Yeongju Station

Yeongju Station

It was another lazy day and Mingyu got up from bed and fixed his self. He let out a long sigh as he walked out from the house, heading to Gangneung Station. Sure enough, the place was already overflowing with busy people, chattering here and there.

This place is always a mess.

He huff out yet another tiring groan before entering the train. The ride itself wasn't enjoyable neither as the train is jammed. Whenever it stops or goes, people tend to push one another because of force. Mingyu, unlucky as always, ends up in the middle with no access to poles or any support that he can hold into. So when the train moves, he'll sway here and there and accidentally pushing the surrounding masses everywhere, earning him a glare.

"Yeongju Station. Yeongju Station."

When Mingyu heard the announcement, his mood brightened up. A bit. At last, he can get out from this cage of hell. He pushes through the crowd and ignore the deathly stares directed at him. Not his fault.

He passed infront of the waiting lounge and saw the boy again, sitting at the same place and still wearing the same clothes.

Maybe it's his uniform. Mingyu assumes.

Truthfully, he's been noticing that boy lately. For the past few weeks, Mingyu always spots him, sitting at the same place with similar uniform. He also looks like he's waiting for someone. Mingyu's curious to say the least. But as of now, he shrugged it off and focused on the fact that he is already running late for work.

The next morning, Mingyu took the same route just like the other one he takes everyday. The same event happened, getting pushed and earning some glares. As he arrived at Yeongju Station, he quickly goes to the waiting area, and just as he expected, the boy is there. However, he's having second thoughts on whether he'll approach him or not. But today, fate maybe loves Mingyu and gave him a chance as the boy stood up and suddenly tripped over a bag. Taking the chance, Mingyu hastily approaches the boy and helped him up.

"Are you okay?" Mingyu asked and got irritated as his voice unattractively croaked.

"Yeah. Thanks." The boy replied.

"No problem. It's just that, I've always seen you here, at the same place and time." Mingyu honestly confessed to the boy. But he regretted it a bit as he soon realized that he sounded like a stalker and the boy will mistook him as one. Oh Mingyu.

"Maybe it's not me. I rarely ride trains. You have mistaken me for someone else." The boy explained.

"Oh. Is that so? Anyways, who are you waiting?"

"My bestfriend." The other simply replied. Mingyu nodded. He doesn't know what to say anymore, but then, he remembered.

"By the way, I'm Mingyu." he introduced.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Wonwoo."

Wonwoo, huh?

"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Wonwoo." Mingyu smiled. "Anyways, I have to go now. I'm late. See you."

"Bye." and they waved to each other.

Mingyu got home and he was dead tired, but all was forgotten when he remembered their first awkward yet memorable conversation with Wonwoo. At last, after weeks and weeks of observing stalking Wonwoo, finally he already knew his name and held a formal conversation. With only this experience, Mingyu's feeling bursted and right away, Mingyu knew that he feels something special towards Wonwoo. He then decided to ask him out and eat dinner with him. He knows that it's too early, but he's not in a rush. No, not all. It's just that, he's too excited in getting to know Wonwoo better.

"Tomorrow. I will ask him tomorrow."

Mingyu woke up to the obnoxious buzzing of him alarm clock. He got up and checked the time.

Oh damn!

It was already 1 in the afternoon, however he isn't worried that he'll be late, in fact he's worried that maybe Wonwoo had already left. Sure enough when he arrived at the station, Wonwoo is nowhere to be seen. Mingyu clicked his tongue and cursed his self for being a lazy idiot. He made a promise that he will really do it tomorrow.

"Yeongju Station. Yeongju Station."

Mingyu rushed outside the train. It was still 8 in the morning and he has no work today but he arrived early just to meet Wonwoo. He then headed to where he usually finds the other boy and luckily he was there. Sitting, wearing the same clothes and always looks like he is waiting for someone. Mingyu smiled at Wonwoo while approaching him but Wonwoo didn't return the smile. He shrugged, deciding to just ignore it.

"So you're waiting for someone again?" Mingyu joked but Wonwoo again didn't make a move and only stared at him.

"Anyways, do you want to have dinner with me?" he mustered up all of his courage if there are any left. But once again, not a single word did Wonwoo utter.

"I mean of course, it's my treat. I know it's too sudden, but you don't have to worry." Mingyu reassured, hoping desperately for an answer. And he got an answer alright.

"Who are you?"

Mingyu was taken aback. He didn't expect this, considering the fact that they had just met only two days ago.

"I'm Mingyu. The one who helped you back then when you tripped here."

"I'm sorry. But I think you have mistaken me for someone."

Mingyu already heard that answer before.

Deja Vu.

"No. I'm sure it was you. I've s seen you sitting here, like everyday."

"You're wrong. I rarely ride trains. So it's not me." Wonwoo argued.

Deja Vu.

"Come on Wonwoo. Stop joking. I know you remembered. And I want to take you to dinner because I want to know you more. I feel something special about you Wonwoo, ever since I saw you. I wish to know you better. Maybe, I like -"

Mingyu was cut off. "How do you know my name?"

Mingyu's eyes widened, but before he can argue back, a middle-aged woman approached them.

"Mom! What are you doing here?" Wonwoo asked, surprise.

"Wonwoo, let's go home. And you..." she turned to Mingyu. "... who are you?"

"I'm Mingyu, I helped him when he tripped here a few days ago." Mingyu calmly answered despite being annoyed of introducing his self.

"I see. But I'm sorry, dear." she apologized.

"Huh? Why?" Mingyu asked. Confusion visible on his face.

"Wonwoo has Anterograde Amnesia. Everyday, his memories are being erased."

----------

Vocabulary:

  • Anterograde Amnesiais a loss of the ability to create new memories after the event that caused the amnesia, leading to a partial or complete inability to recall the recent past, while long-term memories from before the event remain intact.
