PART 1

While You Were Away

"I've reach your place already. Meet at the lobby alright?" Bomi ended the call after getting a response from her friend. It wasn't until 10 minutes later when she spotted a familiar face in the lobby. Bomi was already used to her friend being late but she still reaches early every time; just in case, so that her friend wouldn't have to wait for her.

"Sorry! I forgot to iron my school uniform the night before, that's why I was late." Chorong says with her hands clasped together, as a sign of apology.

It's amazing for Bomi as to how Chorong comes up with a different excuse every time. Like the other day, Chorong said that her pet cat was sad to see her leave, so she stayed back a little longer to comfort it. Bomi knew that her friend is the person who always likes sleeping in, so she just plays along with Chorong.

"It's okay. You're worth the wait." Bomi replied to Chorong. It's always the same reply from Bomi, because Chorong is indeed worth waiting for.

"You just love making me feel bad don't you?" Chorong responded as both of them now make their way to school. Today was the day where the seniors have been waiting for. The results of their final exam will determine which university they get to enter. Upon reaching school, they saw their classmates, Hayoung and Naeun sitting down in the school hall. Bomi and Chorong approached them and quickly settle down.

"I'm so n-n-nervous for the results!" Hayoung stutters as the teachers now called out the students one by one to step out and receive their result slip. Naeun had to run her hand down Hayoung's back trying to keep Hayoung calm because Hayoung looks like she’s about pass out any moment.

Unlike Bomi who was calm, Chorong on the hand was no less nervous than Hayoung. Bomi is the type who is calm and always accepts results in positive mind set. She believe in herself that she had tried her best and whatever result that she gets, it's the true reflection of how much efforts she puts in.

Chorong, on the contrary, is a perfectionist. She is someone who is very ambitious. She believes strongly that education is one of the most important things to have in order for someone to be successful in life. Bomi couldn't help but notice the worried expression that Chorong had. Bomi hates to see Chorong being worried. As expected, Chorong could be seen biting her fingernails. It’s a bad habit that Chorong had whenever she’s worried or nervous.

“Stop biting your nails, it doesn’t go well with your pretty face.” Bomi reaches out for Chorong’s hand, stopping Chorong from continuing her bad habit.

“Bbomi-ah, what do I do? I’m so nervous?”

“Stop worrying, you’ll do just fine” Bomi reassured Chorong.

As expected, Chorong did wonderful. Heck, she was one of the top students in the cohort. Bomi on the other hand, did fairly good too. However, Bomi’s result could only secure her a spot in a local university while Chorong already had some ‘love calls’ from other prestigious overseas universities.

Both of them decided to have lunch outside as a form of celebration for getting excellent results. “You improved on your maths so much, Bbomi-ah. You used to fail it all the time.” Chorong commented as she took a look at Bomi’s result slip.

“I couldn’t have passed it if it wasn’t for you. You were my maths tutor, you are really the best.” Bomi put up both of her thumb, showing her satisfaction and gratitude towards Chorong.

The waitress arrived shortly and took their orders.

“Bomi-ah, should I take the offer?”

“How is that even a question? Of course you should. It’s once in a lifetime opportunity Chorong-ah.”

“But it’s all the way in the United Kingdom.”

“So? We can always keep in touch. There are all sorts of technology we can use to communicate.”

The food they ordered arrived as they got deep in to their conversation. Bomi’s food was served first. Her eyes never left the sight of her freshly cooked steak. She look around for utensils and was just about to dig in, when she realised Chorong’s food haven’t arrive yet. She calmed down and put down her utensils on top of the napkin.

“It’s okay, you can start eating first.” Chorong giggles.

“No I can wait for your food to come. I can’t start without you.” Bomi’s face reddened as soon as she realise that she looks like some greedy child who haven’t eat in ages.

“So cute! Yoon Bomi really is uncontrollable when it comes to food.” Chorong burst out into laughter, couldn’t resist her friend’s adorable antics.

In the middle of the excitement, Chorong’s food arrives and she can already see Bomi preparing the utensils, about to attack her steak. As soon as the waitress placed Chorong’s bowl on the table, Bomi began inhaling her food.

“Diz iz hooo kooood.” Bomi mumbles as she chomped down her food.

“Aish, this kid. Don’t talk with your mouth full.” Chorong tried to calm Bomi down before she chocked on her food.

Their conversation deepens as they finish their food.

D-day

The day Bomi dreaded the most was here. It was time to say goodbye to her best friend. For the next 2 years, she would be here in Seoul without Chorong. Bomi dragged her feet as she gets nearer to the boarding gate. She searches for Chorong. Chorong could be seen hugging her parents tightly, getting kissed and bided farewell.

Bomi flinches as Chorong approached the gate, getting closer to Bomi. The looks in Chorong’s eyes displayed so many emotions. Chorong held Bomi’s hands and slightly caressed them with her thumb.

“I will do well right? We’re going to keep in contact right? You will be fine withou-“Bomi placed her fingers onto Chorong’s soft lips.

“Don’t worry. Everything will be just fine. Trust me.”

“Is it okay with you? It’s not too late for me to back out.”

“Chorong-ah, please say something that makes sense.”

Chorong couldn’t help but will sad. It was her dream to study overseas but she didn’t know parting with her family and friends would be this difficult. Chorong took a final turn and waved good bye to her family members.

Chorong then let go of Bomi’s hand and finally made her way in to the gate, eventually passing the security and immigration.

“I can do this. I will do this for my family; I will do this for Bomi.” Chorong reminded herself.

-

Bomi made her way home from the airport. In the bus she kept reminded herself that she had two years to muster up her courage to tell Chorong; the truth.

Chapter 3: waa this was great!!^^ the long distance, the troubles with overseas calls, the jealousy misunderstanding taken care of quickly, and the way they've been strong in that time apart. Bomi was finally able to have that courage! and Chorong~ oh how she could be so witty and adapt that quickly. She must have known it too, and clearly she had thought about it before hehe. That person by her side <3 thank you for writing :))
