Welcome Home

When she came home all of us were thrilled. We were so happy she was okay. Her family had come to the dorm to check on her. We welcomed them with open arms. Her little brother was too cute for words and the way she looked up to his big sister touched us all.

After her family left the first instinct was to throw a party, but we knew better. The girls and I. We didn’t want her to overdo it and cause more problems to her health.

Of course, we still celebrated. Though a party isn’t what most would consider our celebration. We watched old dramas, ate ice cream, talked, laughed and ate some more. We stayed up well after what we had expected to. It was 3AM and Hyunah finally admitted to feeling sleepy.

The five of us said our goodnights, Jihyun, Gayoon, and Sohyun all going to their room. I sighed in relief and smiled as I followed her into our room.

“Hyunah, are you sure you’re okay?”  I looked at her worriedly as she pulled her pants down. I knew she’d been hearing it a lot, but I couldn’t help myself. She was an incredible woman. 

She turned around and gave me a genuine smile, it lit up my entire world. “I’m fine Jiyoonit.”

I couldn’t help but smile back, but the smile faded as I thought about how soon she’d have to go back to practicing for the new album. “It’s just, I’m worried, because you’ll have to go back so soon and-” She took a playful step forward and grabbed my hands in hers. “It’s not the first time, I’ve had something  like this happen to me. I can handle it.”

She seemed so strong, but I couldn’t help but worry. Even after she’d long fallen asleep I thought about her. The touch had caused my heart to flutter and my mind to go blank. Staring at the dark ceiling I sighed. I’d long since accepted my feelings as natural, but what about her? She’d always be my friend, I knew that, but could she ever think about me as more? I shook my head in an attempt to remove those thoughts from my head. “Get a grip, Jiyoon. Hyunah will only ever think of you as a friend.” I thought, yet my body wouldn’t listen.

Almost as though I was possessed I got of bed and walked over to her. Each step, though in reality very silent seemed to hit the floor like thunder. I prayed that she didn’t wake up, yet in my heart I knew I wanted her to. I stood over her and watched as she slept for what seemed like a wondrous eternity. She looked even more beautiful now.

Slowly I leaned down and gave her lips a gentle kiss.

“Welcome home, Hyunah…”
