Life

Description

One-shot between Kyungsoo and his daughter.

Foreword

His daughter held the tip of his fingers in a fistful, tiny but firm, he could feel her small fingernails pressing his skin gently.
His daughter ran in little steps. Magical little steps dragging him down the path. He tried to not take wider steps as he tagged along, watching his daughter's back go a little further, but never away.
It was amazing how someone so little and so fragile could fascinate him so much.
"Daddy, swing." She pointed at one of the swings in the park with a pleading look in her eyes. "Up, up."
Being a good father, he picked her up and put her in one of the swings. A light giggle escaped as the swing began to move. He bent in front of her; giggled when she giggled and pushed the swing gently when she swung to him.
They shared the same eyes--the same captivating pair of eyes that tried to take as much as they could of the world in one look.
It'a a big world, he thought, and his daughter was so small.
"Stay there," he said. "Daddy wants to take a picture." He pulled out his camera and his daughter followed every move of his lens, mesmerized. "Smile," he said.
His daughter put out her own kind of baby smile and he took a picture.
"Come on now," Kyungsoo said. "Let's go back to Mommy." She put out her arms. He picked her up and wrapped her in his arms, feeling her living warmth and heartbeat.
Every part of her was every part of him.
He buried his face into her small shoulder. "If I could," he whispered, "I swear I'd give you the world and anything beyond it." She didn't understand, but she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Anything," he said to himself.
. . .
His wife was there, sitting on their beige couch after their daughter had been put to bed. She smiled, and he suddenly felt warm.
"How was your day?" she asked.
"I think," he began, pulling her close, "I think I've seen all the beautiful things in the world."
