They were given a chance to be part of the TV show "Channel M’s The Romantic"

The show aims to captivate, impress and move the men and women of today, specifically targeting those in their 20s and 30s. The Romantic takes 8 regular adults to Santorini, Greece to find (hopefully) the love of their lives. Just as each individual’s life is like a movie, the show aims to impress viewers like a romance movie.

In The Romantic a unique format is seen through a ‘Preference Shuffle’. Contestants will be able to go on dates with individuals that match one’s preference.

In the first episode, the eight participants will meet each other for the first time. Just like a scene from the movie, participants will be able to select how they will appear before their date via an airplane, at a place, a bench, a taxi, cable car, etc. The date will be made according to one’s preference as well.

Through each other’s preference, the participants will seek to find their destined love.

According to the production staff, “We wanted to highlight the real emotions of the participants by bringing out their deep and hidden thoughts and feelings on love through the camera. Therefore we don’t have a VJ (cameraman) who follows after the members and instead they are given cameras to record their own thoughts and feelings honestly. Nothing is dramatized to convey the real emotions."

The participants themselves said they experienced a sweet romance during the show’s filming, adding to the show’s hype. 

Director Lee said, “During the show’s nine-nights-and-ten-day recording we were half excited and half concerned whether participants would actually be able to fall in love. However in the end, a real couple actually was born and the plane ride back to Korea was full of an indescribable anticipation for them to the point it felt even with the staff.” 

The Romantic is raising the anticipation of who will fall in love and become a couple.

“When I saw you on that cold day, I smiled unconsciously. When I heard your voice, I fainted unknowingly. When I held your hand, I died endlessly. You were the first girl I talked to since this TV show began. I thought I was really in love and will only love one person . . .” Donghae said

“When I fall in love with someone it doesn’t die down easily even if I already confessed with that someone, and know he doesn’t love me back, I thought I should still show him what I feel” - Im Yoona
