Final.

The Story Behind the Clock

"Do I look alright?"

"Yeah. You look good."

"I'm not under dressed, right?"

"No, you're not. We are not going to a five-star restaurant, Jinki."

"What if I messed up? Or my sangtae gets in the way? They'll never approve of me for sure."

"I'll still love you and I bet they'll still love you. You're adorable. Who wouldn't love you?"

"Now I'm nervous about this. Can we just go back? What if –"

Kibum suddenly stepped on the breaks, stopping the car and also Jinki from his ramblings. "What are you even thinking, Lee Jinki? We're going to my parent's house and that's final. They'll like you. I have high standards, Jinki," He took a hold of Jinki's trembling hand, "and you surpassed it all with flying colors. I love you with your sangtae and all."

Jinki blushed beet red as he nodded. Kibum smiled and pinched his cheeks before continuing to drive off to his hometown.

The two of them finally had the time to visit Kibum's parents in Daegu after months of busy schedules. The younger had managed to convince Jinki to meet his parents as his boyfriend and not as his leader. The older was reluctant at first but his mind runs back to the thought of the time Kibum made time to meet his parents back when they just started dating. It was actually time for him to build up his courage and visit Kibum's parents as their son's boyfriend. He'd do anything for Kibum.

After hours of driving, they soon arrived at Daegu. Jinki continues to fidget at his seat and Kibum couldn't help but let out small chuckles at his boyfriend's cuteness. Seriously, this has been the cutest Jinki has ever been in Kibum's eyes.

He couldn't help but fall for his boyfriend a little more.

Kibum took a glance around the community he grew up in. It feels good to be back after months of endless and tiring schedules. He seriously missed his home.

He knocked on the door, feeling excited as ever, and his mother opened the door just a few seconds after he did. His mother greeted him with a warm smile and ushered the both of them inside. This time, Jinki was nervous as hell.

"Kibum, it's been a while." She said, her eyes twinkling with happiness.

Kibum hugged her, savoring the warmth his mother gives. "Umma! I hope you don't mind I brought Jinki hyung along."

"Of course, it's alright. It's about time we meet him on a different note, right?" She says, turning to Jinki who is standing by the door.

Jinki bowed politely before saying, "Good day, Mrs. Kim. Thank you for the warm welcome."

Thankfully, his voice didn't betray him but he couldn't miss the giggles Kibum does beside his mother. The giggles turned into laughter as Jinki looks at him, puzzled.

After gaining back his composure, he says, "I'm sorry. It's just that Jinki hyung looks so nervous and he also sounds so formal it's so weird and funny."

"Oh come on, dear." She shakes her head and smiled. "Speaking of which, your father will arrive just before dinner. And I'll cook your favorite, Jinki, anything with chicken, right?"

"Yes. Thank you, Mrs. Kim." Jinki flashed a wide grin.

Kibum's mother then hugged him. "Don't be too formal Jinki. Just call me Umma. It's not like you're a stranger to me."

"Okay, Umma." The words feel so foreign leaving Jinki's lips, Kibum's heart skipped a beat and he smiled as he hears his boyfriend call his mother Umma.

"Now that's better. Kibum, why don't you bring your bags upstairs and show Jinki to your room so that you two can rest for a bit. Both of you must be tired from the long drive."

Kibum hugged his mother again whispering, "Thank you, Umma. You're the best."

"Anything for my son. Take care of this one. Jinki's a catch." She whispers back.

The two of them began their way upstairs, Jinki taking in every single detail about Kibum's house. He had visited before but with a different purpose. Now, his mind seems to take note every bit of it. This is the place where he grew up, he thought as he followed Kibum to his room.

Kibum's room is not that big but Jinki loved it nonetheless. And one thing he loved about it is that it smells Kibum all over. With a smile on his face, he began to look around the room especially on the wall where Kibum's childhood photos were displayed.

Cute, he thinks as he looked at every frame. But one particular thing on the wall caught his attention, an old cuckoo clock. It was hanging at the center of the wall, with the frames hanging around it.

He touched the object and couldn't help but be intrigued by its story. There has to be some story behind that Kibum couldn't throw it away or replace it with a new one.

Jinki was pulled out of his thoughts as he felt arms circling at his waist. "Mind to tell me why you're suddenly daydreaming in my room?"

"Huh?"

"I was calling your name a few times already, but your eyes are so fixated on that clock. It makes me sad a clock could draw your attention away from me." Jinki could feel his lover's pout even with his back the younger.

He faces Kibum and places a peck on the younger's pouting lips. "I'm just curious about it. It seems old and the bird looks like it's broken and stuff. I'm thinking about what sentimental value this clock holds. There must be one, right?"

The younger pulled away and walked towards his bed. "Cuddle with me?"

The older pretended to think for a few moments before flashing a wide grin that could bring the sun to shame. "I will on one condition." He puts up his index finger to accentuate his point.

"Let me guess? I have to tell you something about that clock?" Kibum smiled before lying on the bed. "Okay okay. Now come here. I need my teddy bear."

"Now I'm a teddy bear?" Jinki laughs as he lay down beside the younger.

"Yes, you're my teddy bear." Kibum snuggled closer to Jinki and began to tell the story.

A 6 year old Kibum was excited as he dressed up nicely for today's occasion. It's the day before Christmas and it means that he gets to open the presents sent by his friends and relatives that are sitting under their Christmas tree.

Throughout the day, he couldn't help but stare longingly at the presents under the tree, waiting for him to be opened. His mother told him that the presents should only be opened on Christmas Eve and that he has to be a good boy so Santa will give him another one.

"Good things come to those who wait." His father said after he asked why he needed to wait until the evening just to open his presents. His parents taught him to obey and be patient so as the good son he is, he will wait.

Just wait for me my dear presents, he says.

For the whole day, he helped his mother with the small chores in preparing their Christmas feast. At least it took his mind off the presents for a few hours.

His mother smile as he looks over his son who is standing in front of the tree, staring intently at the presents. It was already night and she was sure Kibum is just waiting for her permission to start opening them.

But they still have one last surprise for their Kibummie tonight.

"Yeobo, I think it's time." She says, waiting for the surprise to unfold.

Kibum's father took a glance at the time and smiled. It was indeed time.

"Jinkiii ~ I'm still talking! Stop with the kisses. It tickles!"

The older smiled, "Sorry, Bummie. I couldn't help it because you're so cute. And I could totally imagine little Bummie running errands for Umma. Ugh so cute ~" Jinki pinched the younger's cheeks, earning a few protest from the latter.

Kibum huffed and playfully glared at the older before saying, "Do you want me to continue the story or not?"

Jinki pouted. "Okay, I'll stop. Please do continue where you left off."

"Okay, then…."

Just on cue, the doorbell rang and Kibum automatically ran to open it. "I'll go get it, Umma!" His parents must be busy so he'll help them just by the small things.

Kibum was speechless by the second he opened the door. His eyes widen as he sees Santa Claus in front of him, with his red robe and white beard, greeting him a Merry Christmas.

"Kibum? Who is it?" His mother asked from the kitchen.

"S-sa-santa! It's Santa, Umma! He's here!" He was jumping up and down and Santa chuckled as he pats Kibum's head.

"Merry Christmas, Kibum. I see that you've been a good boy this year." Santa pulls out a present and hands it over to Kibum. "Now be a good boy as always."

And with that Santa left with a smile.

He ran towards the kitchen and excitedly showed his mother the present. "Umma! Umma! Santa gave me a gift! He gave me a gift!"

"I'm finished preparing. Why don't we go to the living room so that you could start opening your presents?"

"Really, Umma? I can open them already?"

"Of course, Kibum. You obeyed Umma really well today. I told you Santa will give you another one if you kept on being a good boy. Now come, your Appa must be waiting for us."

Kibum opened the gifts one by one, saving Santa's gift for last. He got a new bunch of toys and a few sets of clothes from his friends and relatives. And now that it came to opening the last gift, he undid the ribbon and slowly tears the wrapping.

His eyes sparkled at the thing inside. It was the clock he keeps talking about a few weeks before, the clock with the bird that comes out of that little door at the top.

"Umma, Appa! It's the clock I want before! What is it called again? Cocoo, no, Cu—"

"Cuckoo clock, Bummie." His mother corrected him.

"Yes, cuckoo clock. This is the best gift ever!" He said, smiling.

His father pats his head. "Be sure to pray your thanks before you go to sleep, okay?"

"Okay, Appa!"

The night went by and it's already time to sleep. Kibum looked over the wall his new clock was now hanging to. It made him smile and he put his hands together to pray.

"Thank you for the blessings I have received today. I promise I will continue to be a good boy and obey Appa and Umma. Amen."

6 year old Kibum then lay down and eventually drifts off to his dream land with a huge smile on his face.

"The end." Kibum said, placing a small peck at Jinki's lips. "To be honest, I still don't know who dressed up as Santa back then. It was still a secret kept by my parents. You could say I couldn't throw that clock because it holds that certain memory for me. For the record, you're the only one that knows about this aside from my parents."

"You're so adorable. I'm so honored to know this childhood memory of you." Jinki began to rain small kisses all over Kibum's face, making the younger blush crimson red. "I think I'm falling for you more, if that's even possible."

"When the time comes and I'll have a family of my own, I'll probably do the same to my children. I'll probably surprise them just like that."

"When the time comes." Jinki repeats, "We'll be surprising our children like that." He says with a hint of finality, before raining a few more kisses to the younger's face.

"Jinki ~ stop that. I told you it –" His words were cut off by a full kiss on his lips, a kiss he couldn't help but return.

They kissed for a while and Jinki's hands began to travel over the younger's body. Kibum reluctantly pulled away, stopping things before it gets out of hand. He wants Jinki, but the time and place isn't just right.

He was left breathless by the time he pulled away. "Jinki, we can't. My parents are downstairs." He whispered against his boyfriend's lips.

"They wouldn't hear us if we could keep our voices down. I promise I'll be gentle. Hmm, Kibum?" The younger knew he was screwed because Jinki was using that voice on him, that low and seducing voice. "Please, I missed you. It's been a while since I held you like this."

"Okay, I think we still have time before dinner."

They both began to lean in for a kiss, but before they closed the gap between them, a knock was heard on the door.

"Kibum, Jinki, the dinner is ready! Come and join us." His mother says at the other side of the door. Glancing over the old clock, Kibum saw it was indeed time for dinner.

Kibum sat up before replying, "Okay, Umma. I'll just wake up Jinki hyung from his nap. We'll be right down."

"Don't be too long. We'll be waiting downstairs." The sound of fading footsteps was heard and he knew they were alone once again.

Jinki frowns as Kibum pouts and began to fix himself. "Just so you know, we're so continuing this later, hyung. Don't even think of sleeping once we get here later."

Jinki laughs as he heard Kibum mumbling "oh God he always makes me feel and damn he's " as he stood up from the bed.

Jinki's frown was wiped from his face as he excitedly stood up in just in front of Kibum and kissed him once again. He leans closer to match Kibum's ear level and whispers, "I'll be looking forward to it."

Kibum huffed in annoyance before opening the door and walking out of the room, with Jinki a few steps behind him.

Music Edge Recording, a year after.

"What will come up now? ... There you go! Christmas memories!" The MC said, showing everyone and the camera the result of the modified dice.

Jinki listens intently as Minho began to talk about the remote control car he received from Santa one Christmas morning. And he wasn't really surprised when the MC asked about the others' special childhood memory. Perhaps it was his intuition that says who will answer the question this time.

"There's one time I met Santa. When I was six, he just came to our house." Kibum started. Of course, it's about that time. "Whoever that Santa was, it's still a secret kept by my parents."

"Eh? Really? A Santa Claus really came?" Jinki listened at the MC's question, his mind thinking of how Kibum will explain the story. To be honest, the MC doesn't look quite convinced. "What happened?"

"He really rang our doorbell and said, "It's Santa!". I was just six that time." Kibum laughed before continuing the story, "When I received the present and opened it, it was a clock. I still have it even now."

"What kind of clock is it?"

Kibum began to do a hand gesture, explaining how big the clock is and said, "It was a big clock and –"

That was when Jinki couldn't help but in the conversation. "… a bird comes out." He says as a matter of fact.

"Ah, like a cuckoo clock?" The MC asked.

"Yes. Now, the bird is broken but it's still there with the clock."

The MC hummed as a form of reply before leaving the topic and moving on the next possible question.

After the recording, Jinki took the liberty of thanking the staffs and the MC for another successful filming and made his way to the dressing room. There, he sees s but his eyes only focused on one. His Kibum.

He made his way towards the younger and wrapped his arms around the Kibum's waist. "You did great today."

"So did you, hyung." The younger placed a small kiss on Jinki's cheeks, earning a lot of cat-calls from their band mates.

After the cat calls, Jonghyun began to look at the couple suspiciously. "Speaking of which, how did you know about the clock Kibum is talking about, hyung?"

Jinki's mind then replays everything that happened a year ago. He remembers everything including the story behind the clock, the teasing and the night after. It was all too crystal-clear in his mind.

Kibum smiles all too knowingly before answering, "Let's just say hyung can be so curious about things."
