Chapter 9

The intensity of the sunlight shining through the window made her promptly shut her eyes again. She turned her face to the other side as the morning rays shone brightly across her face. She murmured something meaningless. Yuri blinked, yawned & woke up sleepily. She wasn’t a morning person for sure. She didn’t know why but she felt an eagerness to go outside the house today. She moaned sleepily. She tried to find her slippers & stretched out her body. She needed to get the morning newspaper.

She opened the front door quietly & walked towards the mailbox. She was stunned seeing a box of single red roses between the bars of the main gate. Her eyes widened as she didn’t believe her eyes. She looked around to find somebody who put the flower in the wrong place. Nobody was around in this early morning. She took it, opened the box & pulled out the lovely flower. She always liked roses. She smiled lightly & inhaled a deep breath of the scent coming from the fresh rose & then giggled slightly, ‘It seems like somebody forgot his lover’s house as he put it in the wrong house.’ She laughed a bit at her thought & took the flower with her along with the morning newspaper.

Yunho came again, around eleven o’clock. Yuri was reading a magazine at the porch while her right hand held a single red rose. His eyes spotted the red rose. He grinned widely with sparkling lights in his eyes. If he knew she would like it, he should’ve send it to her everyday. However, would she ever want anything from him? She hated him so much for god’s sake.

“Yuri.”

Yuri lifted her face up from the magazine, ‘Oh my god. He really is stubborn. What should I say to make him understand?’ She thought desperately. She closed the magazine severely & try to run back into the house but it was too late as he caught her. The main gate was opened so he could get in easily.

“You look fresh today.” He said, with a smile.

“Yul, may I sit here?” He asked, pointing to the chair next to her.

“What do you want?” Her eyes were forceful, staring at him.

“To finish what I started yesterday.”

Sighing, she stared at him, “You won’t stop bugging me, will you? You won’t give up until you get what you want, huh?”

He grinned lightly seeing that Yuri’s mood wasn’t as bad as yesterday, ‘Maybe giving her a rose wasn’t a bad idea. I should have done that a long time ago.’ His mind told him. He moved closer to her & then sat down beside her.

“I still hope that you would agree to marry me.”

Yuri had opened , ready to argue with him but Yunho cut in quickly. He stared at her & softly said, “Please let me finish. I know you’re a kind-hearted person. I certainly know that you don’t have a heart to kill your own baby. I know you, Yul, even if you hate its father so much.”

His eyes mesmerized her, staring at her intensely. She could see that those eyes glistened with tears, “& I couldn’t find a word to say my biggest thank you from the bottom of my heart.” He said firmly, with deep sincerity.

“Why are you so sure that I’ll keep the baby?”

He set his eyes on her again, “My heart told me so.” He murmured.

Yuri sighed again, & turned her head to the birds that was flying beautifully around the sky. Then she turned her head & set her eyes on the single red rose on her hand as she played with it. She felt a mix of emotion inside her heart.

“The baby needs a name. It needs a status; otherwise he or she would be a laughing joke when it grows up. Please think about it, Yul. I want the baby to have my name & I’ll do anything for you if you keep my baby alive.” His eyes were pleading. Yunho had thrown away his pride to beg her to keep his precious unborn baby alive.

Yuri stared at him again. Her eyes were shimmering with tears now. She bit her bottom dark red lips as she didn’t know what to say. She saw sadness in his eyes.

“Are you serious?”

“Yes.” He answered, without reservation, “Yes, I’m dead serious.” He spoke, with a kind of wonder, “Marry me, Yul.”

Yuri took in a deep breath. She had been thinking all night about this sensitive matter. He was right. She couldn’t let her baby be born without having a surname, out of wedlock. He was right that the baby was innocent. She was too cruel if she kept up her selfish attitude & sacrificed a little life that was growing inside of her stomach!

She turned to looked at him again, & swallowed the lump in . She hoped she wasn’t going to cry again, in front of him. She had to be strong, especially in front of him.

“Alright. I agree.” She finally said the word. Bright lights shone in Yunho’s eyes, “But I have some requirements that you have to agree with me before I sign the marriage paper.”

His smile suddenly disappeared. He frowned, “What do you mean?”

“Bring your lawyer & we’ll do a marriage on paper.” She said calmly.

He stared at her as if she had said something deeply odd. She waited for a moment to see if he would argue with her about that but to her relief, he didn’t, he only nodded weakly.

“Okay. I’ll do anything you want. I’ll bring my lawyer, Kim Jaehwa, here & prepare the papers that you need before we sign anything.” It was his final answer.

Yunho couldn’t argue anymore as he was in the weakest position against her. He was grateful that Yuri finally decided to keep his baby & shared the responsibilities with him. That fact had already made his burden in his heart diminished a little bit, ‘It’s a good start.’ His heart told him.

“Don’t come here. I’ll go to his office. Just let me know if you have made an appointment with him. Good afternoon.” She said, & left him alone quickly before her already swollen eyes broke into tears.

“Good morning, Miss Kwon. Nice to meet you again. Please come in.” Jaehwa said, with a big smile, opening the door for Yuri, “Your early.”
