Foreword

Junhyung stepped out of the bedroom, empty can of Coke in his hand. As he walked to the kitchen, he noticed Yoseob lying down on the living room floor, staring up at the ceiling light. Junhyung shrugged and proceeded to the trash bin to throw his finished drink, and then to the refrigerator to get a new one. He peered into the fridge and sighed. “No more Coke?” he muttered sadly and decided in his head that he’d just buy more the next time he went out. He swung the fridge door closed and walked back to the bedroom, where he could hear Kikwang and Doojoon screaming at each other, and Hyunseung and Dongwoon laughing loudly. As he passed by the living room, he looked at Yoseob. The four boys were having fun in the bedroom and this boy was just staring here. “Yoseob,” Junhyung called, but he didn’t flinch. “Yoseob!” A smile came upon Yoseob’s face, but the blank expression in his eyes remained. He didn’t take notice of Junhyung. “Yoseob-ah!” Junhyung trudged toward him and bent over him, blocking the boy’s view of the light. “What in the world are you doing?” The smile on Yoseob’s face dropped and he blinked a few times.

Upon seeing Junhyung, he smiled again. “Oh, hi hyung! I didn’t notice you there.” Junhyung rolled his eyes and plopped down on the floor beside him. Yoseob bent his arms and placed both his hands under his head. “What’s up, hyung?” “What’s up with you? You’re just staring there.” The boy shrugged. “Just spacing out.” Junhyung nodded and chuckled. They were silent for a minute, then he noticed Yoseob drifting back to space-out mode. He pulled the boy closer to him, until Yoseob’s head was resting on his lap. The boy smiled up at him for a while then closed his eyes. Later on a smile appeared on his face again. “What do you think about when you space out?” Junhyung whispered, tangling his fingers in Yoseob’s soft hair. With his eyes still closed, Yoseob knit his eyebrows together in thought.

“It’s spacing out, you don’t think about anything when you’re spacing out.” He chuckled. “Then before you reach spacing out, what do you think of?” Junhyung didn’t know why, but he really wanted to know. He wanted to know what went on in this boy’s head when he wasn’t jumping around, laughing, or joking and smiling. “Stuff,” Yoseob answered. “Stuff like… us, Beast. Stuff like the B2uties. Stuff like our albums and promotions. Stuff like my family and friends and well… stuff.” Junhyung nodded, a little bit disappointed. If that’s all Yoseob thought about, then there wasn’t much going on in his head, then? “Recently I found this website where people write fanfiction —I think that’s what it’s called—or fanfics for short. It’s fun to read.” He laughed softly.

“What do you read about? Aren’t those things filled with OTPs and stuff?” “Yep. They’re not bad. Some of the writers include fictional people, like girls that the idols meet in school, or in the park, or during some incident or whatever. It’s funny.” “Tell me the truth: have you searched yourself in that website?” Junhyung smirked. A pink color rushed to Yoseob’s cheeks and he smiled guiltily. “Yes, I have.” “So, what’s written about you in there?” “Mostly pairings between us in the group. They have things called DooSeob and KiSeob.” He laughed again. “Doojoon and Kikwang?” “Yeah.” “That’s it?” Junhyung said curiously, trying to make his question sound casual.

“There’s JunSeob, if you want to read it.” Yoseob opened his eyes and looked straight at him. Junhyung blushed and leaned back so Yoseob wouldn’t see it. Yoseob just chuckled and then closed his eyes again, turning to his side. Junhyung leaned forward again and continued to play with the boy’s hair. “Do you think about those fanfics, too, before spacing out?” “Mmm, yeah.” “Which ones do you think about the most?” Yoseob’s lips twitched, then he chuckled and smiled. “JunSeob,” he whispered and shut his eyes tighter. Junhyung’s fingers froze and he stared at Yoseob, whose cheeks were pinker than ever and his smile as playful as can be. He found himself grinning at the thought of Yoseob thinking of them, JunSeob, and of him, Junhyung. He decided to question Yoseob then and there. “So before you reach space-out mode, do you think about me?” Yoseob bit his lip to keep it from pulling up into a wider smile. “Yeah,” he said softly. And that was all Junhyung needed to hear. He bent down and leaned on the boy, resting his head on Yoseob’s shoulder.
