Another Rose

Another Rose

Another busy day at the café, the milk steamer gurgled loudly, DaHee turned around from the espresso machine to find a bright yellow rose laying on the counter in front of her. She stared for a moment and then sighed.

"Hello Kang Sshi."  She said without even looking around and continued making her latte creating an intricate design with the milk froth.

"Good morning Nuna, isn't it a lovely day?"  A buoyant playful male voice replied, she continued to ignore him placing the mug in front of the customer who looked at the drawing DaHee did in the foam and smiled.

"Oh a rose that is beautiful, thank you."  DaHee smiled and nodded.

"My pleasure, have a wonderful day."  As the woman stepped away DaHee reached for the flower smelling its sweet perfume, she heard giggling looking up she saw her employees talking behind their hands before quickly turning away to look busy.  She groaned internally putting the flower in the cooler to keep it fresh, without even looking around she said.

"Thank You Kang Shi, it is as beautiful as the others but you really have to stop giving me these roses, people are starting to talk."  She finally look around the large coffee machine to find the man standing there sunglasses, baseball hat and hoodie hiding his face, if it wasn't for the broad smile he would have been scary but the smile and the man it was attached to was very familiar to her now.

He was the same man that over the last month had left almost a dozen yellow roses on her counter.  He looked around then slipped his glasses off and smiled broadly at her, his eyes closing to slits but still sparkled, from the outside she remained cool but inside her heart fluttered.

"I will keep giving them to you until you agree to go out with me."  He said quietly but looking at her earnestly, she stared at him admitting to herself that she has been tempted to say yes his persistence was starting to wear her down but the fact he was standing there in disguise and speaking softly reminded her who he was.

Kang DaeSung of BigBang, a famous singer here in Korea and all of Asia with thousands of adoring and slighting crazy fans vying for his attention.

"Nuna will you come and have a coffee with me?"  He begged, she smiled softly at him and nodded.  She might not be willing to date him but she enjoyed his company even if it was just the occasional shared coffee.  If possible his smile became even larger and he clapped in excitement, she snorted and shook her head.

"Go sit in the corner I will bring you your usual."  He nodded vigorously and turned to go.  "Kang Sshi." She called, he turned back in surprise eye wide.  "Did you want some cookies they just came out of the oven."  As expected the smile appeared again.

"Yes please Nuna." He said almost shyly, pleased that she would ask she couldn't stop herself from smiling at his cuteness.

"Go Sit!" She ordered him, he dipped his head in a bow and walked away. It didn't take long to make him is Americano with a little cream and a lot of sugar, she got herself her usual chai tea and a plate of his favorite chocolate chip cookies.  She balanced the plate of cookies on his mug and then carefully walked around the counter and over to the corner booth that gave him the privacy he needed.  As she approached he saw her precarious balance act and jumped to his feet.

"Whoa Nuna let me help."  He said taking the plate and his mug from her.  "Come sit take a break."  He said ushering her to the seat across from him, once she was settled he sat down watching her.  She looked tired, he could tell he'd been watching her ever since he and SeungRi had dropped in a month ago to try out the new cafe in the neighborhood.  From the first moment she had greeted him at the counter and took his first order she occupied every waking moment of his thoughts and quite a few of his sleeping moments too, he thought feeling his skin start to heat at the memory.

She sighed heavily as she settled into the seat, she took a sip of her tea closing her eyes trying to calm her busy brain for just a moment at least.  He could tell she was tired she was here constantly it was a new business and she was determined to make it a success.  She opened her eyes looking right at him a small smile appearing making him draw in a breath, she was beautiful and she regularly took his breath away even when she was being cool with him.

"Nuna, you are working too hard why don't you let me take you somewhere quiet so you can have a break."  She watched him over the lip of her mug on brow slowly going up in amusement.

"Sounds strangely like a date."  He couldn't help but smile.

"What?  Really? Well I suppose it could be a date."  He tried to say innocently, it was so comical that she couldn't help but giggle which delighted him because it meant she was relaxed.

"Kang Shi."  She began, he put his hand up.

"Nuna, please call me DaeSung when we are alone."  She was too tired to argue with him today so she said.

"DaeSung shi."  Making that big smile appear, until she continued.  "I have told you over and over again that I think you are a lovely man."  His smile started to fade hearing the familiar line. "But you're lifestyle is just a little too crazy for me.  My life is crazy enough trying to make this place work."  She said waving her hand in the air.  "I don't need to be hiding in dark corners to spend some time with you, so a shared coffee every now and again is all I can manage."  As much as he didn't like the words he knew it was true but then he smirked.

"Being in a dark corner with me would be so bad?"  He asked a playful glint in his eyes, she knew instantly what he meant and felt herself start to blush, again the brow slowly raised as she contemplated him. The thought had occurred to her on more than one occasion, that's why he was so tempting.

"DaHee."  A voice shouted from the counter, she blinked breaking eye contact with him.

"Time to get back to work. Be right there."  She shouted then looking back at him and smirked.  "Dark corners have their charm DaeSung."  She teased. "But I prefer the warmth of the sun, and a bright smile."  She winked and then stood and walked away leaving him to contemplate what she said.  He chewed on his cookie and then froze suddenly realizing she didn't say she didn't want to see him, she just that she didn't want to hide.  He grinned taking another bite from the cookie, he got to his feet and walked over to the counter.

Dulcie saw him approach immediately noticing that his hood was down and sunglasses off.  He smiled at her waving his cookie at her.

"Nuna thank you for the cookies they are amazing I'll be back."  He said in a loud voice, she stared at him wide eyed then bowed.  He waved again then turned and left, the whole cafe was a buzz everyone going to their cell phones.  She frowned wondering what he was thinking if everyone knew he frequented the place his fans would haunt the shop and he'd never be able to visit again. She felt a sharp pain then dropped the coffee she had over flowed while she was thinking.  Sticking the burnt finger into she was glad she had an excuse for the tears that were sparkling in her eyes.

Days later she unhappily served yet another starry eyed fangirl that started their conversation with. "Have you seen DaeSung-ah?" She sighed sliding another iced coffee to the giggling girls.  There were so many girls she had to make a rule saying they had to buy something and they had a time limit if they wanted to stay.

She began to wipe down the counters as she moved down the line she stopped suddenly seeing the yellow rose sitting on the counter.  She looked up staring in surprise at the man in the knit beanie and sunglasses smiling at her, totally speechless she blinked at him. She looked around in a panic there had to be at least twenty fans in the shop and more outside.  Grabbing the rose hiding it behind her back.

"What are you doing?"  She mouthed at him, he shrugged leaning in close.

"You said you didn't want to hide so here I am."  She gasped as he reached to remove his sunglasses, panicked she waved her hand at him.

"No Sungie don't."  She whispered loudly.  "Come here!!"  She waved him around the counter his mouth opened in an "O" of surprise but then quickly went around the end of the counter.  She grabbed his hand and pulled him with her, he smiled following her through doors to the back storage room and her office.  Once inside the small office she closed the door and turned to him.

"Kang Shi what were you thinking?"  She scolded, he ignored her smiling.

"You called me Sungie, call me that again."  He said.

"What?"  Frowning deeply.

"Call me Sungie from now on I like it."  He said as he slid his sunglasses off, she was about to speak but froze seeing the intense way he was looking at her.  She stared back for a moment but then shook herself.

"Kang DaeSung Shi." She growled. "What are you doing here?  Didn't you see all those fangirls?"  Ignoring the way he continued to watch her.  "When you revealed yourself the last time the place has been crawling with them."

"I know that's why I did it."  She gasped her jaw dropping, and she hit him with her rose the only thing she had available.

"But why?"  She said exasperated. "Now you can't visit anymore, when will I ever get to see you anymore."  He could see she was upset that had never been his intent. He felt guilty until it suddenly dawned on him, she was upset because she couldn't see him anymore.  He stepped closer smiling down at her.

"I guess you'll just have to come out on a date with me then."  Again her jaw dropped  but this time she got angry.

"Is that why you did it?  To trap me? Well you can forget it."  She huffed backing away from him.  "What a stupid thing to do if you're going to be sneaky like that then I want no part of you."  Tears started to form in her eyes again, she hit him with the rose again bending the stem. She blinked at the bent flower and then glared at him waving it.

"Look what you've made me do and now I won't be able to see you anymore."  She started to babble, for a moment he could only stare, he had never seen her loose her cool like this before and it was because she thought he was trapping her.  He stepped up and took her face in his hands searching it, the tears were real the upset and sadness in her eyes were real to as she stared up at him.

"Nuna I'm sorry."  He wiped away the tear that trickled down at her cheek.  "I wasn't trying to trap you, honest." She remained silent only the occasional hiccupped breath.  "I just wanted to let everyone know that since you won't go out with me this is where I like to spend my time. In your coffee shop with you."  She gasped blinking at him and then the corner of quirked up.

"Sungie you are crazy."  It was his turn to gasp and then he smiled.

"Yes I am when it comes to you."  Finally she smiled a shyly, DaeSung leaned forward and lightly kissed her forehead, holding contact for a moment. He heard her exhale and felt her shoulders lower when he pulled back she was still smiling and relaxed. Her broken rose appeared between them.

"I broke my rose."

"I'll bring you another rose when I pick you up tomorrow."  He said, she was quiet contemplating that face that looked at her so earnestly and hopefully, she smiled and nodded, his eyes widen.  "Really?"  Again she nodded then the brightest smile she had ever seen appeared and he pulled her in hugging her tightly.  "Aaigooo Nuna I am so happy." He said in her hair, she smiled resting her head against his shoulder.

"Me too Sungie, me too."  She replied looking forward to tomorrow.
