2014.12.24

Taehyun, waking up from his slumber, looked up at the date as he scrolled through his phone to unlock the screen and open the message he had just received.

[From flat :

Good morning maknae~ I bet you’re still sleeping ㄱㅅㄱ

I just wanted to check that you didn’t forget about our meeting tomorrow with Jinwoo and Seunghoon hyung.

We decided to go for a simple restaurant this time, if you don’t mind but their food is excellent so you won’t be disappointed.

Also…please…you don’t have to buy gifts ^-^ I BEG YOU!!!!

Have a nice day~]

Taehyun chuckled reading Seungyoon’s message loudly in Seungyoon’s voice of course. He rubbed his eyes and ruffled his hair before clicking on the reply button.

[To flat :

It’s only an sms but you sound so noisy <<

I didn’t forget! Do I look like someone who has amnesia to you?

I think I’m fine with everything ^o^

And why don’t you want me to bring presents? I already have a great idea for yours :D and I bet you’ll like it]

Taehyun sent the message, a mocking smile on his face, before getting up and sliding his feet into his slippers. He stumbled with heavy steps to the bathroom, removing his pyjamas and entering the shower, letting the warm water envelope his body and wash away the name that was ringing inside his head. It was the time of the year that he feared the most, and that person was the last distraction he needed at the moment. I can’t let go.

Taehyun stepped out of the shower, drying his feet on the little mat beneath and wrapped a thick towel around his waist. He approached the sink and looked at his reflection in the mirror after wiping away the steam covering it. He proceeded to brush his teeth as he pulled his wet hair backwards.

“Yaaa Taehyun why are you walking around half ? Go wear something before you catch a cold!”

“I will hyung! I’m just looking for my Polaroid camera.”  Taehyun beamed with the most laid back voice he could put on.

“What for?” His hyung chuckled. “You’re going to take after-shower photos?”

“Yes” the maknae answered looking through the shelves until he found what he was searching for. “They say people look their best after taking a shower.” He added after taking a photo.

“You’re right. You look very handsome.” His Mino hyung said studying his whole frame startling Taehyun, he felt his whole body warming up despite the cold air around him. “Hurry up, we have to go shopping.” Mino said once again before glancing down at his phone, releasing Taehyun from his stare.

“Oh yeah, you’re right!” Taehyun replied and went to his room.

Taehyun bitterly smiled at his reflection, remembering a morning like that one, with only one year apart. “Today is different!” he said loudly after wiping his mouth with a towel and leaving the bathroom. It didn’t take him too long to dress up and dry his hair. He left his flat without having his breakfast, a habit he had acquired a year ago. Within a few minutes he was already sitting at the back of a bus, gazing at the busy street outside the window. He decided to check his phone messages before arriving at his destination.

[From flat :

I will never get used to your kindness toward your hyungs :>

And no please! I will never forget the awful gift from last year!

-Your hyung that loves you a lot (please listen to me for once!) ]

“From last year”, Taehyun repeated to himself as he glanced back up at at the street. Last year..

“Mino, what do you think of this red scarf for Jinwoo hyung?” Taehyun asked Mino who was busy looking at the snapbacks, before turning toward his direction.

“Oh that’s perfect! I’m sure he’ll love it.” He replied studying the material of the scarf and giving a thumbs up to Taehyun.

“I think I’ll just buy a snapback for Seunghoon hyung though he already has many.” Taehyun said indifferently, joining Mino in his search for snapbacks.

“It would be much easier if you bought him underwear.” Mino chuckled as he tried on a blue one. “What do you think of this?” He glanced at Taehyun, adjusting the cap on his head.

Taehyun didn’t answer and took it off of his head, before replacing it with another one off of a different shelf. “I think the red color suits you more.” He smiled at him, before feeling self conscious and looking around him, avoiding Mino’s gaze, it felt like he was piercing holes into his whole being.

“Well, I trust your taste.” Mino said nonchalantly, removing the snapback and keeping it in his hand.

“Yeah..” Taehyun replied in such a low tone that his voice came as a whisper.

“Oh Mino you have to look at this!” He laughed awkwardly, looking around searching for his hyung, with a pink beanie in hand.

“What the..” Mino broke into laugher, clenching onto his stomach and using one of the shelves for support.

“I’m going to gift this to Seungyoon.” Taehyun confidently said, lifting the beanie in the air so Mino could take a better look at it.

“You’re going to gift him with a beanie? Though the eyes and the blush are cute, it’s still a !” Mino added, clenching harder onto his stomach.

“Of course! I bet that flat will like it!” Taehyun beamed at Mino, showing his infamous bunny teeth.

“I wouldn’t bet on that.” Mino chuckled, standing up and slowly recovering from his laughing. “But then again, it’s from you. I would probably like it if I was the receiver.” Mino said calmly making Taehyun blush for the second time that day.

“I…”

“What’s the serious face for, Taehyun-ah? Let’s hurry up!” The older giggled, laying his arm around Taehyun’s shoulder. “I think we’re almost done with the gifts. I’m going to another area of the mall to get something. Let’s meet at the exit later on.” He added, going in the opposite direction.

Taehyun knew that he was going to look for his gift. Mino was so bad at being subtle. But that gave him a chance to look for Mino’s gift. However, Taehyun already knew what he was going to buy. He came to the mall searching for what the other boy would like. He wanted it to be special.

It was at the luxurious area. He had caught his eyes on a leather covered notebook. The saleswoman had asked him if he wanted a silver pen with it but he asked for a pencil instead. Mino preferred using pencils. It was easier to erase what he regretted writing. Was he going to be erased as well?

“Sir, which package will you choose?” a pretty saleswoman in her twenties asked with a wide smile, intensely eyeing Taehyun, probably hoping to please him though that would never work with him.

“The blue one, thanks.” The boy answered with a simple smile, and waited for her to wrap the three gifts he had just bought for his friends.

“It may take a little while, so you can sit there if you want.” The woman spoke again, pointing at a chair close to the counter.

“Oh thanks but I think I’ll walk around and come back.” Taehyun just said, before leaving the area and going around the mall. His feet unconsciously lead him to the same place he visited alone a year ago; the luxurious area. He walked along through the aisles, passing the displayed car key-chains, and he stopped as a Lamborghini one caught his attention, that car happened to be both his and Mino's favourite. He smiled, a bitter smile, then continued his way, passing the notebook shelves, a familiar feeling filling his heart.

He was now looking at the jewels for men, amazed by how delicate they looked, mesmerized by the reflection of the Christmas lights glistening off of them.

“May I help you sir?” The saleswoman behind the counter asked him, giving him the same smile as the previous one did. Taehyun wondered if they were all taught to smile like that to the customers, or if they were just trying to seduce him. Neither of the reasons mattered to him.

“I was just taking a look.” Taehyun answered with the same smile, speeding up the woman’s heartbeats.

“Take…take your time.” She just said shyly, retreating and going to the opposite corner.

Taehyun felt pleased, being able to look around freely. As much as he liked earrings, he was more attracted by the bracelets there. They were curved but they weren’t a bit simple. A silver one caught his attention. He couldn’t help but think of the tanned skin that would go perfectly with it. He called out the saleswoman and asked her if he could take a better look at it. The woman instantly gave him the bracelet and watched him as he studied the jewel, putting it around his wrist to make sure it was the right length.

“I will take this bracelet.” Taehyun confidently spat, without even looking at the price.

“Oh, do you want special characters on the inner part?” The woman asked him and Taehyun agreed telling her the exact words he wanted there.  He also asked her to put it in a red box. Mino would definitely be pleased with such a present. Taehyun imagined his picture perfect, wide smile as he would open the box with a ridiculously loud “woah”. He smiled at that thought, knowing that deep inside, that wouldn’t happen since he wasn’t going to meet him. But he wanted to allow himself to dream about it, just a little bit. That bracelet would look amazing on his wrist.

“Here, sir!” The saleswoman gave the wrapped box in a bag to Taehyun, shyly smiling at him after he paid her. Taehyun returned the smile and his tracks, going back to where he came from. He took the bags that were awaiting him and paid the woman before leaving the mall, the smell of freshly brewed coffee welcoming him. It was that famous coffee shop down the street he knew all too well.

“So what did you buy me?” Mino asked lively as Taehyun took a sip from his macchiato coffee.

“You’ll know when you’ll open it.” The maknae answered indifferently, biting into his croissant.

“You’re so cruel towards your hyung!” Mino pouted, crossing his arms and laying his back on the chair, before eating a big mouthful of his waffle.

“Will you tell me what you bought me then?” Taehyun smirked, looking at Mino who was madly munching his food, the side of his mouth slightly dirtied with chocolate.

“Of course not! It wouldn’t be a present then!” He snapped loudly, after swallowing the mouthful he had taken.

“Who’s the cruel one now?” Taehyun chuckled, before leaning forward and wiping the chocolate from Mino’s mouth with his napkin. “You’re so clumsy.” He said with that childish laugh that only Mino was allowed to hear.

Mino profoundly stared at Taehyun, questioning his gesture, knowing him to be very shy.

“Taehyun, are you getting along with everyone now?” He asked, suddenly changing the bright mood, alarming Taehyun.

“What do you mean?” He laughed awkwardly, in a bad attempt to avoid the question he knew was leading to a topic he hated too much.

“You know what I mean Taehyun!” Mino locked eyes with the younger who felt as if he was being scolded.

“I don’t have to get along with everyone.” He answered, looking down at his hands.

“But you have to! Everyone isn’t as bad as the people you met in the past. Just give them a chance!” Mino said, his tone getting higher after every sentence.

“I don’t have to because I have you and that’s enough.” Taehyun replied, still looking down at his lap. A sudden silence filled their corner. Taehyun knew he shouldn’t have given him that answer but he couldn’t hide all his feelings and those words left his mouth unwillingly. However, his hands began trembling, as the silence turned out longer than he expected it to.

“But I won’t always be here Taehyun.” Mino’s voice came out soft and comforting, though it made Taehyun feel everything but comfort.

Taehyun took a sip of his tea, then put the cup back on its plate and continued writing messages on every Christmas card from the ones he bought along with the presents. They were all for the members. He his lips, feeling mischievous as he wrote Seungyoon and Seunghoon’s. He loved teasing them way too much. Jinwoo’s one had only sweet words. He couldn’t help but picture his cute hyung reading it with the most innocent smile he had ever witnessed.  He put each card in its designated bag after he was done, and left his seat to go refill his cup with tea. Since it was the holidays, he didn’t have much to do that afternoon and decided to have a drama marathon. Jinwoo told him about this recent drama; Pinocchio, saying that the plot was interesting. Taehyun didn’t really trust Jinwoo’s “interesting”, knowing they both had a different notion of that word. But he decided to give it a chance. He had nothing else to do anyways, and what was better than some drama to plunge him into a deep sleep?

Taehyun placed his cup of tea next to him, along with his iPad, and turned the TV on, picking the drama and going for a long round of episodes. The main lead seemed very boring to him but it was like that in every drama, he thought. No wonder he rarely watched dramas with the boys when they used to live together. He laughed, remembering how he had been overly jealous whenever Mino and Jinwoo would watch their drama together, sitting with hardly any distance between them. But then again, he couldn’t change that. Those dramas were pure torture for him and he had always wished their TV sessions would have an ending one day. He never thought he would be regretting that wish now.

Taehyun was already deeply sleeping when the forth episode came to an end. He only woke up at 10pm, feeling suddenly insomniac. He turned off the TV and went to the kitchen to eat anything, his stomach grumbling from hunger. It didn’t take him long to prepare simple toasts with ham and to go to his desk, where he his laptop. It was something he would do whenever he was unable to sleep. He waited a while and then opened his instrumental program and checked the last few tracks he made. He turned around looking for his headphones, smiling as he found them and put them on his ears. “We have been together for almost a year, you and me.” He spoke out loud.

“Wow.” Taehyun exclaimed as he unwrapped his box and found a pair of Marshall headphones. He'd always wanted them, but their price was beyond expensive compared to his usual spending. He actually thought about buying a pair for himself this year, but chose not to since he wanted to spend his savings on buying presents for his friends, especially since it was probably their last meeting as five. “Mino you shouldn’t have..”

“Oh please! I knew you wanted them. Plus, they will help you compose in a better atmosphere. Just wear them already so I can take a picture of you.” Mino spat, taking his Polaroid camera in hand.

“Just when I thought you wouldn’t embarrass me.” Taehyun sighed and put the headphones on, making sure to look as much pissed as he could, though he failed in the process, a shy smile curving upon his lips accompanied with his not so infamous blushing.

“Oh my god, Taehyun you’re so red! Do you have a fever?” Mino asked after taking the photo, leaning down to check Taehyun’s forehead. The latter slapped his hand annoyed, gaining laughers from the members around them. “Just open your gifts already! I opened all of my presents!” Taehyun pouted, and laid back on his seat.

“But it’s my turn to sing after Seungyoon!” Mino spat childishly, pointing at the boy who was singing his heart out with a trot song.

“Oh please spare us!” Seunghoon snapped, before taking a sip from his cocktail.

“What are you talking about? I’m the best singer in my town! They say that my voice makes all the girls faint when they listen to it!” Mino said proudly, putting a foot on the table, gaining another slap from Taehyun making him wince in pain.

“More like they all die because it breaks their eardrums.” Seungyoon laughed, putting the mic down and sitting next to Jinwoo who was clapping at him after he had finished the song.

“You’re all so cruel!” Mino pouted, crossing his arms and sending glares to everyone.

“What a child!” Taehyun chuckled, putting his arm around Mino’s shoulders. “Here open your presents kiddo!” He added, putting all his presents in front of him.

The boxes that were tightly wrapped in shining papers, appealed to him and made him forget the members’ bullying. He leaned forward and opened all of them, one by one, thanking the members, until it was Taehyun’s present turn.

Mino lost his ability to speak as he unwrapped the gift, gaping at its content. He held the notebook, tracing his fingers along the luxurious leather, his mouth still opened in shock.

“I already regret asking you to open your gifts.” Taehyun said, suddenly feeling worried from Mino’s reaction, though he was sure the boy would like it.

“No! I mean this gift… I didn’t expect to receive something like this. This is what businessmen usually own.” Mino replied, looking amazed at the object in his hand.

“And artists as well.” Taehyun confidently said, a warm smile directed at Mino who glanced at him with watery eyes.

“Thank you Taehyun ah.” Mino’s voice was so soft and sincere, Taehyun could feel his heart beating faster.

“I wish you thanked me as sincerely as that. Dongsengs these days.” Seunghoon spat, giving the boy judging stares.

“Yaaaa what do you mean!” Mino snapped back, feeling more offended that Seunghoon interrupted his melodramatic moment than from what he actually said.

“Seunghoonie stop teasing our Mino. Let’s raise our glasses for this memorable night.” Jinwoo spoke softly, making all the members awe at his overloading cuteness. They all lifted their glasses and drank them fully.

Taehyun felt his body getting warmer as the alcohol reached his stomach, but not as warm as he felt when Mino whispered in his ear. “Thank you Taehyun.” He had already said the same thing earlier, but for some reasons he chose to repeat it, making sure only Taehyun's ears heard it this time. Taehyun bit his lips, suppressing a smile threatening to appear.

“I never thought I would say this but wow Seungyoon you gained weight!” Taehyun exclaimed amused as he greeted his hyung.

“Cut the crap, you saw me only three weeks ago.” Seungyoon replied annoyed, being overly defensive with Taehyun’s remarks.

“But he’s right Seungyoonie. You look healthier.” Jinwoo beamed at him, wrapping his arm around Seungyoon’s.

“Oh thank you hyung!” Seungyoon returned the smile, pinching his cheek.

“And you saw him only yesterday.” Taehyun rolled his eyes, ruffling his hair in the process.

“Are you stalking me?”  Seungyoon yelled, alarmed, looking almost paranoiac.

“Calm down, who would want to stalk a dumpling like you? Jinwoo just told me what you do every day.”  Taehyun sighed checking his phone. “Where the hell is Seunghoon?”

“What? Jinwoo you tell him everything?” Seungyoon asked Jinwoo, his arm still hanging around his shoulders.

“Yes! We talk every day so I kind of tell him what we do whenever you and I meet.” Jinwoo answered Seungyoon, tightening his hold around Seungyoon’s waist.

“You mean that that dude actually replies to all your messages?” Seungyoon asked once again, his tone getting higher.

“That dude has a name.” Taehyun sarcastically said, tapping his foot against the floor and looking around for Seunghoon’s silhouette. That monkey was going to get it from him if he was going to be late.

“Yes, he always answers me instantly. Why?” Jinwoo replied to Seungyoon, his mouth forming a cute pout. The latter glanced at the maknae about to yell at him when someone spoke before he could.

“Here I come my children!” Seunghoon yelled out loudly, running to them and hugging Taehyun who was displeased with the contact from him. The displeasure increased when the older boy pecked his cheek, gaining a slap on the arm.

“So disgusting!” Taehyun spat wiping his cheek.

“Our maknae is always so loving.” Seunghoon beamed at him, his hair and running away in time to avoid a second slap.

“I thought you would never come and I would die from the cheesiness of this pair here.” The maknae snapped back at him, crossing his arms in anger.

Seunghoon hovered his arms around Jinwoo’s shoulders, hugging him tighter than he should have, gaining death glares from Seungyoon. “Don’t worry. As long as I am here, these two won’t be able to be cheesy.” Seunghoon smirked.

“What do you mean Seunghoonie?” Jinwoo innocently asked, dense as always.

“He just means that he’ll stay away from you.” Seungyoon replied taking Jinwoo away from Seunghoon’s hold.

“Are you sure? I think Jinwoo wants to stay with me longer, he misses me so much. Right Jinwoo hyung?” The boy asked giving puppy eyes to the shorter boy.

“Yes, I missed you.” The hyung simply answered, unaware of Seunghoon’s intentions.

“Jinwoo hyung don’t lis..”  Seungyoon was interrupted by Taehyun who took a hold of Jinwoo’s arm and pushed him forward, freeing him from the two thirsty boys.

“Listen here! I already watched a cheesy drama yesterday! I don’t need a second one that is live! Let’s go already!” Taehyun yelled at Seunghoon and Seungyoon shutting the two of them up completely. He his tracks, put his arm around Jinwoo’s shoulders and led the way towards their destination.

“Oh my, you watched the drama I recommended you Taehyun? Did you like it?” Jinwoo who was dense as always, asked Taehyun after hearing him speaking about it.

“It was fantastic Jinwoo hyung.” Taehyun lied with a smile, hoping that the boy won’t ask him further about it, which was the case, as he was amazed by the Christmas decoration in the street. Taehyun chuckled at Jinwoo’s reaction. Cute Jinwoo will always be easily distracted.

They walked along the lighted path, with Taehyun and Jinwoo leading the way. Unlike last year, they chose to just go to a restaurant instead of a karaoke, and so they went through a different avenue. The decorations that hung along the streets were beyond amazing and the boys couldn’t detach their eyes from them, as if they were kids who were just brought there for the first time. Green, red and gold were the main colors filling the area. There were some Santa and reindeer figurines put here and there, attracting kids who would run to them and pat them, waiting for them to move and react, amusing the people around them with their adorable behavior. All stores, even the simplest ones, looked mystic with the lightened garlands hanging on their windows and doors. Some street food shops would give a free cake or cup of dubbokki to their customers, joining the warm and festive mood.

Taehyun contemplated his surrounding in an admiring way, a wish he wanted to chase away with all his might was entering his mind. What if he was there?

“Taehyun are you okay?” Jinwoo asked, suddenly worried as Taehyun slowed his pace.

“Yes everything is fine Jinwoo.” The boy answered, realizing he had almost shed a tear. He had promised himself to be strong that day. Like every day from that year. The 365th shouldn’t be hard for him. It wouldn’t have been if they didn’t arrive at the restaurant that was located by pure coincidence next to the street he was all too familiar with.

“I still can’t forget Seungyoon’s face when he unwrapped your gift.” Mino laughed loudly as he matched Taehyun’s steps in the middle of the street. “He was horrified with your present!”

“You said you would be happy if I gave you any present!” Taehyun faked a pout.

“I said that I would be happy, not Seungyoon.” He continued, clenching into his stomach. “You’re really something Taehyun.” He looked at Taehyun, and ruffled his hair. “Please never change.”

Taehyun swallowed hard, every word from Mino being more precious than the previous as the time was going faster that it should’ve. How he wished he could stop it right away.

They slowly walked side by side after leaving the other members, taking the same path since it was the closest to their respective homes. They moved out of their dorm only the day before, just after they came back from shopping, whereas the others moved away before Taehyun and Mino who chose to stay longer. Everyone went to a different place. Seunghoon went to his cousin’s flat, with whom he decided to live and to split the renting. Seungyoon chose to go back to Busan and came back with his mother to Seoul after a few weeks, since the two of them wanted to live there and Seungyoon wanted to further his studies. Jinwoo decided to find a place to rent next to Joy Academy where he was now among the teachers, along with Seunghoon who was teaching dancing there. Taehyun had also rented a flat near his new Art University in which he would enroll a week later. All of them decided to stay in Seoul despite it not being their hometown. All of them beside Mino.

None of the boys questioned his decision the day after the final battle, when he announced that he would leave Seoul after Christmas. He didn’t even tell them where he was going, nor how they could contact him, he wanted to be isolated from his current environment for a while. They all wished they could keep on seeing him, but they felt that they had no right in asking him to stay. Their loss affected him the most and made him question his whole career. He had decided to put an end to it and none of them could convince him otherwise. Mino had come a long way and they had to respect his decision, as much as they were against it.

Taehyun contemplated the street filled with festive people. Some couples were cuddling in corners, using the hung mistletoes as an excuse to kiss one another. Kids were singing the usual Christmas carols, their voices sounding delighting to all the listeners. But Taehyun contemplated something or most likely someone, more than the others.

Mino was amazed at his surroundings, patting the kids passing by and pinching the cheeks of those who would stop and look at him, calling him the tall kid. Mino looked overly happy, smiling from ear to ear and Taehyun couldn’t help but admire him. He didn’t detach his eyes from Mino, not even for a second, grabbing every chance to get a full look of his face and frame, wanting to never forget them and to keep them well in his memories.

“I'm too handsome I know!” Mino exclaimed, snapping Taehyun out of his thoughts.

“What?”

“You have been looking at me for a while now. You want to keep this face intact in your memories right?”

Mino was so dense but how could he read Taehyun’s thoughts so easily? If only he was able to read all of them.

“Yes.” Taehyun softly answered.

“Wow, I expected you to say no, but guess I’m really too handsome.” Mino said amazed.

“Oh shut up!” Taehyun playfully spat at him, hitting him on the chest, earning a whimper of pain out of the older boy.

They continued walking until they reached a huge and imposing decorated pine tree. It had the length of almost the whole street and its height made it impossible for them to see what was at the back. Some people would come, bend down and wish a merry Christmas loudly to whoever they were thinking about.

“You won’t change your decision, right?” Taehyun asked, looking down at his feet.

“No.” Mino sternly answered. “My train will depart tomorrow morning.” He added, a sad smile curving upon his lips. This departure was painful for everyone including Mino.

“I see.” Those weren’t the words Taehyun wanted to say but they seemed like the most logical ones at the time.

“So I guess we split paths here Taehyun-ah?” Mino glanced at Taehyun, holding him by his shoulders.

“Yes.” Taehyun simply replied. The shorter his answers, the safer from his own breakdown he was.

“Taehyun ah, these past months with the members and especially you were precious to me. We struggled together but we also enjoyed ourselves and I have no regrets. I’m really glad I met you. You’re one of the most important people I ever had the chance to know. I want you to know how amazing you are and how I wish you could show it to everyone. You’re beautiful from both the outside and the inside. I hope you can open up to others as much as you opened up to me. I also hope you can find the right way to realize your dreams and to be happy.” Mino said slowly, giving equal importance to every word, as he gave that warm and reassuring smile to Taehyun.

Taehyun wanted to reply to him properly but how? He had told himself that he would confess to him ever since he realized he had feelings for him, but kept delaying the occasion out of fear and now it was too late. He had prepared himself though at home, and trained himself to speak the right words, but now they were unable to come out. They were clear only in his mind and he didn’t forget any of them. He wanted to tell him that he didn’t just like him, but loved him. That the day Mino was left without his dream, he was left with the only person he longed for. That even though he wasn’t that important to Mino, Mino was beyond important to him. That only Mino could make his life seem easier when it was terribly hard for him. That he was able to open to him only because it was only him and no one else. He wanted to grab his arms and yell at him to stay and to start over. He wanted him to stay for him even though deep inside he knew that was selfish of him. Those were just his wishes. Mino probably never felt the same about him. He had done many things for him out of friendship and it was his turn to do something for him and let him leave peacefully as much as that coward choice was going to be regretted for the rest of his life.

“I will never forget the months we spend together Mino. I’m really happy you were part of my life, even for a while. Thank you for all that you’ve done for me. I hope you can finally find a way to be happy as well.” Taehyun replied, feeling a lump in his throat.

Mino tightly hugged him for a while, his hair, as Taehyun’s hands slightly gripped into his back, threatening to grip in harder. They broke the embrace, and smiled at each other before parting ways.

Taehyun’s smile faded away as soon as it appeared, and he his tracks and went in the other opposite direction. He couldn’t believe he had just seen Mino for the last time. He turned around to glance at him, and was greeted with his back that was facing him as Mino was steadily walking along his path. Taehyun bitterly chuckled. What a pathetic, unrequited love, he thought going back home. If only he could turn back time. If only he knew.

“I will take a grilled beef steak and a pasta puttanesca.” Taehyun said when the waiter asked for his order. The latter bower, after finishing taking the orders and took his leave towards the kitchen.

The boys were all sitting comfortably at a corner in the restaurant. Everyone was satisfied with the choice of the place, which led Seungyoon to have an overly proud expression for the next few minutes.

“Can you stop with that ugly face already?” Taehyun snapped at him, giving him a disgusted look.

“What’s your problem with me Taehyun?” The boy asked, annoyed at the never ending bullying from the maknae.

“Your ugliness.” Simply answered Taehyun.

“Wow! What a constructive conversation Taehyun. You amaze me!” Seungyoon clapped his hands together, sarcasm all over his voice.

Seunghoon wrapped his arm around Jinwoo’s shoulders and seductively whispered loud enough for the two others to hear him. “Maybe we should go elsewhere, just you and me, while these two sort out their love quarrel?”

“Yaa what do you think you’re doing with my boyfriend?” Seungyoon yelled at Seunghoon, about to lose his mind with all the picking he was receiving from the two boys.

“Love quarrel? Seungyoon are you cheating on me with Taehyun?” Jinwoo innocently asked, his voice almost breaking.

“No hyung! I would never cheat on you! And especially not with this hysterical witch next to me!” Seungyoon tried to reassure Jinwoo as he pushed Seunghoon away from him.

“Thanks for the compliment.” Taehyun added, studying his manicured nails.

“So you would still cheat on me if it was not a hysterical witch?” Jinwoo asked again, a bit lost.

“Jinwoo hyung!” Taehyun yelped at him, catching his attention. “Seungyoon won’t cheat on you with anyone and especially not with me. Hell no! He isn’t even my type. Seunghoon is just feeding you lies because he wants you for himself.”

“Why would he want me for himself?” Jinwoo wondered. Seungyoon and Taehyun sighed in unison. Their hyung was beyond dense.

“Seunghoon has a crush on you Jinwoo hyung.” Taehyun added, trying to look as composed as he could. Jinwoo was cute, but he made him lose his patience at times.

Jinwoo looked as if Taehyun had just given him some breaking news. He turned around to look at Seunghoon with a questioning face mixed with a betrayed one.

“I don’t know what he’s talking about Jinwoo. I…okay yes I have a crush on you.” Seunghoon answered the unspoken question with defeat, unable to lie at Jinwoo’s face. Plus the hyung would always believe Taehyun more than the others. The maknae had that control over him and no one, not even Seungyoon, had that power over him.

“Okay now that we’re settled with truth and dare, we can have a peaceful night without me having to handle with the love arrows sent here and there between you three.” Taehyun indifferently spoke, looking down at his phone.

“I feel betrayed Seunghoonie.” Jinwoo pouted, glaring at the taller boy, though his glare was not a bit scary but rather adorable.

“Yes Seunghoonie hyung is a betrayer. But you have me your sweet boyfriend.” Seungyoon said, hugging his waist.

“No!” Jinwoo spat at him. “You knew about it and you didn’t even tell me!” Jinwoo pushed Seungyoon and stood up to go to other side of the table, sitting next to Taehyun. “I’m going to stay next Taehyunie. Only he is trustworthy!” The hyung said with determination, startling his two suitors, as he put Taehyun’s arm around his shoulders who silently complied with him, still looking at his phone.

“I’m supposed to be the sad one here yet that little boy is being a drama queen.” Seunghoon sighed as he laid his back on the chair.

“I hope you’re happy now Taehyun!” Seungyoon spat at the maknae, even though he had only said the truth, but it was always easier to put the blame on him.

“I’m beyond happy, you have no idea.” Taehyun replied indifferently, scrolling through his phone.

The wait for the plates to come went calmly with Seunghoon and Seungyoon glaring holes in Taehyun, who was cuddling Jinwoo and taking selcas from time to time with him.

“Maybe we should put the gifts on the table until the waiter comes back with our dinner.” Seunghoon spat annoyed and bored.

“Good idea.” Seungyoon joined him hoping to annoy Taehyun who didn’t seem a bit affected.

“That seems like a good idea!” Jinwoo clasped his hands together making Taehyun pinch his cheeks out of amazement, which wasn’t decreasing the glares from the others.

Taehyun started putting the gifts one by one on the other side of the table, making sure to only show the three, the forth being hidden inside his bag. He was scared that the others would find him ridiculous but what happen next was beyond his expectations.

Each member, had brought a forth present that was probably for none other than Mino. They didn’t plan this though. He knew it from their surprised faces. It was as if they had all thought about buying a gift for the absent person without consulting each other. None of them forgot about Mino. They all had him in mind when they brought their gifts. Maybe they all pictured his smile when he’d open his gift just as he did. Maybe they were also picturing him right now at that empty seat, being as amazed as them at the number of gifts. The thought of an overwhelmed Mino unwrapping his gifts there crossed Taehyun’s mind.

Taehyun felt water drops falling onto his hands which were gripping onto the table. It was his own tears falling endlessly as he soon started sobbing, every sob being louder than the previous one. He promised himself he would stay composed during these 365 days but this 365th day was the only exception. He couldn’t take it anymore.

He missed Mino so badly. He hated the fact that he couldn’t see him. He regretted never confessing his feelings, not yelling at him to stay by his side as much as it was selfish. He didn’t care anymore. He was unable to spend a 366th day without him, without knowing about his whereabouts, without feeling his presence. He loved him more than he could ever love anyone. He couldn't take this anymore.

Jinwoo hugged Taehyun, cupping his face, wiping his overflowing tears, as Seungyoon his hair and Seunghoon came along and rubbed his back. It went on for around ten minutes, with the three of them enveloping their precious maknae and protecting him from the questioning stares at the restaurant.

Taehyun finally found the strength to stop and to lift his head, meeting reassuring smiles, their owners chose not to ask him anything about the reasons for his tears. Truth was that they already knew about them, even Jinwoo.

“Do you want me to accompany you to wash your face at the restroom Taehyunie?” The hyung asked him, his cheek.

Taehyun swallowed the last sob that was threatening to come out and answered with a weak smile. “No, you don’t have to. I’ll just go out and take some fresh air if you don’t mind guys.”

“Take your time.” Seungyoon softly told him, giving him his coat as Seunghoon helped him wear it and rubbed his back before whispering into his ear “Be careful Taehyun.”

Taehyun left the restaurant without giving it a second glance. He walked without thinking, trying to empty his mind. The cold wind slapped his wet cheeks, making him regret not taking a scarf with him.

Christmas carols welcomed him in the street as he walked, looking down at his feet. He hated himself right then. Why couldn’t he get over Mino? The boy was able to forget about him easily, why couldn’t he?

Probably because it was an unrequited love. He bitterly laughed. He didn’t know what was more pathetic, him never confessing his feelings to Mino in time, or knowing that they would never be returned. Probably both.

He fell in love with someone just because he treated him different to others who were unable to even approach him. He was the boy with too many rumors. The scary one nobody wanted to get close to. The awkward one nobody could stand. Yet Mino treated him just like he would treat anyone, maybe even better. Mino knew how hard it was to approach Taehyun, but he didn't give up, he just chose to be more careful with him. He would at times but still take care of him as if he was a glass shoe. He knew he was as fragile as he was strong. Taehyun loved him for that. He loved him because he was Mino.

The young boy glanced up from his feet, finding himself in front of the Christmas tree similar to the one he had seen a year ago. He looked at his surroundings, realizing he was at the exact same street. His feet unconsciously led him there. He smiled, seeing that nothing had changed. Children were still singing carols, pleasing their listeners. Couples were still looking for any mistletoe to kiss each other under. The decorated tree was always as imposing and beautiful. Everything was the same, everything besides the fact that this time, he was alone. But deep down inside he didn’t feel as alone as he did during the past 364 days. Maybe Mino was also thinking about this Christmas, remembering this very moment had shared together. Taehyun smiled to himself, before bending down and clasping his hands together.

“Merry Christmas Mino!” He said loudly, picturing Mino doing the same wherever he was.

“Merry Christmas Taehyun ah!” A familiar deep voice said behind him, startling Taehyun. Did the boy just hear right? Maybe this was just a hallucination? He turned around to make sure he had heard right, and he was greeted by none other than Mino, who was standing there in a warm blue coat and a red scarf, a heavy bag in hand. The latter smiled at him, showing those perfect teeth Taehyun always liked to see. The maknae couldn’t believe his own sight though, wondering if this wasn’t some winter mirage since he had been staying in the cold for too long.

“Are you going to keep on staring at me like an idiot? You won’t stand up and up and hug me, maknae? Didn’t you miss your favorite hyung?” Mino spoke again, making Taehyun feel as if his legs were about to melt under the effect of that husky yet warm voice he had missed so much.

Mino seeing that the boy could still not move, stepped forward, closing the distance between them and put the bag on the floor. He then opened his welcoming arms enticing Taehyun, who had decided to move, a hug. The boy didn’t hesitate to throw himself into Mino's embrace, burying his face in his chest and letting all the tears and sobs he had been holding in, out. He didn’t care if people were going to give him strange looks, nor if Mino would find him embarrassing or he would have his coat ruined with his salty tears. All he wanted was to cry his heart out, while being embraced by the person that had possessed his thoughts this whole time.

Mino gently patted his back as he his hair with the other hand. “Shushhh, I’m here now.” He whispered with a reassuring and comforting voice, letting Taehyun feel as if all the heavy weight had been taken away from his heart. It took a while until Taehyun stepped back, making sure he wasn’t living an illusion and that Mino was really there in front of him, smiling at him the way he always did.

The older boy cupped his face, wiping the tears flowing on his cheeks. “Nam Taehyun you’re supposed to look pretty when you cry, but damn you look so ugly right now.” He chuckled at him, making the smaller boy furrow his eyebrows and hit him hardly on his chest.

“Ouch, I’m just joking!” Mino winced as Taehyun sent death glares through his soul. “I forgot how strong you were. Thank you for reminding me.”

“And you should never forget bastard! Where have you been? Why didn’t you contact me? Why..”

“Calm down! I will answer everything when we’ll be back at the restaurant!” Mino replied, Taehyun’s cheek.

“Restaurant? How did you know..”

“Seungyoon told me when I messaged him. He told me you were meeting all together at a restaurant.”

Taehyun furrowed his eyebrows more intensely, feeling his blood boiling inside him, as he clenched his fists. “That flat is going to pay for not telling me!”

“Don’t be mad, he didn’t know I was planning to come until a few minutes ago when I messaged him for the address. I wanted to make a surprise appearance but you decided to be all emotional”

“And whose fault is that? Bastard!” Taehyun glared at Mino, his eyes still swollen from the all the crying he had done that night. Mino just smiled at him and held him tightly, as they made their way to the restaurant.

Mino made his melodramatic appearance as he had wished, with Taehyun rolling his eyes at him. All the members had to hold in their tears, as they showered their precious son who had just returned with hugs and kisses. He took his order and sat next to Taehyun, who tightly held onto his hand under the table throughout the whole dinner, not letting go even when they had to eat, making the boy eat with only one hand. He escaped him once, he won’t escape him twice. Mino was amused at the possessive boy and his cheek in a reassuring way, which worked perfectly on him, though he didn’t let go of his hand.

Everyone bombarded him with questions, asking him where he had been. Mino just told them he had been traveling from town to town, learning words from different dialects, as he never stopped writing lyrics. He also told them how much he regretted not keeping in contact with them. He missed all of them but he knew he had to empty his mind and to stay away from Seoul, for as long as he could. Everyone seemed understanding, everyone beside Taehyun who was still mad at Mino.

“I’m sorry. I will never ever leave you again.” He whispered in his ear, making the boy’s face and ears turn into a tomato. He then pecked his cheek, as if he couldn’t make it any worse. Taehyun just look to the other side, avoiding Mino’s stare.

“Yaaa! Why didn’t you hit him like you always hit me whenever I kiss you?” Seunghoon spat at Taehyun who glared at him, and was about to open his mouth when Mino spoke first.

“Kiss? Do you kiss Taehyun often? Maybe I should define boundaries here!” Mino stared at Seunghoon, who was slightly amused.

“Why? Are you his boyfriend?” He chuckled, laying back on his seat.

“Yes, if he wants me to be.”  Mino looked at Taehyun waiting for an answer, as they all went silent at Mino’s sudden confession. “Taehyun I love you. Will you go out with me?”

“Oh my god, this is so romantic.” Jinwoo clapped his hands together, glaring at Taehyun, waiting for his answer just as the others were.

“I..mmm” Taehyun looked seriously at Mino. “You tortured me for a year! It’s only right if you’re tortured for the same amount of time!”

“Oh please! You have been holding his hand ever since you both came here. He’s already your boyfriend Mino!” Seungyoon snapped, taking a mouthful from his plate, before getting a kick on his leg from under the table.

“You didn’t see this one coming!” Taehyun yelped at him.

“You’re so cute when you’re mad.” Mino chuckled, as he pinched his cheek.

“Let’s see if you’ll still say the same during the upcoming months because I won’t stop being mad at you any time soon!” Taehyun spat taking a sip from his glass.

“I always find you cute.” Mino said before leaning down and naughtily whispering in his ear. “If not y.”

Taehyun stopped himself from spitting his drink out, and just drank the whole glass, refreshing himself, as he could feel his whole body warming up.

The dinner continued with the other boys telling Mino what they have been doing and accomplishing during that year.

“So now that you’re back, what are your plans?” Seunghoon asked Mino after they told him about their lives.

“Well debut as a group with the four of you, what else?” Mino answered nonchalantly.

“Wait, you’re still planning on having a singer career? And with us?” Taehyun snapped at him startled at his decision.

“Of course! I can’t see any other alternative. We’ve already lost once. There is no way we can lose a second time, no matter how much rejection we may face. I’m ready to send our demos to every label out there, with your permissions of course. Is anyone against it?” Mino asked all the boys who looked at each other before giving the answer Mino was anticipating. They had nothing else to lose. They always wanted to debut and now that their last member was there, they didn’t have a single opposing reason.

They all raised their glasses to the new start they had settled for themselves. Taehyun smiled for the first time since Mino was there, letting his mad expression fade away. Soon it was time to open the presents and everyone was delighted by the gifts they had received, including Seungyoon who was relieved that Taehyun's present was just a simple sweater.

Mino though, looked more amazed than he had been the year before. He studied the bracelet, amazed at its delicateness before reading the engraving on its inner side “From now on and forever”. He felt overwhelmed and bit his lips, before leaning down and pecking Taehyun’s cheek. “From now on and forever, I will be by your side.” He whispered so only he could hear it. The latter smiled as he looked at the bracelet around Mino’s wrist.

Everyone parted later on, and Taehyun and Mino took the usual way.

“So where are you going now?” Taehyun asked, looking at his surroundings.

“To your place, where else? We should celebrate together!” Mino beamed like an idiot before getting hit by Taehyun.

“Yaa! We didn’t even have our first date! That thing only happens after the third date!” He yelled at him, his hand still tightly holding into his.

“Then we can have our first, second and third date now. What do you think?” Mino wiggled his eyebrows gaining a disgusted look from Taehyun.

“What a ert!” Taehyun looked elsewhere, a taint of blush filling his cheeks though.

“But you like my ert side.” Mino whispered into his ear before suddenly stopping. “Oh we’re under a mistletoe! We have to kiss!” Mino exclaimed, before closing his eyes and leaning his pouty lips forward.

Taehyun chuckled amused at who was now his boyfriend and leaned forward, closing the distance between them and tenderly pecking his plum lips. Mino smiled, pleased and was about to step backwards, when Taehyun slipped his hand onto his nape, deepening their kiss. “You’re as much of a ert as me!” Mino whispered into the kiss. “Shut up!” Taehyun just replied, biting his lower lip and kissing him passionately.

And special thanks to my lovely Beta who's busy with her studies but still found time to review and edit my story. Love you Soniya <33

I kind of wanted to show something through this fic and that WINNER are deeply united and I believe that even though YG and WIN contributed to that, they built this genuine relationship in their own ^-^

Merry belated Christmas to those who celebrate it and happy holidays ^^
