Foreword

Pitter patter, pitter patter…

Ah it’s raining. I stared at the pouring rain in daze from the inside of the car. Somehow today, the sound of the raindrops couldn’t make me feel calm like how it usually does. Even the serene downpour of rainfall failed to hush the turmoil that was slowly building inside my heart as I neared my destination, where he was hiding for two months.

Pitter patter, pitter patter…

The sound of the rain. I recounted then, it was raining this hard the first time I met him.

Flashback: Three years ago….

Pitter patter pitter patter…

“We saw him lingering around our territory and freely selling drugs…” Byunghee sighed as he brought the umbrella higher on our heads. “… I believe he was the reason why our drug sales are declining these past months.”

“Well from the investigations, I heard he is an insanely good smooth talker.” Mir interjected, holding his own umbrella beside me. “I guess our clients were pleased by the way he talks…”

Byunghee nodded. “Not only that, Joon inspected his drugs and the quality are as good as ours.” He said, amused. I turned to him and glared, I won’t accept his words… no drugs can equal mine. He cleared his throat and asked. “…so what are you gonna do to him?”

I smirked. “Get his drugs then kill him.”

Mir and Byunghee shook their heads. “Just like you boss… just like you.”

We went inside of an old abandoned cemetery which we discovered from our intel is the man’s hide out. And at the center of the cemetery a small house can be seen that are now surrounded by our men. My interrogation unit, led by Joon with Yeseob and Doojun were already inside.

I haven’t seen the man’s face and I wondered what kind of man had guts to defy our terrestrial rules and sell drugs on his own accord. This man is maybe a lunatic.

Knock knock. “Joon open up.” Mir called out and a quick click on the door was heard before it was opened wide. We were welcomed by sacks of drugs and a laboratory. “Woah wow…” Mir trailed off and swiftly roamed around the place.

Joon slightly chuckled. “I know right. This place is something.”

“Yeah…” Byunghee mumbled leaving me by the door and marched towards one sack of drugs. He got a piece of crystal and examined it. I watched his expression turned from curiosity to awe. Byunghee is the type of person that was hard to impress so it peaked my interest and approached him.

“What?” I asked while he was still looking at the crystal on his hand. He did not bother facing me and continued checking the crystal. “ Seungho… the quality of this is really as good as the ones we order overseas… maybe even better.” I raised an eyebrow and decided to pick one. And he was right. The crystal is clear as glass. No wonder our clients jumped out from our wagon to taste some of this.

“It’s not just because of that mouth of his… his product can hit the market high.” Byunghee took a last glance before putting the piece on the sack and I did the same.

I circled back and diverted my eyes to Joon. “Did you get any information from him?” he gave a quirk nod and I kept going. “Where did he get these high quality goods?”

“You won’t believe this but… he made it himself.”

“WHAT?” Mir and Byunghee chorused.

“Is that the truth?” I asked further for clarification. “Are you sure he was not telling lies?”

“Of course.” Joon huffed bobbing his head. “…I’m not your best interrogation officer for nothing.”

“Where is he?”

“He’s down at the basement. Doojun and Yeosob are guarding him.” Joon pointed the door that leads to the basement. I stride towards it and clutched the knob. “Hey boss. What’re you gonna do?” Joon asked.

“Force him to spill the beans how to make something remarkable…” I grinned evilly turning my head to Joon.

“Then what?” Byunghee spoke abruptly.

“…stick to my plan, kill him.” I stated before swiftly shifting the knob open, getting all the attention of the people inside including the said man tied up with a rope hanging on the ceiling.

And immediately, I was captured by those beautiful brown orbs that penetrated my soul without any sign of fear. Even with his state, the menace look on his eyes never faltered. He may be on the losing end now but his eyes tell me that he refused to show defeat. Unknowingly, I was entertained of his demeanor, a prideful bastard. Before I realize it, my plan was already ruined.

“He is just a brat like Mir.” Byunghee commented interrupting the heated stare we send from each other. The boy was smart, he knew from the start that I’m the leader the second I entered the room based on how he scrutinized me. Hmm… a good observer. Mir hissed in annoyance but ignored the remark and went to join Yeosob who’s leaning against a wall on the side corner of the room.

I made my way nearer to the boy and ordered Joon to untie him from the ceiling. His body is already beat and weak, he can’t run even if he wants to. Joon cut the rope harshly that made the boy slumped hard on the floor. He yelped in pain but didn’t let it show to any of us as he lowered his head to hide his pitiful expression.

“Hey you…”I addressed but he didn’t spare a glance and disregard me. “You… pathetic brat. Hey.” This time I’m already impatient and crouched down on his level. I held his chin despotically and forced him to look at me. And again I was trapped by the beautiful eyes of the boy and as I stared at him closely, I now slowly noticed his facial features, a pretty fair faced boy.

/spit!/ He spat on my face.

“Yah! How dare you!—“ I raised my hand to stop Doojun who was about to kick the brat and afterwards I wiped my face clean with the boy’s tattered clothes before…

PAK! … slapping him sharply on the face making him unconscious.

“What now?” I heard Yeosob mumbled beside me before giving me a handkerchief to wipe my still stained face. I smiled a little to him and started rubbing my cheeks with it.

“…still force him to spill and then kill him?” Byunghee interposed.

“No.” I changed my mind; the kid is too intriguing to kill. “Take him to a hospital first.”

End of Flashback:
