Foreword

In the City

It had been ten years since Eunji had last been in the city.   Her father had moved them to the country after bad circumstances and somehow she found herself returning in a similar state.  She had managed to gain admittance to Hongik University, not that her mother was very impressed by that.   None the less Eunji’s mom provided the tuition and an apartment, whether it was out of obligation or not Eunji wasn’t sure.  Her mother had nothing to do with them since they had left Seoul.

Her dad did not say goodbye when she had left to catch the train.  Eunji had phoned to tell him that she made it safely but he ended the call after two rings.  She expected this and wasn’t sure if he would ever speak to her again.  Eunji’s older brother, Joon Young had packed up all his things and disappeared just a week before.   She was quite sure he had secretly applied to study abroad with the help of their mother.  Eunji’s shoulders shook in anger just thinking of it, he had left her too with no inkling of his plans.   Now she went and decided to accept her mother’s financial aid while moving to Seoul to study, it had hurt her father's pride.  For the first time she had out right denied his wishes and she would accept his childish behaviour for now. Eunji figured the more she pushed by calling every day and emailing him updates, he would eventually soften .  That being so, she wasn’t going to let him make her feel like for wanting to be able to provide for her own.

“I’ll be damned if I let him drag me down with his pride,” she whispered to no one.   Eunji exited the bus and turned the corner slinging her backpack over one shoulder.  She took a deep breath and stared up at the entrance gate to Hongik University, hoping to God she could stick it out.
