abnegation - the selfless
HISTORY: Abnegation was formed by those who blamed selfishness for human nature's errors. They believe in selfless actions and attaining peace through the elimination of selfishness. By doing so, they choose to completely forget themselves and only serve others.
TRAITS: Sit quietly and wait. Bow heads, a sign of respect, when greeting each other. Not manipulative, but not forthright. Their morally incorruptible quality makes them the only reasonable faction to be able to govern the city as political leaders. Called 'Stiffs'.
PHYSICAL TRAITS: Clothing is gray and simple. The only adornment allowed is a watch. Female Abnegation typically wear their hair in a bun/knot.
RELATIONS: On good terms with Amity; unknown relationship with Candor; on neutral terms with Daunless but opposing views on violence; rivals to power-seeking Erudite.
dauntless - the brave
HISTORY: Dauntless was a faction formed by those who blamed cowardice for society's problems. The only answer is to face your fears and find bravery.
TRAITS: Loud, expressive. bravery, courage, fighting and physical skills. In charge of security, their primary purpose is to guard the fence that surrounds the city. They began guarding the fence five years prior. Before that they patrolled the factionless sector.
PHYSICAL TRAITS: All-black clothes, tattoos, piercings, unnatural hair colours.
RELATIONS: On neutral terms with all factions.
erudite - the intelligent
HISTORY: Erudite was formed by those who blamed human ignorance for the faults of society. They formed Erudite as a way of eliminating ignorance and darkness from human minds.
TRAITS: Chat about books and newspapers; in constant pursuit of knowledge. Curiosity, which drives them to seek knowledge. The faction produces most of the city's librarians, doctors, scientists, & teachers. They keep records of the city & the factions. Most technological advances are due to Erudite, including all of the simulation serums.
PHYSICAL TRAITS: Most members wear glasses no matter how perfect their vision is, to give the appearance of intelligence. Each member must wear at least one piece of blue clothing as they believe it a calming colour that helps stimulate the brain.
RELATIONS: On good terms with Amity and Dauntless; on neutral terms with Candor; harbours a fierce grudge against Abnegation who form the government, a power they seek. They believe them to not be as selfless as they claim.
amity - the peaceful
HISTORY: Amity is the faction that dislikes war. They formed Amity in order to have a peaceful society free from conflict and sadness caused by wars and instigation. They are truly a democratic faction, voting on everything, almost unanimously.
TRAITS: They love music, art, games, and laughter. They give hugs when greeting. They vote on everything, almost unanimously. Their bread has peace serum added to prevent their members from fighting. Amity's essential nature comes from its crop-growing. They run the farms, which provides some of the food for all the factions. They tend to be counsellors, caretakers & artists.
PHYSICAL TRAITS: Members dress comfortably in red and yellow clothing. Their dress code is less formal than other factions, as long as it is bright and pleasant.
RELATIONS: On good terms with Abnegation; on very good terms with Erudite who provide them with farming inventions; opposing views on violence to Dauntless but on neutral terms; a slight rivalry with Candor, who believe "those who seek peace will always deceive to keep the waters calm" suggesting Amity can be dishonest.
candor - the honest
HISTORY: Candor was a faction formed by those who blamed duplicity and deception, who believed that dishonesty is the key fault in human nature which began evil and war. They believe in the principle that honesty and openness would lead to a more peaceful and perfect society.
TRAITS: Honest, trustworthy, and able to read body language to detect lies. They greet each other by shaking hands. They provide sound leaders in Law. Are called 'Smart mouths'.
PHYSICAL TRAITS: Black & white clothes, because they see the truth as black & white. They dress formally, with suits & ties being standard uniform with men, & women seen in long skirts, while their everyday clothing is typically black pants & white shirts.
RELATIONS: A slight rivalry with Amity, who they believe would deceive in order to ensure peace; unknown relationship with Abnegation, though its likely they would see them similar to Amity, seeing self-denial as a form of lying (to oneself), on good terms with Dauntless, probably because honesty & bravery can tie together; to Dauntless, on neutral terms with Erudite.
ABOUT:
School Divergence is a Divergent-inspired school-themed 3rd POV AU roleplay on Asianfanfics. Basically, we are, too, divided into 5 factions - there will be no Divergent to avoid wars and overpowering and no Factionless either, but yes, there are transfers ( read this ). The school can be seen as a small society, and everyone lives here for years. It's just a school, so there are still people living outside. Instructors have the most power, the principal shall remain anonymous. Please refer to the sections below for more information.
ROLEPLAY RULES:
/ : the most important thing : respect, especially out of character. you can be rude in character if it's your character's trait, but please respect each other ooc.
that also means ic drama is allowed ( even encouraged ) but no ooc drama.
/ : no double account. it's a 3rd POV roleplay, it's hard for one account to even be active, how can you manage two accounts?
and so you should be active, reply at least 3 wall posts a week. there will be random activity check.
/ : be creative : with your personality, your background, your plots. that doesn't mean you can act totally differently from the faction's trait, so try to build your character's personality based on the faction's personality trait. as for background, it should include why you are in the faction, whether it is the faction you were born in or not.
you can be cousin / sibling / family to another character in the roleplay if the OP agrees.
/ : no biased replies / facechasing. try to reply to everyone, with effort. be descriptive and literate. no one-liners allowed here. no god-modding either. if you don't know what that is, ask google maybe.
, , fights and any other sensitive topic can be posted on walls if both parties agree. no pregnancy for students and no m-preg. murdering / death is obviously not allowed.
/ : relationships of any kind is allowed, although homouality is not encouraged here. since the school rules state that students can't be in a relationship, please try not to get caught ( while roleplaying / plotting of course ). if you are caught, you shall break-up, but you can be a rebel, that's up to you.
inform admin if you are in a relationship ( even for students ) / hiatus / deactivating.

SCHOOL RULES: these are to be followed by everyone
/ : students should respect instructors, staffs and other students, same goes to instructors and staffs. if caught fighting with each other or disrespecting, there will be punishment.
/ : no one is allowed to go out of the school without permission. parents are allowed in on alternate weekends.
/ : students aren't allowed to be in a relationship, studying should be your priority.
/ : students and staffs should be in their respective dorm from 11PM afterward, unless a reason is provided.
/ : only dauntless instructors are allowed to be armed whenever, and/or students & staffs with permission from an instructor.
/ : the only time food is provided for free is at 6.30AM to 7.30AM and 7PM to 8PM everyday. you must buy your own food at other time.
/ : students should go to every classes, wear proper clothes to class, complete homework and tests with your best ability.
/ : staffs shall be devoted to the school's benefit, instructors shall be the ones that students can look up to, and students shall do their best for their own advantage and for our school.
/ : the school rules can be fixed at any time, please do re-read once in a while.
STUDENTS:
Students are divided into 5 factions, however, they all study in one school, so it is able to stumble upon another faction's student at any time. They live in the dormitary with their own faction, sharing a room with 10 - 15 others. They don't usually live together with their family, unless their siblings are also students. There are students who stays with their born faction, and some transfer to another faction. They would go through aptitude test before choosing their faction and entering the school. There are clubs for students to attend ( music, sports, charity, etc. ). There may or may not be cliques between them. Students can also help the staffs to get money for their own or other people. They are free to go around the campus at any time, except for when they are in class or after 11PM. Students are the ones who are monitored the most by the instructors. They study whatever their faction's instructor(s) teach them.
Their age ranges from 16 - freshman to 19 - senior. They can quit and be a school's staff or choose to study until graduating after senior and be an instructor, or a higher class staff. They can also be kicked out of their classes if their results are bad. In the school, they are at the same level as the lower class staffs.
INSTRUCTORS:
They are the ones with the most power in the school. They are in charge of teaching and monitoring students, and taking control of the staffs. There are up to five instructors for each faction. Instructors should know their roles, and should be knowledgeable about whatever subject they're teaching. Their personalities vary, and no one can actually describe how they act. Instructors can have a relationship with each other, or maybe even a student if they can keep it out of others' eyes. They have their own rooms in the faction's house. There are two faction history instructors, who are seen as having no factions.
Their age ranges from 20 to 35. They can be either students after graduating or were born in a family of instructors.
STAFFS:
They work for the school. They can be nurses, librarians, cooks, cleaners, etc. They can also be street performers who entertain the students, the instructors and other staffs. These are called lower class staffs, who might be students who got bad results or those who quit and weren't good enough for a better job. They don't own their own room, they live together with other lower class staffs in a dorm, like students. Higher class staffs would be working in the houses of the factions, having their own rooms to stay in and to work in. They can be students who had great results but didn't want to be instructors or were born in a family with both parents as staff and didn't want to study. There are jobs in each faction for these 'higher class staffs".
For Abnegation, they can be the ones managing charity works, raising funds, organizing events, helping the instructors with monitoring, etc.
For Dauntless, they can be weapon maker or designer, weapon tester, school guard, stunt demonstrator, etc. They can also be instructors' assistants.
For Erudite, they can be researcher, chemical tester ( on animal, not on themselves ), book writer, and other work that wise people like them would do, like doctor, engineer ( often works with the Dauntless ), etc.
For Amity, they are artists, but because they are higher class, they get official payment for their job as artists. They can be poet, painter, singer, etc. They also provide food for the school, their role isn't harvesting and such but bringing the food into the school.
For Candor, since they are honest, they often work as judges, counsilors in school, or the ones that investigate the students when they do something wrong.
These jobs mentioned are just examples, you can read the column on the left for more suggestions.
Their age ranges from 17 to 35. There are many ways to be a staff.
