Reason #1: Byun Baekhyun is alone.
Not everyone around Baekhyun had meant to leave him, not really. 
His mom and dad hadn't really stuck around long enough to give him a name (Baekhyun wonders exactly how desperate they were when they climbed out the window of the hospital), and so, parent-less and identity-less, Byun Baekhyun had been moved to the orphanage. 
The orphanage was fine, really. As per normal, there were the bullies, the bystanders, and the victims. Baekhyun was in none of those categories. The lack of parental care had lead to a strange liking to people who were bigger and more capable than him, which was perfect, because the aunties and all the other workers at the orphanage had loved doting upon cute little Baekhyunnie with the squishy cheeks and the smiley eyes. This meant he was under their supervision twenty four seven with the exception of several intermissions, so the other kids never really got to know Byun Baekhyun and what he entailed.
And so, by the time Baekhyun was six and ready to step out of his shell and perhaps, make some new friends, everyone had been snatched away. During school, there were students playing in groups together, by the sandbox or by the swings. Baekhyun had wanted to join so badly, but they didn't want to play with the er-upper, so he sat next to the bookshelf the whole time, reading and reading until he had fully immersed himself into a world of fantasy, his new sanctuary.
Baekhyun stumbled through primary school with amazing grades and achievements but no friends. He was still at the orphanage, though most of the children who had stayed there during the same time as he had already gone, adopted by other families. The aunties and the workers had long gotten tired of the skinnier, bony, no-longer-cute Byun Baekhyun, and so all they left with Baekhyun was his name. Taking care of the younger ones was no hassle, but sometimes, Baekhyun would stare out of his bedroom window and into the stars and wonder: when would there ever be someone there for him?
His of luck came when he was finally, finally adopted. Baekhyun's new step-brother Kyungsoo, unlike all those stories about Cinderella, seemed to be fine, happy in the company of miserable, lonely little Byun Baekhyun - hanging out with him in school, doing homework together. 
As Baekhyun takes a super big sip of Kyungsoo's iced chocolate and receives a slap for it (hey, he offered!), he thinks: maybe not so much now.

i just wanted to write some fluff and stuff. not really sorry about that one, but yeah. (hopefully i can actually finish something this time round.)
