On a good day, you'd most likely be able to set foot on a bullet train and speed your way past this and that greenland, or snowy (depending on the winter weather), surroundings, and make your way to your parent's doorstep within 3 hours. A smile on your face with enthusiastice wave to call attention. Bags set next to your feet when sneakers could bounce along the entrance when you waited. Be it snow or green, the ground wouldn't be left without a bruised reminder that you had been excited to come by. Some good news or affection to spill out to your parents when hugs were given and smiles shared. 

   Call it a "b a d" day and you were within a 4 hour ride and drive and walk to their house. Include in there you staring at the garden out front, wondering if it was too late to hide in a cheap motel for a few nights before the dog yapping to your arrival would finalize your decisions to stay. A bad day, moreso, would most likely have your bags and a good four pieces of chocolate pocky stuffed into your mouth before your mother would chastize bad manners and how tired ​you looked. So you weren't exactly planned for this or that; a few bags, a sweater if depending on the weather. Your mother would take in the one earbud hanging out your ear when a pout would set to expression, eyes set downcast when even your father would come along in worry.
