okay so this is really late, but here's a simple tutorial on paths and font gradients! ^^

1. Choose your text in your desired font

2. Draw your path out with the path tool, (press “B” if you can’t find it) try to draw it longer than your font.

3. Go back to your font, and right click while still in typing mode “text along path”

4. Go ahead and delete your text

5. To see your text shape now, click on the “eye” in the paths section of your text path on the bottom right. Your design will appear in red. If you’re happy then proceed!

6. Now, select the design by clicking on the fourth button from the left (the red square) Unclick the eye to only see dotted lines

7. Now click on the gradient button and select your two colours. I picked a light blue and dark turquoise, making sure the dark colour appears below the lighter one.

8. Drag your cursor (now a plus sign) from the top to the bottom, and tadaa! Your get your gradient!

9. Another way to do this is to use a brush with feathered edges and just colour in however you want. This produces a different effect and the gradient is less smooth, but the two colours more obvious.

10. Shift+Ctrl+A and you get your design! (: Play around to get other effects as well. These below were coloured instead of using the gradient tool:
