An Unintentional Hero

[Daehyun/Youngjae]

All Daehyun has going for him is a sullen expression, a dark complexion, a Busan accent, an uncanny ability to stare people down, a voice that can go an octave too low when he wants and an inhuman appetite for food. Okay, so maybe the last quality has nothing to do with the fact that Daehyun gets labelled a "thug" as soon as he transfers to TS High in the middle of the school year. Wait a minute. No, the most important fact is that Daehyun transfers to TS High in the middle of the school year. Which only happens if you are kicked out of your old school. Which only happens if you are a thug.

Or so the fraternity of TS High believes.

Really, all Daehyun was doing when Youngjae darted past the kitchen door (his pursuer in tow) was escaping with a boxful of cheesecake left over from lunch. And he just happened to throw open the door at the exact time Kim Himchan ran into it and was knocked out cold, thus saving Yoo Youngjae from a potentially painful death at the hands of his tormentor.

"Hey!"

Daehyun looks up from his Geography textbook. Oh God. He is here again.

Labouring under the delusion that Jung Daehyun is his saviour in the mortal world, the bumbling school nerd Yoo Youngjae has taken to following him as faithfully as a sheep its shepherd. Kim Himchan had searched for his antagonist with a vengeance but backed down when he found it was Jung Daehyun who had "rescued" Youngjae from him. And even if he is a senior, Himchan thinks twice - and decides he is better off not having Daehyun as an enemy.

As he looks up at Youngjae, Daehyun nods, trying to smile and hopes it doesn't come off too constipated. "Hey."

Youngjae warrants it as invitation enough to plop down on the seat next to Daehyun's and carefully places his stack of books, notebooks and a Rugrats pencil case in front of him.

"Really thank you for the other day," Youngjae says for the umpteenth time. "Himchan-hyung can get really violent sometimes."
