Humanity finally did it; they finally hit rock bottom. They ran through war after war after war. They exhausted or destroyed resource masses. The land began to crumble under their very touch. Humanity needed someone to take over.

And so, as so many authors predicted in bygone ages, the mass corporations stepped in. They took the best traits they could find; intelligence, beauty, endurance, obedience. A few traits like individuality were planned to be bred out according to their purpose. These saved bloodlines went in to creating Personas. Only the humans determined enough to get to the safe zones were allowed to live within the new societies. Personas? Though they came from humans, though their DNA was identical in every way that mattered. They were machines, created in laboratories and incapable of independent thought.

But that's the thing; you can't breed humanity out. You can't take human young and raise them like machines. Some bloodlines will always go wrong.

Some people will refuse to accept they can go wrong.
