Foreword:

“Hyung!” Do KyungSoo called in his low full voice. Despite this, it still sounded like a plea that needed to be heard, and responded to else he wouldn’t stop furrowing his thick eyebrows and show his famous doe-eyed glare. “Hyung, please!”

“That’s impossible! It’s too dangerous KyungSoo-ah” the older man replied with a hint of plead as well-- a plead that he stop his absurd request. It has been (8/9?) years since he was assigned to handle the 12 boys of EXO together with another manager.

“Hyung, I said it’s going to be alright!” KyungSoo may be 27 but he still managed whine infront of one of the few men he trusted his well-being.

“KyungSoo-yah, please don’t my job harder than it already is.” He sighed. “Do you have any idea what would happen if they found out you’re alone, in god-who-knows where. Harassment! Rumors! Scandals! They might harm you. Do you want a camera thrown onto your head again? Yes you want privacy and this place is it.” A frown made its way onto the manager’s face.

“I know.” He fell quiet for a minute. “But you have to trust me! Hyung! I’ve planned out everything. Every little detail. My brother would accompany me later on the trip. I promise I’ll behave.”

“Kyu—

“8 years… I’m getting sick of it. Even 3 month long vacations don’t console me. Cause even while on vacation fans would flock around, even at home fans would do crazy things! Even overseas a swarm of girls would walk beside me on the streets! It’s draining me out. Hyung I’m scared. I want to sing. I want to sing more… but somehow, my performance has been lackluster since the start of the year.”

No reply came out of his manager’s mouth, only that of a look of sympathy.

“Idols have expiration dates. One or two more years and poof! EXO will become a ‘used to’ We’re getting older as the industry becomes more competitive. Hyung I want to restart everything and just… I don’t know. I have to keep up if I still want to stand on stage for a few more years.”

“Kyungsoo. You are capable of standing onstage in a few more years.”

“Not under this company.”

His manager fell silent again. Kyungsoo merely stated the obvious. Their company is an idol-factory. If something is expired, or defective, it’s discarded. A two-year old new boy group has been released by SM and is gaining popularity faster than they used to.

“I understand. Let me listen to your plan first.”

Kyungsoo’s heart shaped lips curved into a big smile “It’s simple and witty!” Leaning forward as he sat on the couch, he started explaining, “First of all—ahh, hyung, are you sure we aren’t bugged?”

“I just checked before you guys arrived.” He assured. The two were seated inside the managers’ room as the other members lazed around the house after a deadly schedule.

“Good. As I was saying, first, I need a tinted fast car. Not my car, or your car, or any members’. We need to rent one but someone unknown should do the transaction. Just to be careful. To confuse paparazzi, a few of us members would go to the trainee showcase that would be held soon. Paparazzi are less likely to be around there than the idols’ building. So that’s where you send the rented car. The security’s tighter in there. Plus everyone would be too focused on the showcase to realize I’m not around.”

The manager nodded. So far everything was still plausible. “But cameras would wait outside the dorms you know. They’ll easily find out that you’re not coming home with the others.”

“Here’s the trick hyung,” he raised his phone and grinned. “I’ve told the members this too and they wanted a vacation too.”

“WHAT?” the manger looked like he was ready to end the conversation because of the absurdity of the situation.

“Actually, the Chinese members wanted a break, Jongdae too. Luhan-hyung and Umin-hyung just want to rest in the dorm, and Sehunnie, Baekhyunnie, and Chanyeol just want to play around and eat a lot while Suho-hyung and Kai wanted to train a bit more. Plus they have schedules too.”

“The M members can’t go to China for a vacation you know. And you have a lot of schedules too.”

“I know. But hyung!” A sigh escaped his lips. “You can just say we’re busy on training or I’m stressed and the doctor told me to rest. That’s easy especially now. Basically it’s only me who’ll end up missing. Jongdae might go home for a week though.” He scrunched his nose. “So our plan is this. Since almost everyone is staying in the dorm or the building training, might as well make use of this.” He raised his phone again.

“What of the phone?”

“Instagram accounts. We can fake everything using those.”

“You don’t have one.”

“That’s why I’ll make one.” He explained further, “then later we’ll go to the building to do some training. We’ve planned it out. We’ll bring different clothes and wear them, take pictures for each day, even videos too! And then they’ll post it up while I’m not around. So if ever someone says they’ve seen me somewhere we’d have proof that I was with the members the whole week. Fans would buy that, and they will surely defend us.”

“That’s crazy!!”

“Hyung, I’ll leave this company phone to you. My brother bought a new phone for me. I’ll message you using your private number. The members too.”

The manager was left mute for a long time and was cut off his train of thoughts when the other manager entered the room and called for them. “Hey! Training! The car’s waiting!”

KyungSoo smiled again—a playful one. “Thanks hyung! I’m in your care!” he bowed and then ran off childishly to the members who were exiting the dorm.
