Morning Conversations

The Last Chance

He placed his elbows on the desk and stared grimly at the screen.

"Now this is really some ", he grumbled.

"Once you manage to put some effort into your work and want to be productive, even nice, and of course noting wants to work out properly." He tossed the biro at the screen and watched it fall onto the keys of the keyboard and leave a small notch.

"Bugger", he just answered.

He turned around in his executive chair and looked around in his room. The bed wasn't made, the book shelves with those huge tomes could also need some cleaning and a spider creeped over his carelessly dicarded socks in the corner. Without hesitation he took the pencil into his hands and threw it in the animal's direction which immediately accelerated in its pace and disappeared behind the wardrobe.

"I'll get you one day, just wait for it", he said and was startled mentally when hearing the croak in his usually deep voice. He looked out of the window for several seconds and squinched the eyes as a response to the bright sunlight which fell onto the roofs of the city and was reflected with great force. The pattern of the geometrical forms of the tall buildings continued just to the horizon, where they were displaced by some impressive mountains.

Finally averting the gaze, he reached for the handle of a big drawer of his desk und pulled it. Besides some documents tightly rolled together, old pencils and other unuseful stuff he found several bottles with high-proof content. One had a crystal-like appeareance and the liquid it contained had the deep colour of amber which he would surely describe as his favourite one.

If someone asked, that is.

And if he had to be honest.

These thoughts let a small smile appear on his face which had some certainly attractive features. Not that it was necessary in his buisness - but no one really knows, what today's youth wreaked and how far all these young adolescent stupidities led. However, it couldn't really do some damage to have a certain amount of attractivity.

He blowed into the glass which stood also on his desk and poured a generous amount of Whisky into it. Leaning back, he took a deep, famished gulp and examined the first bunch of words from the report which was due tomorrow morning.

Report for the measure with the refering job number 2773XY

Subject has been identified successfully and-

That was it.

The typing of these few words caused such an exhaustion for Yongguk that he had to reach for the Whisky bottle early in the morning and curse the damn bright sun which has been doing its work outside for two full hours now. Thinking of the fact that he tossed around on his bed the whole night anyways and finally did it to an extent where he hit his arm very hard at the wooden edge of his bed and thought he breaked some bones. With curses on his lips he had gotten up and straight to work.

I don't know what I was thinking. My humor is getting worse.

His toughts were disturbed by the vibration of his mobile on his bed. Putting down the glass, he lazily stood up and snatched the burdensome thing.

"What?"

"Is this the way you greet your wife? If this is the case then not for a long time from now on because if you dare to answer like this again  I will get her head cut off on a bright day and on a heavily trafficked road and let it be put in a nice box and infront of your apartment door." The man on the other side of the line rattled his menace off like this and sounded quite annoyed.

"Oh, I think I have to disappoint you. Not because I don't have a wife but because I know your rat visage too well for you to show up here. And let's be honest here. There can't be a thing which is more unsatifying than to pass such a sweet mission over to some cretins of henchmen just because one doesn't have the balls to do it himself and is too afraid to even ring the door and to run away." Yongguk took a sip from his glass and was pretty amused.

"Listen, you little... I will pay you back. I'm calling to announce an ultimatum. If you are not going to appear at the office with the data by tomorrow night you will have to prepare for some" Yongguk could practically see his obnoxious face his trembling upper lip in a obscene gesture "torture." He giggled disparaging in order to underline his speech.

"But unfortunately there is a little problem with your oh so menacing threat which really makes my knees go weak." He had a big grin on his face while waiting for a response from the other side of the line.

"And which one should that be?"

"It's not your ultimatum but that of our boss. You should not forget that you are still inferior to him and additionally his dirty little henchman, even if you have several of this kind on your own. And wait, now I remember another thing", he did a short dramatic pause where he downed a slug. "All lines are under his observation, you should know that. And I think that he likes what I was saying."

"WHAT, YOU" He was not able to continue, as Yongguk ended the call and threw the phone back onto his bed, laughing. It will never grow boring to provoke that little er. He wanted to bring his beverage back to his attention but remained still, his lips hovering above the edge of the glass when the phone started vibrating again.

"Has he suddenly grown some balls and wants to give me a piece of his mind now or what", he mumbled while reaching for the thing again and looking at the caller-ID. With creased forehead he took the call.

"Hello?"

"Oh, er...", responsed a boyish vioce in hesitation and undoubtedly startled.

"Hi. I was not sure whether this was the right number or not because I was told that you have two and you use one of them more frequently than the other and I was not sure and this is why-" He took a deep breath. "I am calling."

"Wait", said Yongguk in the first moment of silence.

"You are calling to tell me this?" He twisted his mouth into a mocking grin and got a surpressed, panicking sound as a response.

"I...naaah,haha, of course not!" He cuckled nervously while Yongguk was pretty amused about his reaction. He loved to put people off their stride and usually used his intimidating appearance first and practically at the same time his eloquent skills to do so.Yes, sometimes he was really smug when it comes to his skills. He indulged in another shot and noticed that there was only a limited amount of alcohol covering the botton of his glass. It seemed to be of a much lighter colour now, as it gets less. He liked this tone as well.

"Hmm and why did you then?", he retorted calmly. Calm and rejecting, this is how he is most of the time.

"Uhm so... Yeah, I remember now!" He waited patiently and resisted the urge to roll his eyes in annoyance.

"You are going to appear at the training today as usual, don't you?" Yongguk looked at the computer screen. The cursor at the end of his last typed word was blinking accusingly.

"Sure, sure." He turned his back into its direction and looked at his bed instead.

One could assume that there was not only one person lying in it. He shaked the thought aways.

"Really? The others will be happy to hear. I'll tell Zelo, he has really missed you. And by the way, the choreographer..." He sounded a bit inhibited.

"What?"

"To be honest, he was a bit... upset with you for not being there the previous times. Actually, he was really dead angry...", he retorted and his voive sounded pleading, as if he were the bearer of a terrible message and had to fear the punches of the upset addressee.

"Jongup?"

"Yeah?", he responsed eagerly.

"Tell him that it interests me a whatever he is upset about or not. If it doesn't fit into his plans he can still kick me out. But we both know that he will never do this." He fixed his gaze onto a piece of dust falling down from the ceiling. "And he knows this, too", he added.

"I don't know whether this is a good idea, Hyung."

"I told you to do so. So?"

"I'll do it, Hyung", was the unassertive answer.

He sighed. "Okay, so... You are in the training room, I guess?"

"You know me." This nerd.

"Do you want to take a break and tell me about Zelo's new findings at a nice breakfast?" He turned the glass in his hands and examined the moving lights.

"Actually..."

"Not that I am forcing you." Ha, please.

A short hissing and a crackle was heard, as if the person had taken the phone into the other hand and shortly after there was a low sigh.

"Okay, but I have to ask for the key to the building to be able to lock it again. Same meeting point as always?"

"Same as always", Yongguk responsed satified and ended the call.

He stood up, put the beverage consequently away and checked the blinking numbers on his alarm clock. It was 8:30 am and some people were already active as the birds in spring. He shook the head about these thoughs which didn't really fit to the composed person he was.
