The handsome barista began making the order as requested. First day on the job and for some reason he was alone, a sick colleague, or maybe the death of someone's relative, he didn't ask. It didn't matter. He pressed the noticeable green button and the hot liquid poured into the cup. Add a little sugar, some caramel drizzle, and serve. One order down, countless more to go. He repeated this process many more times for the next few hours, slightly tailoring the routine to serve each customer's liking-whether it be hazelnut instead of caramel, or soy milk instead of creamer. By around two in the afternoon, the flow of exhausted, zombie-like college students craving for energy and disconnected businessmen and women with their ironed suits thirsting for caffeine had slowed down. The instant he sat down to peak at his phone, another customer walked in.
