Hongbin is different ever since young, he knew, just by observing. He never liked playing with toys and video games. He always prefer reading, in the comfort of his own room. Many boys avoided him, with the impression of him being a boring boy. First impressions were never good for the boy named Lee Hongbin.

 

 When he grew up, he realised that he never liked skipping classes and having fun like the rest of his classmates. He often tends to spend his whole day at the school's library if possible, burying himself in books. This fact of him caused almost everyone to leave him alone with no thought of wanting to be friends with him.

 

 But being alone doesn't mind him at all. He didn't have to talk. In fact, he preferred to be alone with the comfort of coffee and books, thus losing the 'ability' to talk. But inside him, he knew he never really have any chance of experiencing what friends are like. He knew he had to change, if not, he will never experience what real fun it's like, his mother once said to him when he was 13.

 

 But everything changed one day, when he was 18. In paragraph two, I wrote 'almost everyone' and not 'everyone' because there is this one boy who began to cling onto Hongbin a few days after the first day when these two bumped into each other.

 

 This boy is called Han Sanghyuk.

 

 The first day they met was on April 20 when Sanghyuk accidentally clashed into Hongbin's chest, which two arms were holding onto many books and the hallway silence were interrupted by the loud impact the books had on the floor and the soft thuds as the two boys fell onto the floor. Flustered, Sanghyuk picked himself up and bowed and apologized to Hongbin many times for his carelessness.

 

 But all he got was silence as Hongbin picked himself up and began to pick his books up, with the help of Sanghyuk, and after he finished picking up his books, he just walked off, ignoring the mumbles of sorries and the comments of passers-by as he walked up to his favourite place of all times, the library.

 

 Sanghyuk, on the other hand, was still flustered and embarrassed as his friend, Minhyuk, finally caught up with him. They were playing 'catch' before the whole incident started. Sanghyuk told Minhyuk what happened and that's where Sanghyuk learnt that Hongbin was his hyung and how different Hongbin is from the boys in the school.

 

 But something about Hongbin just made Sanghyuk attracted to the fact that he started to ask where is Hongbin's favourite place in school just to stalk him. Sanghyuk, who hates books, started to 'read' them just to be closer to Hongbin. He would eye on Hongbin some distance away, watching how Hongbin adjusted his glasses and read with so much concentration.

 

 After a few days of observation, Sanghyuk gathered his courage and went up to Hongbin, trying to start a conversation with him but failed, seeing how the boy would only nod and shake his head at Sanghyuk's questions. If Sanghyuk's question needed sentence answers, he would just shrugged, urging the boy to just give up and leave him alone.

 

 Hongbin knew Sanghyuk, as he learn, was always watching him from a distance and to be truthful, Hongbin was a bit disturbed by it, being the first time someone was actually paying attention to him. And when the boy went up to him and started to converse with him, Hongbin began to panic inside, not knowing how to answer the boy when he could only feel the butterflies in his stomach and how his palms get sweaty whenever the boy is near him.

 

 He always try to urge the boy to give up, because he don't want to leave his comfort, but that only encouraged Sanghyuk to carry on to be close to Hongbin. At first, it was just conversations but as the days go on, you can always see Sanghyuk trailing after Hongbin like a lost puppy, sometimes he would be lucky enough to cling onto Hongbin.

 

 Sanghyuk knew Hongbin is different but as different as Hongbin is, Sanghyuk couldn't help but feel his heart beating faster and faster. He was in love with Hongbin, the boy that is different from everyone, including him. Sanghyuk knew it was going to be hard to be close with Hongbin, but he is willing to try, willing to be as close as he could as long as Hongbin give him his attention, even the slightest encourage him on a lot.

 

 Hongbin doesn't know why, doesn't know why Sanghyuk was so willing to stick to him when he was so different. Sanghyuk was like the rest, playful and always mischievous but what made him different from the rest is that he never leave Hongbin alone. And Hongbin didn't know why but he like it when Sanghyuk talk to him. And to Sanghyuk, it became an interest for him to make Hongbin talk, even if its just one word.

 

 Everyday, you can see Sanghyuk next to Hongbin, conversing and his eyes always hopeful, hopeful to hear a 'yes' or maybe something more. Many told Sanghyuk to just give up, and that Hongbin will just be the same but Sanghyuk never ever give up. He didn't want to.

 

 And that paid off when one day, Hongbin and Sanghyuk was just sitting under a tree when Sanghyuk bluntly asked Hongbin,

 

"Hyung, am I annoying?"

 

 Sanghyuk could see Hongbin freeze up, and he thought he was annoying to Hongbin as his heart sunk as tears welled up in his eyes as the thought of not giving up flowed away. Maybe I should just give up, Sanghyuk thought as he got ready to leave, not wanting to bother Hongbin when he heard a soft yet melodious voice,

 

"No."

 

 Sanghyuk' eyes widen as he looked at Hongbin, whose cheeks were slight pink as he spoke. Sanghyuk's heart swelled up in happiness. Hongbin finally spoke to him after so many days. In his happiness, he hugged Hongbin, who tenses when he felt Sanghyuk's arms around him and hi heart started to beat so fast like its going to explode. They stayed like this, in silence, throughout the break period.

 

 From then on, Sanghyuk was finally able to hear Hongbin's actual voice, even though its just one word or so, it was enough for Sanghyuk for he knew its progress. Hongbin was hesitant to continue to talk, but Sanghyuk urged him to do so, and so he did. Their friendship grew a lot from then on. So did their feelings for each other. But none of them were brave enough to confess.

 

 The first time Hongbin actually spoke a sentence was the day Sanghyuk failed his exam for the first time. Hongbin's heart broke when he saw the boy broke down in loud sobs. Sanghyuk was a hardworking boy and this kind of result upset him a lot. With hesitant movements, Hongbin hugged the crying boy and whispered,

 

"It's okay, hyung can tutor you if you like. You look ugly when you cry, so don't cry okay?"

 

 Sanghyuk cried even more at Hongbin's statement, but this time, due to happiness. Hongbin finally says a sentence. Finally. Sanghyuk calmed himself down and sniffs abit before snuggling into Hongbin's chest and mumbled,

 

"Does that mean I look pretty when I don't cry?"

 

 Hongbin swear that he blushed bright red that Sanghyuk's statement and its all because of that one boy.

 

 But as you know, Sanghyuk have friends too, right? His friends were getting tired of seeing Sanghyuk with Hongbin the whole time and started to plead with Sanghyuk to join them again. And during the same time, Hongbin was preparing for his exams. Not wanting to disturb his hyung, Sanghyuk agreed, not knowing how much it was affecting Hongbin on the inside.

 

 Hongbin's chest started to hurt inside when he witnessed Sanghyuk laughing loudly with his own group of friends during break time. It's been days since the two hanged out and Hongbin came into conclusion that maybe, maybe Sanghyuk was bored of him already. And that after Sanghyuk realised that he could actually talk, he wouldn't need him anymore.

 

 Hongbin knew that Sanghyuk wasn't his to keep and he knew that one day Sanghyuk is going to leave him, but he didn't know that it will hurt this bad. Tears flowed down his cheeks as he walked away from Sanghyuk and his group of friends.

 

 It was the first time Hongbin cried over friendship.

 

 Sanghyuk knew something was wrong. He knew it immediately when he tried talking to Hongbin but Hongbin just gave him the cold shoulder or just absently nod to every question Sanghyuk ask and quickly walked away. The coldness Hongbin gave him hurt Sanghyuk just as badly as Hongbin was hurt. He doesn't know what's wrong but his heart was breaking into pieces. It's like he was getting further and further away from Hongbin when he made so much effort just to be close to him.

 

 His friends couldn't help but feel sorry everytime Sanghyuk came to them, all sad and emotionless. Deciding to help their friend out, they secretly cornered Hongbin after school and demanded why Hongbin was doing such a thing to their friend but all Hongbin could say was a sentence that left Sanghyuk's friends in confusion.

 

"He was the one who left me first."

 

 Sanghyuk's eyebrows raised in confusion when his friends told him what happened. I was the one who left him first? Sanghyuk thought as he rubbed his neck, deep in thought, when suddenly he smiled a very wide grin and without wasting a second, he waved goodbye to his friends and ran to look for Hongbin.

 

 As he ran around the school, looking for Hongbin, he finally caught sight of him, sitting under the tree where Hongbin first spoke. He was there, reading a book, like always. Sanghyuk ran up to him, panting, as he sat next to Hongbin, ignoring how Hongbin slightly moved away from him and gripped Hongbin's face to look at him.

 

"I'm sorry, hyung, I didn't think you will be that upset when I left you. It's just that your exams are around the corner and I didn't want to disturb you so I joined my friends. I didn't know you felt left out, sorry hyung, forgive Sanghyukkie?"

 

 Sanghyuk pouted, using aegyo to persuade Hongbin to forgive him. Hongbin' eyes looked down as he blushed at Sanghyuk's pout and shyly nodded. So Sanghyuk never got bored of me, Hongbin thought as he quietly sighed in relief. As Sanghyuk wrapped his arms around Hongbin, he snuggled into Hongbin's chest as he murmured,

 

"Hyung, you know I like you right?"

 

 Sanghyuk asked, hiding his blush in Hongbin's chest as he blurted out his confession. Hongbin gulped in nervousness as he thought that no way Sanghyuk would ever liked me the same way I like him. Thinking that Sanghyuk means he like him as a friend, he nodded and said,

 

"As a friend right? Yeah I - "

 

"No hyung, I like like you."

 

 Sanghyuk looked up at Hongbin, seeing how Hongbin tensed up at the confession. Sanghyuk's heart sunk as he knew his love for Hongbin is one-sided. Not wanting to ruin their friendship because of this one confession, he spoke softly, as if he was going to cry,

 

"I-it's o-ok hyung, you don't have to - "

 

"I like you too."

 

 Sanghyuk's eyes widen at Hongbin's brave confession as he felt his cheeks were on fire and his heart couldn't stop beating so hard and fast. He looked into Hongbin's eyes shyly, whose eyes were also staring back at him intensely. Suddenly, Sanghyuk had the urge to kiss those pink lips of Hongbin's.

 

 With courage, he placed his lips against Hongbin's, smiling when Hongbin shyly placed his arms around his waist while he placed his own around Hongbin's neck. It was the most beautiful moment that they can remember. One worth remembering.

 

 After that, Hongbin was introduced into Sanghyuk's group of friends and soon, they realised that Hongbin was not as boring as what others had said about Hongbin. Sanghyuk was glad he had not given up and he rested his head on Hongbin's shoulder as Hongbin gave him a peck on the forehead and resulted in an uproar of 'awwww' among the group of friends. Everything was perfect for Sanghyuk and Hongbin.

 

 Hongbin knew he had changed. And it was all because of Sanghyuk that he had been able to experience things he couldn't be brave enough to do so, he thought as he kissed Sanghyuk again on the lips. Nothing could be more perfect than this.
