Lucid Strings

Description

"Meeting you was my salvation... I can't describe it any other way. There was a darkness rotting within me.... And only you could see it. If I'd never met you... I wouldn't know, what kind of a person I was."

Bae Jooeun is a young woman, who has enrolled into the Seoul Institute of Arts. There is a past lurking through the slightly opened doors behind her, which she's still unable to completely shut. She walks on the path she has carved for herself and has sworn to herself not to step away from that very resolution.  In hopes to survive three years and get her degree without much drama, Jooeun manages to live through first two weeks of college life before a young aspiring photographer notices her during one of the lectures...

This tale is far from a love story.

It's about two people, who upon meeting one another were able to understand their own core.

Two reflections.

So different and yet the same.

Foreword

"Jooeun... My name is Jooeun" I repeated.

"Will you write it in Hanja for me?"

After a moment of silence I take the pen. No one ever asked me to do this, when I'd introduce myself before. He was the first.

I wasn't nervous, I was just curious as to why was this guy interested in the meaning of my name. With soft I wrote it down and let him look not only at the meaning of the name but also at my handwriting as I realized a bit too late. I was suddenly conscious about how the lines were a little off- My calligraphy teacher would kill me if he saw the product of the ink on this particular paper.

"Silver pearl..." The boy repeated, his lips lining every single letter as if he was trying to breathe my name in.

"Nae... It's silver pearl." I replied with an amusement edged on my lips, my voice still quiet.

He looked at me with those onyx orbs, small dimple showing on his cheek as the corner of his mouth curled up. "Nice name, miss. I'm Myungsoo. Kim Myungsoo." He managed to whisper, before professor looked in our direction with a look of a man, who was about to jump on his pray.
