Sena was whisked away into one of the guest bedrooms where the maid handed her a dress that had magically appeared. She awkwardly changed into the dress and neatly folded her uniform and placed it on the bed for her to change into later. While checking herself out in the mirror, Sena couldn’t help but feel a little awkward. It was a simple black A-line dress that had a keyhole back which made her feel a little exposed. Figuring she couldn’t hide in the bedroom anymore, Sena walked out into the hallway and saw Rome standing there with his arms folded across his chest.

“Oh, you look pretty!” Rome said with a smirk on his face.

“You sound surprised.” Sena said with a scowl on her face. Rome just shrugged and cocked out his elbow with Sena naturally wrapped her hand around. The two of them walked towards the dining room where a five course meal was waiting for them. “Where is Seungyoon?” Sena asked, looking around and noticing that the only people she had seen in the last two minutes were only servants.

“He had to talk to his mom-uh, our mom- about something.” When Rome had to correct himself he could help but smile. He had finally found his birth mother; his dreams had come true. Sena just nodded her head and let Rome guide her to the dining room where his mother was waiting for them with a phone pressed to her ear. She smiled when she saw Rome but when she saw Sena holding his arm, her smile became forced and awkward. She wagged her finger, showing that the two could sit down without her. Rome gently pulled out Sena’s chair for her and she sat down with as much grace as she could muster. He was going to take the seat next to her which separated Sena and his mother but as he was going to sit down the doors opened and Seungyoon walked in with a scowl on his face. He had changed out of his uniform and was wearing a plain white button up shirt with black pants.

“Move.” Seungyoon said to Rome. The two stood glaring at each other for a minute before Rome finally moved to the other side of the table, directly across from Seungyoon and right next to his mother. Seungyoon sat beside Sena and let out a frustrated sigh.

“I don’t think your mom likes me.” Sena whispered and Seungyoon just let out a brisk scoff.

“Welcome to the club.” Seungyoon looked Sena over and told her that she looked pretty in the dress. Her face flushed and she awkwardly looked away, fiddling with the silverware that she had no idea how to use.  Rome saw the two of them and hated how they smiled so comfortably with each other. He had complimented her earlier and it was if the words meant nothing to Sena.

Their mother finished her phone call and took her seat at the head of the table. As soon as she sat down on her chair food started to be brought out of the kitchen and placed before them. To Seungyoon and his mother this was nothing special and they just went about talking but Rome and Sena’s eyes almost bugged out of their head.

“I thought Rome and Sena were going to sit beside each other.” His mother noted as she took a sip of water from a gorgeous glass that had flowers carved into it. “They are such close friends after all…” As she said this Sena could feel her intense glare burning into the side of her head, making Sena feel very uncomfortable and unwanted.

“Well, since I’m her boyfriend, I figured that I should sit beside her.” Seungyoon confidentially said, taking a bite of his food. His mother just hummed in response, her eyes never leaving Sena.

“So, Sena, What do your parents do for a living? Maybe I know them.” She started to slowly cut into her food as if she was imagining that it was Sena she was cutting into.

“I doubt it ma’am, they live in Mokpo.” Sena nervously ate some of the vegetables that were sitting on her plate. She didn’t know if she could stomach anything since her whole body was tensing up with the rapid questions she was being asked.

“What do they do in Mokpo?” The way she said the cities name made it seem as if she was looking down upon it, which wouldn’t be a surprise due to the way she was treating Sena.

“My father is a fisherman.” Sena said and the look of horror on Seungyoon’s mothers face was priceless. Rome and Seungyoon could both feel the tension rising at the table.

“Well surely on a fisherman’s income you wouldn’t be able to afford to go to the same school as my Seungyoon.” It wasn’t a question but more of a fact being rudely thrown out into the open.

“Mother.” Seungyoon gave her a little warning about her behaviour but she didn’t even seem to notice.

“How are you able to go to school?” She was still cutting into the food, the fork and knife now slightly scrapping against the plate making an irritating scratching noise.

“I have a scholarship.” Sena reached out a shaking hard to grab the water. When she drank it she realised just how dry was and the ice cold water calmed her.

“ A scholarship? You wouldn’t happen to be the student, who was kicked out for bad behaviour, would you?” She had a large smirk on her face as if she had trapped Sena into some master plan that she had laid out.

“Mother!” Seungyoon warned her again and this time she actually looked in his direction, noting his objection to her questions. Rome was so shocked about what was happening that he was just sitting back and watching as his birth mother belittled his best friend right before his eyes.

“I-It was just a misunderstanding…after everything was cleared up I was able to come back to the school.” Sena’s voice was shaking. She looked over to Seungyoon who looked just as upset as she did.

“Poor, bad connections and she has a bad history…hmm…it’s a surprise you have such wonderful friends around you. Maybe you can learn from them.” His mother wasn’t even trying to be coy anymore and was now just pointing out her flaws.

“MOTHER!” Seungyoon slammed his hand on the table making the glasses shake and the silverware jump. Everyone froze and looked at Seungyoon whose ears were burning bright red and his shoulders were shaking.

“What? It’s true. And if you opened your eyes and looked closely you would realise that she is only after you for your money.” His mother pointed at Seungyoon who jumped to his feet, his fists clenching onto the table cloth. Sena rested her hand on Seungyoon’s upper arm ad she stood up as well. She was surprisingly calm despite everything that had been said about her.

“I’m sorry Mrs. Kang if I do not live up to your expectations. Yes, I do not come from money and I have bad manners, but I am not the kind of person to have a relationship with someone based solely on money. I care for both of your sons very much and wish to only make them as happy as they make me.” Sena’s voice was slightly wavering and Seungyoon knew she was using all of her courage to say this. Rome wanted to comfort her but he didn’t know what to say. Everything that could have been said had always been thrown out into the open. 

“Thank you for inviting me into your house and allowing me to stay this long, but I think it is time for me to leave. Have a nice evening.” Sena bowed her head slightly and left the dining area quickly with Seungyoon right behind her. His mother just continued to eat her meal as if nothing had happened and Rome sat there like a statue. Sena went into the guest room and quickly took off the dress, placing it on the bed and changing into her uniform. With her school bag in her hand, Sena took off to the front door with tears in her eyes and anger boiling in the pit of her stomach.

“Sena! Wait!” Seungyoon came running up to her as she reached the front door. A maid appeared with both of their jackets. He had changed in jeans and a tee shirt, looking much more comfortable than when he had been wearing the dress shirt. “I’m coming with you.” Seungyoon said and Sena didn’t even bother to argue with him. They walked out of the house and headed to a car where a driver was running out to meet them. Rome came out of the front door and ran over to Sena who was stepping into the back of the car.

“Sena, I’ll take you home just…wait for me to get ready…” Rome ran up to the car window that Sena rolled down but she just shook her head.

“Stay with your mother. I’m sorry I ruined your first meeting with her.” Sena weakly said before she rolled up the window. Seungyoon was standing on the other side of the car and saw Rome begging Sena to wait for him.

“I’ll see you later Brother.” Seungyoon spat out like venom, Rome looking at him with the same distain that he had for the other. Seungyoon got into the car which sped away, leaving Rome alone at the large mansion with his birth mother watching the scene unfold from a safe distance.
