Chapter 6

Blue Rose: Love or fight

The rest of Jems were pacing around the living room with a panicked expression. Their maknaes have been out since dawn and they haven’t retuned home or any text and calls they had placed.

“Unnie, I’m worried. They’ve never been out this long in the previous they’ve disappeared. It’s almost 1 am and they’re still not back yet” Hanseol said to the panicked and worried Hana, who was walking around the living room.

“Yah, I’m scared too okay? Don’t keep asking and push it all to m-” Hana got cut off when they heard the door opening. Jems looked at each other and ran towards the door, wanting to tackle the two maknaes only to end up lying flat on the floor.

“Yah!! It’s bad enough that you two were missing from dawn. You guys even tackle us down from wanting to tackle you. Do you know how worried we were?” Hyesun said as she stood up and rubbed her stomach.

The twins looked at their members with a poker face. Sure, they were worried and it did make them feel a little bad but are these girls even worth to be called gangsters?

“We left a note on the pancakes we made for your breakfast. What’s the use of being gangsters when you can’t even use your senses? I know you guys were worried, but next time check first. Here, read it” Minji said and tossed the paper to Hana who caught it while glaring at her.

Hey unnies,

Minji and I have to go somewhere important. I hope you guys don’t worry too much. Here are some pancakes for breakfast. We will return around 1-1:30am. If we’re not back by 2, feel free to call the police and scold us or tackle us once we meet. See you guys soon!!

PS: Don’t call my brother, or else you answer to him.

“I made those for you guys and you didn’t even eat it. I’ll put it in the fridge and heat it up for tomorrow instead” Eunji said. She pouted at the pancakes and picked it up. She placed them in the freezer and came back into the living room only to see her unnies smiling at Minji awkwardly while her twin just looked at them judgingly.

“Who did you call?” Minji accused and glared at her unnies. All they could do was smile sheepishly at the now frustrated maknae. Minji shook her head and sighed.

“You called my brother didn’t you?” she asked and Hana nodded while apologizing sheepishly. The twins sighed and shook their heads in despair. They were in BIG trouble once their brother comes.

“I’ll go take the risks and call him. I wonder what he had done this time. He is so weird, I mean the previous time we so called ‘went missing’, he almost killed Daehyun oppa for telling him to relax. Which brother does that?” Eunji lectured and went towards the house phone, only to be stopped by the rapid ringing of bells and a series of knocking. Minji sighed and glared at her unnies. She told one of to answer it.

“I’m not in the mood nor am I going to face his wrath. It was your fault for not checking the pancakes” Minji said and walked up the stairs, into her room and slamming the door. Eunji, feeling a little scared without her vicious twin, ran up too and slammed her door.

With a depressed sigh, Sora stood up and opened the door only to find a worried Yongguk with s, each holding and rubbing their stomachs. Sora looked at s in worry and guilt but they assured her that they were okay and that they should worry about Yongguk who was babbling nonsense. She turned towards Yongguk and held him.

“Did they come home yet?!” Yongguk shouted worriedly and Sora flinched. Yongguk apologized and looked at her in expectation. Sore nodded slowly and pointed to the twins room, indicating that they were home and in their rooms.

Yongguk’s face turned from worried to relief and then to angry. He pushed Sora away gently and stormed up the stairs to Minji’s room, since it was the closest, and banged on her door. s just shook their head and made the way in, sitting on the couch with Jems and started talking.

On the other side, Minji rolled her eyes at her brother. She slipped her shirt on and went towards the door, opening it casually with her brows raised as if judging him. Before Yongguk can speak however, she started talking.

“I went out with Eunji to settle something and seriously don’t you guys get used and tired of this already? We’ve been doing this for 5 years” Minji said and Yongguk glared and his younger sister.

“Well excuse me for getting worried as your older brother Miss Coldie pants. What business have you guys been doing anyways? We’ve never known so how could we put our hearts at ease knowing that we don’t know where you are or what you guys are doing?” Yongguk retorted and Minji frowned.

“You know we’ll never answer that question so why do you even bother asking? Now if you would excuse me, I want to sleep. I was out the whole day and all I want to do is rest. You know where the extra rooms are so stay if you want. You know I hate it when you go home late” Minji gave her brother one last look before slamming her door shut.

Yongguk let out an irritated sigh and sat down in front of Minji’s door. He ruffled his hair and pouted at his lack of control towards his sisters.

“Oh, and stop trying to kill your members when we go ‘missing’. They’re only trying to help you calm your down so you won’t lash out to others” Eunji suddenly said, coming out of her room. Yongguk glared at her only to receive a fiercer glare. He flinched and turned away, pouting. Eunji softened and went towards her brother. She kneeled in front of him and hugged him.

“Go sleep oppa. Sorry for worrying you and the guys. You know Minji is too. We want to tell you where we have been going but it’s not the right time yet. We will tell you one day, so be patient okay? I love you and good night” Eunji kissed her brother’s forehead and went back into her room.

Yongguk sighed in frustration and looked at s who were casually talking to the Jems members downstairs. They looked okay but was each holding an ice pack near their stomachs. He felt really guilty for punching all of them in the stomach. He was just afraid to lose another family member, nonetheless his last two. They mean the world to him

He slowly stood up and went downstairs. Jems and s stopped their conversation and looked up, smiling at him warmly.

“Are they safe and okay?” Daehyun asked and Yongguk nodded. He felt sorry towards Daehyun the most. Considering he almost killed the guy for telling him to calm down. If it wasn’t for Youngjae, Daehyun would probably be dead by now.

Daehyun stood up and placed a hand on his shoulder, snapping him out of his trance. Daehyun smiled at him warmly and gave him a brotherly hug.

“It’s okay. We don’t mind being your [unching bag. We know they mean a lot to you. You don’t ae to feel guilty” He patted Yonnguk’s back and went up the stairs. Youngjae called out to Daehyun and asked where he was heading.

“Let’s just sleep her for tonight. The trip home is calling for an accident since all of us are dead tired. We have to go to the agency early tomorrow anyways” he replied and continued walking up the stairs, heading to the guest room.

Yongguk sighed again and decided to head to Minji’s room once again. He opened the door only to see her sleeping soundly on her bed with a photo in hand. He frowned and went to see what the content of the photo was.

His eyes softened at the sight of the family photo that contained his whole family. It was taken on his birthday. They all went on a vacation to Singapore and even got to skip school for two weeks. They had stayed in a luxurious hotel and ate delicious food. His family and he really loved that country a lot, especially him and Minji.

“You miss them don’t you Minji? I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough to protect them. I should’ve been instead. You guys deserve better protection” he tears up and his sister’s cheek lovingly. Minji slowly opened her eyes only to be greeted by her brother’s pained expression. Her cold expression softened as she wiped her brother’s tears away.

“Don’t blame yourself oppa. You know how I feel about it. Are you okay? I’ really sorry for worrying you but you really should not treat your members like that. They’re human too. They’ll lose their cool eventually” she said and leaned on Yongguk’s shoulder. She wiped his remaining tears and smiled at him.

“I know how much we mean to you. I know how much you care and how much you do to protect us. But oppa, we really want you to be by our side. Why won’t you run the mafia with us? You know I dislike this to the core. You know I hate not having you by my side” Minji pleaded, tearing up. Yongguk could only sigh and shook his head.

“Not all of us can lead. It said so in dad and mum’s will. It will give out your identity and we can’t let that happen. It also states that only two will lead and those two are you and Eunji” Yongguk said and Minji sighed. She let more of her tears drop and shook her head.

“Then you and Eunji take over. I don’t like doing this. I’m never safe. I hate it. I hate the fact that I can’t do anything else but fight the whole of my life. I hate it” Minji cried out and hit her brother’s chest. Yongguk held her fist and hugged his crying sister. He her hair lovingly.

“I don’t have a safe life anymore. I’ve never experienced being a kid. I can’t have fun like normal girls my age do. All I ever did ever since I was small was fight. I hate this life oppa. I hate it” Minji cried and Yongguk softened.

All his life he has never heard Minji complain about her life. He thought she was okay with it. He thought she had always been happy with what she has. But today for some reason, she seemed so fragile and vulnerable.

“It’s okay. It’s okay. You’ll get through this. We’ll get through this, together. I promise that I would always stay by your side. You don’t have to worry” Yongguk said as he slowly laid Minji down. He wiped MInji’s remaining tears and gave her a small smile.

“Pinky promise” Minji held her pinky finger up and looked at her brother cutely. Yongguk’s smile grew as he interlaced his pinky with Minji’s. “Pinky promise” Yongguk replied and Minji gave him a kiss on the cheek. Yongguk smiled and let go of her pinky.

He tucked Minji into a more comfortable position and waited until her breaths evened out, indicating she was asleep. He kissed her sister’s forehead and got up slowly. He exited Minji’s room and headed to Eunji’s. When he opened the door, he saw Eunji sitting on her porch window, staring at the moon as if it was the most beautiful thing she’s ever seen.

“Eunji-ah, are you okay?” Yongguk asked her softly. Eunji turned and smiled at him. She nodded her head and patted the space next to her, motioning him to sit with her. She turned back to face the moon and leaned her head on the window sill. Yongguk sat next to her slowly and looked at the moon.

“Mum and dad are up there. Do you see that brightly lit star oppa?” Eunji asked as she pointed at a big star, shining brightly in the sky. Yongguk softened and nodded. He smiled at the star as if he could see his parents there.

“I see it Eunji. They’re probably looking at us right now, eavesdropping on our conversation” he joked and accusingly pointed at the star.

“Umma appa, don’t listen okay? It’s brother and sister time. We want to gossip about boys and plan each other’s wedding” he shouted and Eunji slapped his arm lightly, while laughing uncontrollably. Yongguk feigned a look of hurt, which made Eunji laugh even more.

“Oppa stop it. You’re such a drama queen” Eunji said and leaped off the window, lying on her bed. Yongguk followed her and lay next to her. Eunji placed her head on Yongguk’s chest at he played with her hair while she played with his fingers.

“Don’t you just miss them oppa? Their dorky smiles and their never ending love for each other?” Eunji asked softly and Yongguk nodded slowly.

“Why didn’t you take over of the mafia then? Minji might not show it, but being her twin, I can feel that she doesn’t like being the leader. There might be the two of us but that doesn’t mean it makes the job easier. We are girls oppa” Eunji said and Yogguk just shook his head.

“I don’t want to talk about this again. You both know why I did what I did. I don’t want to talk through this again” he said and got up, only to be pulled back down by Eunji. She gave her brother a small and appreciative smile.

“Then be careful in what you do. You said we needed good protection and all. You’re our only sense of protection. We can’t lose you. We won’t lose you. It’s not your fault. It never was” Eunji pecked his brother’s cheek and lay down.

Yongguk smiled at her and tucked her into a more comfortable position, just like what he did for Minji. He stayed until Eunji fell asleep before kissing her forehead, whispering a small good night and headed out of her room.

“Had a good talk with your sister’s hyung?” Youngjae asked, suddenly appearing out of Sora’s room. He looked at him and Sora’s door, as if asking why he was there. Youngjae just chuckled.

“She fell asleep in my arms when we were talking. Judging by her face, she looked very worried for your two sisters. Even when she doesn’t show it” Youngjae said and started walking. Yongguk followed and they slowly headed to guest room.

Yongguk suddenly started apologizing again and Youngjae just smiled and patted his leader’s back. Youngjae was known as the type of the person who held grudges so Yongguk didn’t want Youngjae to hate him. He was after all and he cared for all of them, despite his lost of control sometimes.

“It’s okay hyung. I understand. I would do the same thing too if Mirae was doing the same thing as what Eunji and Minji did. Al we have to do now is go to sleep hyung. It’s late and we have to go to the agency at dawn” Youngjae replied.

The agency is the one assisting the mafia. Blue rose isn’t an illegal mafia because it actually helps the police or the government to be exact, maintain the peace in Seoul. Although there were policeman and soldiers, Blue rose handles more of the undercover stuff. More like spying, without the fancy equipment and stuff.

The parents of the ‘Bang’ siblings were the previous leaders of Blue rose, the thorns protecting the rose as they might call it. Ever since Blue rose was created by their late late grandparents to protect the country, it was passed down to the children. It was tradition they have more than 3 children then as to not raise the possibilities of getting their identity known

When the two leaders get married, however, it’s between them to decide which sibling takes over the mafia with the help of the husband. The other sibling can live a safe life. So the leaders have to stay at a number of two people only, thus explains the situation the ‘Bang’ siblings are facing.

The reason why Yongguk refused to take up the position was because he was trying is best to protect his sisters from the sidelines. He also couldn’t bear the guilt of taking up his parent’s place. He wasn’t able to save them from getting killed. He felt too guilty.

No one knew how many children the previous leaders had but all they knew was that every single leader are siblings before the announcement of change.

“Arraso. Do they have any leads on who killed my parents and kidnapped my sisters?” Yongguk asked but Youngjae could only sigh and shake his head. Yongguk frowned and ruffled his hair in frustration.

“I’m afraid not hyung. It’s as if they are not even living anymore. They were so clean and detailed in their work, even the two that protected you sisters. I can’t stand it hyung. I need to know. Your parents are like mine and Mirae’s too. She was devastated when she found out” youngjae said and lowered his head sadly.

Yongguk’s parents were like his because Youngjae and his sister, Mirae, had actually lost their parents when Mirae was born. Yongguk’s parent were the one that found them, Youngjae was pulling his little sister who was in a basket, when he was a baby no more than 4 years old. From the day they’ve found him until now, he and Mirae actually respect and treated Yongguk’s parents like their own.

Hearing the news of their death almost led him and Mirae into depression, nonetheless the ‘Bang’ siblings. He wished they were still here because he felt really protected when they are.

“Hey, it’s okay. They’re not going to be happy if they see us mopping around like this. It’s been 5 years since their deaths. It’s not good to linger around in the past. It would only hurt more” Yongguk ‘lectured’ but in all honesty, he was suffering.

He missed his parents because despite their threatened safety, they really loved all of them. Even to the extent of not thinking twice before saving his younger sisters who were in the safety of two unknown men. He was determined to find out who these two guys were and why did they keep his sisters safe and betray their group.

“I’m sorry hyung. I’m going to bed. You should too hyung. It’s 3:05 in the morning. We have to wake up in 2 hours. Better have some sleep then none right. Even strong bodies need rest” Youngjae opened the door of the guest room and pulled Yongguk in.

He led Yongguk to the bed and made him sit. He went to the other side of the bed and lay down. Muttering a small ‘good night’, he adjusted himself to a more comfortable position before falling asleep instantly.

Yongguk mumbled and small ‘good night’ in reply and slowly laid down. He fixed himself to a more comfortable position before starting to feel drowsy. He closed his eyes and slowly fell into dreamland.
