Forty five

“Oppa, I want chips” he sighed. The bus was supposed to be there in around ten minutes, the trip to the market and back would take around ten minutes, unless he sprints, he really didn’t want to sprint, not at 3 am.
They were waiting for the bus back to Seoul. The original line they were supposed to take at 8 pm got delayed so they had to wait for a second bus. One of the obstacles of small villages was the unreliable timing of transportation. He wasn’t pessimistic but he didn’t believe the bus was getting there anytime soon. He didn’t want to tell her that.
“We’ll get home in two hours baby”
“But I’m hungry” she pouted.
While her whining easily got on his nerves this early in the…night, he fully understood. She was very tired, they both were. He knew she must be feeling tense and cold. They were waiting in the bus station, surrounded by strangers.
“The bus is supposed to be here soon, love. We can’t go to the market now” she nodded; he could tell she was dismayed.
“Can we have a walk then oppa?”
“Baby…”
“I really don’t feel comfortable here oppa” she bit her lip and gestured at a small group of men sitting a few seats away from them. He could smell the alcohol.
He offered his hand and she instantly stood up to take it. “Let’s have a stroll then” she nodded.
He slowly walked with her along the empty pavement, allowing her to stretch a bit. “I’m sorry”
She turned to look in his direction, her eyebrows rose. “It’s not your fault oppa” she gave him a soft smile. “The bus won’t arrive will it?” she obviously figured out what was going through his head.
“I don’t think it will baby” he sighed. “Let’s just go to a hotel…” she cut him off with a kiss. She knew he tried his best to make everything special for her, it must have been expensive and he will have to do extra time at work to make up for the break he took, she knew he did all that for her and she was more than thankful. She also knew he was blaming himself right now for something beyond his control. It hurt her to see him so disappointed.
“It’s beautiful here at night” she pointed up at the stars above them. They rarely ever saw any stars in Seoul, the sight was beautiful.<
