A Look into the Past
Thief He sighed. ' Woohyun, what are you gonna do? ' he thought and an internal conflict started. It's not like Woohyun wanted to be a thief. It's not his fault that
money runs everything. Money. The thing that he needs. Money. Life of a thief, he never wanted it. However, being that kid who lives on the street with no
money and seeing your brother slowly suffer is worse. His brother, his dongseng, Hyun Jo, was sick. Hyun Jo had cancer and his sister was... his mother
should die.
Woohyun, Hyun Jo, and Hyun Mi were obedient kids. They listen to their mother no matter what - even when it was wrong. Woohyun still remembered the
first time he stole something. It was a bag. He was only 11 and it stained him more than anything. He can still remember Hyun Mi, his beautiful sister. She
was only 4 and a bright kid. She was energetic and aegyo filled. He still remember everything. How she died, how she look, and how she laid lifelessly. It
was the 3rd week ever since their mom left them. She told them to not go outside. She said she was leaving only for a few days, but she never came back. It
was cold, it was winter and there was no air conditioning. The food ran out. Woohyun was holding his siblings with only some sheets covering them. Teeth
chattering and their stomach was screaming.
" Oppa, " Hyun Mi let out lifelessly. She had dark circles and she lost her shine. Her face was skinny and her eyes slowly close. Woohyun and Hyun Woo
scream and shook her, but she never woke up. The lifeless look that she gave them, Woohyun remembers. Hyun Jo cried and suddenly he coughed -
blood. Woohyun could not, he tried to deny it all. His sister died and now his brother was coughing out blood. Woohyun ran out. He desperately ran and ask
for people's help. No - no one helped. They all shrugged his away. Dirty they said. He felt a tap on his shoulder.
" Hello, can I help you? " she asked. She was a little girl. Woohyun burst out crying and the little girl's eyes widen.
" My brother's dying, " Woohyun said. She grabbed his hand and they ran to Woohyun's place.
" We have to take him to the hospital, " she said. He didn't know what that was. He didn't go to school. He had no education. He carried Hyun Jo on his
back and she led him. They finally got to the hospital and Hyun Woo was fine. The doctor told Woohyun, Hyun Jo has cancer and Woohyun cried. Even
though, he never went to school, he knew what cancer was. The little girl hugged him and he continued crying. Hyun Jo, his brother, is only 6 and he has
cancer. ' What if he dies? ' Woohyun thought. The doctor came back and ask Woohyun about his parents. Woohyun replied that they weren't with him. The
doctor's attitude immeadiately change.
" What? Who's gonna pay the bills? Get out, " the doctor yelled. Woohyun immediately went to his knees.
" I promise. I promise I will pay and work. Please let my brother stay here, " Woohyun begged. The little girl kneeled next to him.
" Please help him. I'll work and do anything. Please help his brother, " she said and tears flowed down her face. Woohyun looked at her. ' Why would she
help me? ' he thought.
" Anything? Fine, " the doctor said. He took out a contract and they sign it. Woohyun and the girl walked out.
" I'm Woohyun. What's your name? " Woohyun asked.
" Sunny, " she said and she smiled.
" Why are you helping me? " he asked. Sunny looked down.
" Cause I know how it feels, " she said quietly. Woohyun tried to change the subject, sensing the sad atmosphere.
" How old are you? " he asked.
" 11, " she said and, once again,her smile laid back on her face.
" Me too, " Woohyun said.
" Let's be best friends, " she said. Woohyun nodded and they became best friends. Days later, they started working. Woohyun carried stuff at a small shop
while Sunny sold newspaper. Even though, they were both working they only earned 50,000 a week. Sunny stayed at Woohyun's place and Hyun Mi was
buried after a day she died. The money they earned though, was barely enough after food. They had to continue working.
5 years passed and Woohyun was older. He was stronger than most boys. He worked at construction places and Sunny worked at a restaurant. They
earned a little more - 65,000 won. However their debt was still there.
" Oppa, I'm back, " Sunny said. Woohyun smiled and handed her a bowl or rice.
" How was work? " Woohyun ask as they sat down.
" Fine, " Sunny said as she grabbed her chopsticks. Sunny has been coming home a little late though. Woohyun frowned.
" Ya! Sunny, why are you coming home so late though? " Woohyun yelled.
" Oppa, the restaurant has been getting more customers, " Sunny cooed cutely. Woohyun pouted.
They finally finished eating and they were getting ready for bed. " Sunny, " Woohyun said.
" Yes, " Sunny said as she laid next to him. Sunny and Woohyun had slept together for years. When Sunny had her first night over at Woohyun's, she
demanded to sleep with him. Woohyun was uncomfortable, but he gradually got use to it.
" You never told me about your past, " Woohyun said.
" Tell me, " he said as he wrapped his arms around her.
Sunny bit her lips. " I'm an orphan, " she said. Woohyun laid his chin on her head and she rubbed her back soothingly.
" My sister...died like yours, but instead...she got ran over...right in front of me" Sunny said weakly. Woohyun look down at her to find her eyes filled with
tears.
" No one helped. No one. I saw myself when I first saw you. Exactly the same. Me running around for help, but no help was found. That's why I decided to
help you, " Sunny said as her tears continued to flow. Woohyun hugged her tighter and they slowly fell asleep.
The next day, they went to visit Hyun Jo. Hyun Jo looked at them excitedly.
" Hyung~ " he cooed as he ran to hug Woohyun. Woohyun chuckled. Hyun Jo's attention then switched to Sunny. A bigger smile took his face and he ran to engulf her
in a bigger hug.
" Noona~ " he cooed, but with even more aegyo. Sunny melted and her smile grew bigger.
" Aigoo Hyun Jo. Noona missed you so much, " Sunny said with aegyo back. Woohyun smiled seeing them talk to each other like kindergartners.
The doctor walked in and his son was there. Woohyun hated his son. " Dr. Chu " was always trying to touch Sunny.
" Why, hello Woohyun and Sunny, " he, " Dr. Chu ", said. " Dr. Chu " was actually Chu Hong, but he demanded to be called " Dr. Chu ". Sunny bowed slightly and
waved. Woohyun let out a hello. " Dr. Chu " went to Sunny and grabbed her hands intimately.
" So Sunny Bunny, how your feeling? " he cooed as rubbed her hands. She pulled away and replied with a fine. Woohyun stood there and sulked. Hyun Jo suddenly
ran to " Dr. Chu " and kicked him in the groin. Woohyun let out a smile and Sunny did too, but she quickly hid it. She ran to Hyun Jo and told him to say sorry. Hyun Jo
pouted shaking his head.
" I don't want to. I don't like Chu Hong, " he said. " Dr. Chu " look at him and yelled.
" YA I AM " Dr. Chu ", " he yelled and pointed at Hyun Jo. Hyun Jo turned his head the other way with his arms crossed.
" Ya~ Hyun Jo say sorry, " Sunny said as she ruffled Hyun Jo's hair. Hyun Jo looked at her and let out a sorry - right after he landed another blow at " Dr. Chu " 's groin. " Dr.
Chu " walked stormed out. Sunny ran after him. Hyun Jo crossed his arms and look the other way.
" Hyung, I don't like " Dr. Chu " ," he said.
" Me too, " Woohyun said.
" I know because you like Sunny noona, " Hyun Jo said and he did a mehrong pose.
" Ya! " Woohyun yelled playfully at Hyun Jo.
Woohyun and Sunny left and they went to work. Woohyun was carrying bricks and wood. He liked his job. It was hard, but the people were nice. Sunggyu saw
Woohyun and went to help him. Sunggyu, Myungsoo, and Dongwoo worked there and the four got along.
" Yo, Woohyun, tell me to help you next time, " Sunggyu said.
" Hyung, I didn't want to bother you, " Woohyun said and Sungyu shook his head.
" HEYYYY, " Myungsoo yelled cheerfully as he walked in. Myungsoo was the youngest out of them and also the funniest and most clingy despite his cold looks.
" YA KIM MYUNGSOO WAIT FOR ME, " Dongwoo yelled entering a second after Myungsoo. Myungsoo stuck out his tongue and hugged Woohyun.
" Hyung, Dongwoo is bullying me, " Myungsoo said to Woohyun. Dongwoo turned red.
" YA! " Dongwoo yelled as they all chuckled.
Sunggyu was the oldest and he was, of course, the most matured one. Sunggyu was an orphan and he just worked to live. He never knew who his parents were.
While Dongwoo was the second oldest and he had a playful attitude. Dongwoo was kicked out of home and he worked for him and his pregnant girlfriend. Myungsoo,
the maknae was working for his younger sister who was in school after their parents died in a car accident. Woohyun was grateful for having them as friends.
" OPPA~ " a voice cooed. Sunny walked in and Myungsoo immediately ran to her. Myungsoo loved Sunny because she was bright and cheerful just like his sister. He
hugged her tightly as they all went to hug her.
" I thought you work today, " Woohyun said.
" I wanted to surprise you, " she said and grinned cheekily. Woohyun smiled and his friends threw each other knowingly glances.
" I made yall lunch, " she said and she handed each of then a lunchbox. For Sunggyu, she made him kimchi fried rice and a fried egg. He smiled at her and thank her.
For Dongwoo, she made him beef cutlet rice, which is his favorite. He took it happily and hugged her tightly.
" YA! YOU HAVE A PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND! " Sunggyu yelled at Dongwoo.
" IT'S A HUG. CALM DOWN, " Dongwoo shouted back.
" What about me noona? " Myungsoo asked Sunny as he jumped up and down.
" I forgot, " Sunny said. Myungsoo's mouth dropped and he stopped jumping.
" Jk~ " Sunny cooed. She pulled out a thermos with kimchi stew in it. Myungsoo's face brighten and he hugged her tightly. He mischievously gave her a peck on a
cheek and Woohyun glared at him. Sunny, then pulled out Woohyun's lunchbox to distract him from ripping Myungsoo's head off. He lightly smiled and opened the
lunchbox to reveal tuna sushi. Sunny made all of them their favorite food. They all ate eagerly and happily. Sunny sat down and looked at them. She was content with
her life. She has to admit she loved Myungsoo the most out of Woohyun's friends. Sunny had a soft spot for cute guys. Woohyun, then stood up.
" Hey guys, imma leave early. Tell boss for me, " Woohyun said. His friends nod and waved goodbye.
" Oppa, you didn't have to do that, " Sunny said, but she was secretly happy.
" We have to go shop for clothes. You're always wearing the same clothes, " he said as he dragged her to a store.
" Oppa, nooooo, " Sunny said dramatically. He pulled her in and look through the rack for clothes. Sunny sighed in defeat. His eyes brighten when he saw a cute
shirt. He handed to her and made her hold it as Sunny groaned. Sunny hated shopping for herself. His eyes scanned around and his attention landed on a cute
dress. Sunny hated dresses, but he was sure it will look great on her. He pointed at the dress and Sunny shook her head frantically. Woohyun bought the dress and
the few outfits as Sunny scowled. Woohyun walked out as Sunny crossed her hands. Woohyun chuckled and grabbed her hand. Sunny then brighten when she
thought of something. It was Woohyun's turn. She smiled brightly and ran off. Woohyun looked at her and smiled too.
They checked the time and it was only 4. Sunny wanted to visit Dongwoo, Sunggyu, and Myungsoo. Woohyun agreed since he felt bad for going off work which
equals more work for them. Woohyun's face brighten up when he thought of an idea.
" Hey Sunny, you should wear the dress, " Woohyun said. Sunny immeadiately shook her head.
" Come on, it would really surprise them, " he said. Sunny blew a raspberry in defeat. Sunny ran in the house. She put on the dress and pulled her hair out of the
ponytail. She slipped on her flats and ran out. Woohyun was looking around. When he finally notice her, his face soften. ' She looks amazing, ' he thought. They made
their way to Woohyun's workplace.
" Oppa, Dongwoo, Myungsoo-ah, " Sunny cooed as she skipped to them. They saw her skip in and gwaked. They never seen her wore a dress before. Sunny
waved her hands in front of them as they snapped out of it.
" Noona, you really look cute, " Myungsoo chirped as he pulled her in for a hug. Myungsoo has always been a clingy guy like Sunny. Sunny laughed and hugged him
back. She was comfortable with it. Dongwoo and Sunggyu looked at Woohyun, who was burning up, and laughed.
" We know you like Sunny, " they cooed at Woohyun. Woohyun turned bright red and he couldn't hide his shy smile. Myungsoo and Sunny were just on the side being
clingy to each other. They saw each other like siblings and they were very alike. Woohyun looked back at them and continued to frown as the DongGyu duo continue
to , making him turn even brighter.
" Sunny and Woohyun sitting in the tree. K.I.S.S.I.N.G. " they sang. Sunny overheard and she, too, turned red. Myungsoo notice her red cheeks and he smiled.
Myungsoo picked her up bridal style and pretend to throw her at Woohyun. Woohyun eyes enlarged as Myungsoo laid Sunny on Woohyun's back, making Woohyun
carry her on his back. His friends looked at him mischievously. Woohyun glared at them playfully while Sunny was blushing madly. Myungsoo, Sunggyu, and Dongwoo
chuckled, pleased with their work.
