Chasing a Memory

Description

Kris thought he had all he could ever want...riches and fame, the perfect job and parents who loved him. That was until a tiny person named Byun Baekhyun walked into his life. Baekhyun became his everything, which made it all the more difficult to say goodbye...However, there may be a way not to say goodbye, at a price that may be too high to pay.

“Nothing revives the past so completely as a smell that was once associated with it.” - Vladimir Nabokov

In the past, every time someone would walk by wearing the same cologne you used, my heart would skip a beat, thinking you would walk up to me, grab my hand, and control my life once again...something I had grown used to and had loved. I loved everything about you. Now it's only a memory, and I'm left with nothing but an ache in my heart and the smell of your cologne and the smell of you. That scent could be the only thing that could save you, if I can accomplish it.

Confused about how? Read on to find out what happens...

Chapter 4: This was certainly an interesting concept for a story. For all that everything felt like it happened a little fast, it made sense and came together overall. The way their relationship developed was intense actually and I did enjoy the way you considered the effects of family as well. The juxtaposition between Baekhyun aiming to help his family versus Kris who has no such thoughts on the matter (and later actually becomes even more distanced to them) was a neat facet to incorporate.

I did enjoy Baekhyun's good news from the school and Kris's support in the matter. That always means so much and it was a good portrayal of being there for his significant other. The twist after that was a bit unexpected, as was the appearance of Tao and then Yixing. That came out of left field. O.o Novel idea though, I'll give you that. Likewise with the task set before him to get Baekhyun back as it were. How did Tao did know to go with the scent of his cologne though? I might have just missed that part. >.>

I rather did enjoy the way it ended as well. Kris's seeming overreaction feels apt in the situation with how he responds and such. I had to chuckle at Baekhyun's brief confusion but it did make me smile with that ending line. Happy endings are definitely nice at times.

So, interesting read overall and enjoyable concept. It definitely has elements I haven't really crossed elsewhere. Though I find it intriguing Tao was the only one you gave a typical power to (as in one assigned to the EXO members already - control of time).

Either way, good luck in the contest! ^_^

Chapter 4: Ahh thank you for making a happy ending...as much as I like angst these past few days were too much for me.
The idea of bringing Baek back to life using candles and scents was absolutely brilliant. And the way you described the things that reminded Kris of him through different scents .. I loved it ♡

And the ending, all the emotions that Kris experienced were so well written.
