. Ughhh this is bull!!! This little boy better not annoy me too much. Children should be seen and not heard. Definitely true...

"We're here." Mom turns back and looks at me softly.

I turned around and looked out the window again. Bit late for the 'nice mum' act. I see dad getting my suitcase from the back of the car. I rolled my eyes and got out the car.

"Here, if you hold that for a sec..." Dad hands me my rucksack.

"Why didn't you stop her?" I ask.

He sighs and stopped for a second. "We all know this is for your own good. But your grades are dropping, your mother's always crying, saying that she's a terrible mom and I don't know what to tell her!" He cups my face. "We love you mush. And we don't want to see you go." He pinched my cheek.

"I don't want to go..." I tear up as I hear him call me 'mush' like when I was a little kid.

"Come on, it's only 8 months. 8 measly little months." He smiled. He held my hand and pulled my suitcase for me. I hear the car door opening and shutting and mom walking to us.

"I'm sorry..." says mom.

I look at her face. She's a strong woman, I've actually never seen her cry. I hugged her tightly. She squeezes me back and rocks me back and fourth slightly.

"My baby... we're going to miss you." She kisses the top of my head.

"Bye mom." I pulled away and took my suitcase from dad. I take one last look at my parents and took my first fews steps into the airport.

Chapter 4: Please continue this! I've been waiting to see what happens next (the fic itself is actually well-paced and interesting; it feels llike a kdrama).
