The Keeper

Description

Jungkook and Eunah’s relationship is tested by an alien named Taehyung.

Foreword

A gentle smile played on his lips as he approached his usual seat, second to the front by the window. He acknowledged his classmates with friendly nods as usual, and he exchanged playful banters with his friends as usual before taking his seat.

However, Jungkook no longer turned around to greet the girl seated at the window seat of the third row. He didn’t send her a brighter smile than the ones he showed to others, eyes twinkling as though she solely possessed the key to his happiness. None of his ‘you are looking beautiful todays’ or ‘you are especially cute this mornings’, cheesy lines that managed to only sound genuine spoken by him. No ‘hello sunflowers’ or even his simple ‘good mornings.’ His notebook no longer contained torn edges from the notes he would pass to her during class because they were too close to the front of the room to converse aloud. He no longer carried those milk candies she loved in his bag, from when he’d decide to go to the convenience store before school to surprise her with. There weren't any more of those.

No smiles, no letters, no sweets.

Just the bitter coldness between two people who had become strangers after being exceptionally intimate. Just misunderstandings, pain, and too much pride, anger, and jealousy to mend a once beautiful relationship.

Taehyung lay on a thin mat in his shabby studio apartment, hand clutching his aching stomach. He had just arrived from work, and realized he had no money, and so he decided to sleep the hunger away as he would be receiving his next paycheck tomorrow. Because of his habit of buying unnecessary things that caught his eye whenever he strolled around the streets, he constantly forgot to save for food and other necessities and for bills. Several of those were overdue, and Taehyung remembered that he only had an extension on his payments because he managed to charm his landlord.

Taehyung worked as the mascot for a chicken store, where he wore a giant costume and walked around in the scorching heat for several hours a day. He couldn't find any other job because of his lack of credentials and common sense.

Actually, he lacked much sense involving humans.

He hadn't even perceived that it was necessary to find a job in order to obtain money to attain goods and services, at first. He learned the hard way when he ordered chicken from the store he currently worked for and left without paying. The store owner managed to get a hold of him and drag him back to pay, but seeing that he had no money and managed to break a few dishes and puncture the trash bags after being assigned a few tasks, the owner decided to make him an underpaid part-time worker. Of course Taehyung never realized this, much to the delight of the store owner who knew how clueless and gullible he was.

In his world, things were much more simplistic, and in his travels, things came with the snap of a finger because of his powers. He never had experienced things such as hunger, pain, or fatigue. There weren't concepts such as too much or too little, too big or too small, none of the nitpickiness of human tendency. Taehyung learned bit by bit everyday about the hardships that came with being human especially in dealing with other humans and human emotions.
