Ghosts Like To Play

Ghosts Like To Play

Due to a group project, Heechul had to stay late at school. But his group mates had decided to play some prank on him, which ended with Heechul trapped inside the music room. The music room was rumored to be one of the most haunted spots at school.

“You are all so dead when I get out of this room!!!” Heechul shouted as he banged his fists against the door. He could hear his friends laughing outside. “Come on, guys. Get me out of here!!!”

“Don’t worry, Heechul. We will come to your rescue the moment you scream like a girl.” Another series of laughter came from his friends. Their laughter and footsteps started to fade away. They were obviously leaving Heechul in the music room for a while.

When he couldn’t hear any sound from his friends, Heechul sighed and gave up. Then he felt the temperature drop. The hair on his arms was standing up. He wrapped his arms around his waist as he started to shiver.

Shivering wasn’t a good sign for Heechul. The first reason was that he was feeling too cold for his liking. The second reason would be that there was something, or rather someone, watching him. The third last and worst reason would be a ghost touching him.

It probably would’ve been better for him to close his eyes and stay at one spot while waiting for his friends to come back, but he was curious. If he was going to see some scary-looking ghost that was going to traumatize him like in his past experiences, he just hoped it wasn’t going to kill him. He turned his head and saw nothing. He was about to breathe out a sigh of relief when the piano started playing. His eyes shifted towards the piano and stil … there was nothing.

The beautiful melody continued to flow in the air. Heechul slowly started to approach the piano. He could see the piano keys being pressed down, but there was definitely no one pressing them. He went to the back of the piano to check for something that could be a sign of someone playing another prank on him. He couldn’t find or see anything so he went back to the piano’s front and finally saw something … or rather someone.

It wasn’t the first time Heechul saw a ghost but this was the first time he saw such a handsome ghost. The moonlight fell through the transparent figure, which made him glow in the dark. Heechul couldn’t help but stare at the handsome ghost who continued to play a beautiful melody on the piano. Heechul’s trance was broken when he heard screaming. The screams were coming from his friends.

“Don’t mind them. My friends won’t kill your friends.” The ghost stopped playing the piano and looked straight into Heechul’s eyes. “You’re beautiful.”

Heechul felt his breath being taken away. The sound of the ghost’s voice was so deep and manly unlike the usual shrieks and screams coming from the scary ghosts of his past. “I should be the one saying that to you.” He found himself replying.

“Is Kim Heechul being humble? That’s a miracle. You usually brag about your looks.” The ghost chuckled as he saw the shocked expression on Heechul’s face. “Don’t look too shocked. You’re actually quite popular amongst the ghosts. They even feel happy when you get to see them.”

“Well, I’m not happy to see them.” Heechul mumbled. “They scare the hell out of me.”

The ghost laughed again and it still sounded y to Heechul’s ears. “Aren’t you happy to see me?” He asked teasingly.

“Well, you’re different. I like you.” That was Heechul’s straightforward answer. He was comfortable enough to show his personality around the ghost.

“I like you, too.” The ghost replied and patted the empty spot next to him. Heechul took a seat beside the ghost and felt cold, but he didn’t shiver this time. It was a comfortable kind of coldness.

The next day…

“Heechul, are you okay? I heard that you were trapped in the music room last night and that your friends were haunted by ghosts. Were you haunted as well? You were all alone in the music room!!! You should keep your cellphone in your pocket at all times and call me if something like that ever happens again. I’ll come to your rescue right away.” Siwon was very worried and concerned. His hands ran over Heechul’s body to check for injuries but then again, it could have been his excuse for skinship.

“I’m fine. You can stop worshipping my body now.” If it had been some other guy, Heechul would’ve moved away, but this was Siwon touching him. Siwon’s touches were either comforting, loving or friendly, and never erted, unlike others. He also knew that Siwon liked skinship and already got himself used to it. This time, however, he felt himself shivering. He looked around to find a reason. When he finally looked up at the school building, he saw the ghost he had met last night standing at the window of the music room.

“Are you cold?” Siwon asked as he felt Heechul shiver under his touch.

“I just remembered that I have something to do. You go first to the classroom,” Heechul said as he ran towards the school building, away from Siwon. He made his way up to the music room and saw that it was filled with students.

“Looking for someone?” Heechul felt himself shivering again as he heard a familiar voice whisper into his ear. He turned, but he couldn’t see the ghost anywhere. “Let’s meet in the music room again tonight. You better go to class or you’re going to be late.” He felt a slight push against his back.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Don’t let him touch you again.” That was the first thing Heechul heard when he entered the music room.

“Who?”

“Siwon.”

Heechul raised an eyebrow. “Why not?”

“I don’t like it.” The ghost floated closer to Heechul. Ghostly fingertips seemed to graze lightly against Heechul’s cheek. “You may call it jealousy, and I’ll admit it.”

“I’m not stopping Siwon. If you want him to stop touching me, you better do something.” Heechul challenged.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“What did you do to Siwon? He looked terrible!!! His hair wasn‘t in style and his clothes weren‘t ironed! But most of all, he wouldn‘t even look at me!!!” Heechul exclaimed once he entered the music room on the third night.

“I just gave him a nightmare. That’s all.” The ghost gave him an innocent look as if giving a nightmare to someone wasn’t a bad thing to do.

“Don’t do it again or I’ll stop coming here to visit you.” Heechul said as he took his usual seat beside the ghost. He positioned his fingers on the piano keys. “So where were we?” He still couldn’t believe that he was taking piano lessons from a ghost.

On the fourth night…

“AAAHHH!!!” Heechul screamed.

“Heechul-honey, are you okay?” His mother quickly came into the bathroom to see Heechul standing straight in the bathtub with a towel around his waist.

“I just saw a cockroach and somehow killed it. I’m fine now.” Heechul lied. His mother quickly accepted the lie and left. As soon as his mother was out of sight, he glared at the laughing ghost in his bathtub. “You almost gave me a heart attack!!! I thought it was going to be like in those horror movies when hair would suddenly appear and a scary face would follow and I’ll die!!!” The ghost still continued to laugh. “Stop laughing!”

The ghost bit his lip to stop himself from laughing but he couldn’t stop his shoulders from shaking. “Sorry.” He didn’t sound sorry, though.

“That’s it. I’m going to ignore you.” Heechul was angry. He didn’t like his quiet bubble bath time to be disturbed, and he definitely didn’t like getting scared. He stepped out of the bathtub and went to his room. He was about to change into his clothes when he caught sight of the ghost staring at him by the mirror. “Stop staring.”

“I thought you’re ignoring me.” The ghost smirked.

“Stop playing smart. Turn around while I’m changing.” Heechul demanded.

“I like the sight. Why should I take my eyes off of you?” The ghost’s eyes trailed Heechul’s body up and down. He was obviously, blatantly checking him out. “Don’t even think of going back to the bathroom to change. I can always follow you anywhere.”

Heechul could feel the blush forming on his cheeks. “What the heck!?!? You’re erted!!!”

“Only for you.” The ghost winked and disappeared.

Heechul couldn’t help but feel paranoid. Sure, the ghost disappeared but that didn’t mean that he stopped staring at Heechul. He made sure to wear his very long shirt first and kept the towel around his waist as he pulled his boxers on.

Before Heechul fell asleep, he felt a weigh beside him on the bed. He also felt fingers running through his hair. He shivered at the coldness and felt being tucked under the blanket. “Goodnight.” He could hear the ghost’s voice and felt a light kiss on his forehead.

It had been a week since the ghost and Heechul had started hanging out together. The ghost looked manly and mature so that Heechul would sometimes forget how young the ghost actually was. He observed the ghost who was very addicted to the Playstation. His face was full of concentration as he fought off his enemies.

“I still don’t know your name.” Heechul suddenly blurted out.

The ghost didn’t reply until he won the game. “Try beating me in this game. If you win, I’ll tell you my name.” He handed Heechul the other controller.

“Fine! I’m gonna beat you!!!” Although Heechul knew he was nowhere as good in videogames as the ghost. After 10 rounds with the ghost always being the winner and Heechul always being the loser, Heechul threw the controller onto the ground. “Yah! What’s the big deal?!?! It’s just a name.”

The ghost gently put down the controller. “Honestly, I don’t remember. In fact, I don’t know why I ended up in the music room. I don’t remember anything about the time when I was alive. I also don’t know why I’m a wandering ghost. I tried asking the ghosts in school about it but they said they didn’t know me. I just suddenly appeared one day. They said I definitely don’t go to your school because if I did, they should’ve been able to recognize me.”

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t know it was such a sensitive topic.” Heechul was torn between wanting to help and not wanting to help. He wanted to help the ghost so that the ghost could finally rest in peace and move on to his next life or something, but that would mean that they couldn’t see each other anymore.

The ghost shook his head. “It’s ok. Since I met you, I’m starting to regain some memories, but everything is still blurry. There are times when I think that maybe we knew each other when I was still alive because I couldn’t think of any other reason that would explain you being the trigger of my memories.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The ghost and Heechul tried to forget about their previous conversation but they know that something has changed. The ghost disappears more often. When asked where he had been, it’s either he won’t reply or change the topic.

“I don’t like it.”

“You don’t like what?” The ghost looked at Heechul with a confuse expression.

“I have the feeling you’re just going to completely disappear one day.” Heechul tried to hold the ghost’s hand but all he could feel was the blanket under the ghost’s hand.

“I know what you mean.”

Both didn’t know that the day the ghost will disappear would be the next day. Heechul kept on waiting for him to come back everyday. After a whole month, Heechul finally accepted the fact that the ghost is never going to come back again. After a whole month of denial, Heechul finally let his tears escape. “I didn’t even get to know his name.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

A year passed by. The new school year began. There was still an hour left before the morning ceremony. Heechul spent that hour in the music room. He played the piano piece that the ghost taught him. He stopped playing when he felt himself shiver as the cold wind entered from the window. Then the door opened.

“It’s so early in the morning so I thought it would be a ghost playing the piano but I guess those rumors aren’t true.”

Heechul stared in shock at the person. Could it be…? “What’s your name?” He found himself asking.

“If you beat me in a videogame, I’ll tell you.”

THE END
