Woohyun shifts nervously beside his friend, the bright lights of the stage burning his eyes causing him to blink incessantly, when Kibum grabs his hand. Giving is a light squeeze, he leans over to whisper in Woohyun's ear, voice calm and not betraying his own nervousness and anxiety,

"Don't worry so much, Hyun, we're going to win. We've come too far not to." Woohyun turns to look into his friends’ warm eyes and smiles, a little more calm then before.

"I suppose not fidgeting wouldn't kill me, huh?" Receiving a silent laugh in return, the two boys turn and look out amongst the crowd once more, their hands still clasped tightly with one another. As Woohyun looks out he tightens his grip on Kibums hand and reminisces on the first time he had held it, which leads to a broken dam of memories flooding through his head.

Little did he know, Kibum was busy remembering him, too.

The shrill ringing of his cell phone forces Woohyun to open his tired eyes and blink into the darkness that is Infinite’s dorm. Reaching blindly for her phone as Sunggyu rolls restlessly beside him muttering about ‘it’s three in the morning dammit’, Woohyun grabs his phone and answers with a curt hello. The silence at the other end tells him who is on the other line as he stumbles to his feet and attempts to shrug on a long, warm cardigan on his way out of the room. The floor creaks with every step as he crosses the living room and he hopes he hasn’t woken any of his other members, they all had a long and tiring day. Finally making it outside, Woohyun breathes in the cold morning air as he sits on the cement steps in front of the dorm and finally speaks, voice low and groggy, rough with sleep.

“Kibum, what’s wrong?”

And as Kibum talks to him about his world crashing down around him Woohyun pictures him locked in the dorm bathroom alone and about to start crying. As confident and strong as he portrays himself, Kibum is so different from the Key that everyone knows; self-conscious and helpless to the tortures of his own mind. His memories take him back to when they had first become friends and he had received a similar phone call from the other; this one, however, was a blatant cry for help. Kibum had spent the better part of the night looking at himself in the mirror of the bathroom he had locked himself in before he had broken down and begged Woohyun to be there for him. The sight that Woohyun had been met with was not one he was ready to see. A man he thought was stronger than any he had ever met, the stronger half of him, was sitting in a corner of the shower with the water going washing blood away from him as well as hiding his tears. Woohyun had run to him, not caring about the water soaking his brand new clothing, wiping the tears from Kibums eyes and the blood from his thighs before pulling him close. His arms wrapped further around the other’s body than he thought was possible, the body more frail than he could ever have imagined. He allowed a steady stream of love to be whispered into Kibums ear, his own heart heavy as he attempts to raise his friend’s from the depths of sadness.  He leans back a long time later and pushes Kibums hair from his eyes, forcing a smile onto his own face,

“Come on, now, why would you do something like this?” Eyes wide and showing a vast array of emotions, Kibum opens his lips and lets slip his deepest worry,

“Am I enough?” A smile, real this time, spreads over Woohyun’s lips as his hands cup either side of his friend’s face, thumbs brushing along his prominent cheekbones.

“Enough? You are more than enough, you are everything. To me, you are everything; you are beautiful both inside and out and just a little weird which makes you perfect in my books.” He chuckles when Kibum smiles at him before leaning and kissing his friend’s soft cheek, tasting the salt from his earlier tears, “You don’t have to change at all, not for any reason. Don’t you dare I’d be upset if you did. Be proud of yourself because you are somebody to be proud of.”

Warmth spreads through his chest when Kibum laughs a happy laugh cocking his head to the side,

“I knew I chose right when I made you my friend.”

The numbness in his toes brings Woohyun out of his memories and back to the present. He tightens his cardigan around himself while curling his toes to get some warmth back in them, his eyes still not completely open. Kibum finally speaks and what he says causes Woohyun’s head to drop,

“We broke up, Hyun.”  Woohyun rakes a hand through his hair, the cold from the air having hardened it.

“I’m sorry, Kibum, I thought this one was going to last. I really did...How about you get dressed and I pick you up? Sounds like a coffee day today.”  He can hear the watery smile on the other line as Kibum agrees and he knows that things will be okay soon.

When their name is called on the Inkigayo stage, Woohyun can’t believe it. He looks around with a look of utter surprise as Kibum accepts the mic and says his speech, strong once again when Woohyun himself can’t be.  The crowd cheers, their friends on stage cheer and Woohyun can’t help it when his face crumbles and the tears begin to stream down his cheeks. The taste of his salty tears is paired with the smell of Kibum when the other holds him close, laughing at his friend. Confetti falls from above as the two stand on stage together while their song plays in the background, and Kibum lifts Woohyun’s face and wipes his tears away with a gentle smile,

“Stop crying, Hyun, we won! Be happy…” Woohyun chokes on his words and Kibum laughs again, attempting to hide the shining in his own eyes as he kisses Woohyun’s forehead much to the excitement of the audience. The two slowly make their way off stage when Kibum pushes the award into Woohyun’s hand and the other smiles at him when they drop down onto a couch in a room with people bustling about. Kibum leans his head on Woohyun’s shoulder, his fingers busy playing with Woohyun’s free hand.

“All I could think of up there was thanking you…but that wouldn’t have gone over so well now would it?” Woohyun laughs and looks down at his friend fondly,

“I suppose not. But you don’t need to thank me for anything, just being your friend is enough…just being here, us, together.” Kibum looks up and winks playfully,

“Stop that, you’re making me blush.” Both men burst into laughter before settling into each other, lost in their own thoughts, time slowed versus the busy world around them.

The two friends sit on the couch together, thinking not of the win or of the press or even of the fans; all that crosses their minds are each other and the truth to their friendship. The honest, uncomplicated way that they care for each other, the way that there is a pure and unadulterated love between the two. To call the other a friend is the most amazing thing to them, to be able to be so close to this other person, their other half. They would be together forever, indefinitely…and neither seemed to mind.
