Description

"A lot had happened while you were gone," Jongin spoke with so much honesty and seriousness in his voice as his face looked almost sympathetic for the girl looking right back at him with the spitting image of a young child. "Nothing is exactly how you left it three years ago...I just want you to know that..before you get too surprised on what you might see."

When she was just sixteen years old, Park Haru had scavenged into the woods behind her new house like being the Alice in her very own Wonderland. But to her surprise, instead of finding a rabbit's hole to drop into, she met her fate with a very, very steep cliff instead.

Down, down, down..

She fell, until her body met with the ground below with a loud thud echoing through the forest.

Thankfully, she didn't die. Well, not entirely.

I suppose the simpler term to use is: coma.

It's been three long years since that day, and the coma continues to claim her body as it lays stablized, hospitalized and motionless in bed. Only few things make her stand between life and death, and that is an oxygen mask and an IV.

Just as her nineteenth birthday comes and goes like a mere thought, her parents were sent on an important business trip overseas. So what do they do? Leave their only daughter alone in the hospital all by herself in a coma? No. They send a family friend whom they trusted to guard their precious girl until their returned.

So as orders from Haru's family, the friend in turn sends their no-good son, Kim Jongin, to tend to the nearly dead girl. Easy job, right? Jongin or Kai, the name he goes by in his gang and on the streets thinks so, even though he hates the job. All day he just acts like a dog, sits and keeps watch, as if someone is out there or something to steal the girl from right under his nose.

But what if, after countless days of playing the role of Sleeping Beauty, and under Jongin's watch, she finally wakes up?

Wakes up to see the world she once knew has changed oh so much.

Foreword

Background History:

Similar to the real world in subtle ways, the world of the story is stripped of many simple pleasures in real life and thrown into the depths of poverty. The reason for this, is that the setting takes place during an alternate universe time of fear and war where gangs and rebellions rule the tattered streets of every city, so that theme plays a significant part in the story.

The story also involves takes on modern day definitions as to what it is to be innocent or tainted. In the story's world, most or should I say all the world's people are tainted due to the world corrupting them over the course of just a couple of years. They have all lost hope for a happy future due to being blind and forgetting on what life used to be before tragedy struck. Innocence is yet to provail as the three years of Haru's missing memories is yet to be pieced together to solve the mystery as to why the world in the story had become like it has while all the while she had stayed asleep. Untouched and preserved in the past.
