Chapter 1

Destiny

She wandered into the open room, basking in its vastness, the sparklingly clean tiled floors gleaming back up at her. The ceiling was covered in a yellowish-white colour that slightly matched her dress, except for the sweeping red lattice pattern on the upper part of the dress. She could smell the freshness of the room, but strangely could also smell something alike to smoke. Looking closer at the walls, she noticed there was a huge tapestry, brown from wear and washing but colours not completely gone, just dulled. She walked along it, her hand trailing just behind and feeling the soft cotton. Looking at the pictures she saw a series of slides, one with someone on a horse, winning a fight. Another had a boy in blue, sowing with his wavy brown hair swept sideways over his forehead and an indistinguishable figure in the background. She walked on, her hand stopping on a piece of the tapestry she mistakenly flicked over. Reversing her steps, she peered closely, noticing the wool was unravelling over time on that place. Looking above, her eyes widened almost comically, if not for the grave situation. On the tapestry, there was an intricate stitching of a woman in a white dress, with red lattice in a room. The next bit was a completely dark square. She looked up with the idea to run just as the lights went out.

Another place, another time a little boy was being praised. He had always been praised for his good looks and his cunning demeanour, but to people this was the thing that topped all. He had just predicted where the enemy lagoons were going to go. No-one usually listens to little boys, but this little boy was an exception. Even before he showed her talent at, basically, everything, he walked in a way that radiated authority, which made people cower back and think they were lower. By the age of five he managed to convince her nanny that she was magically gifted. Although people were still intimidated, some had learned his tactics, although not completely. They had learned to cope with him, each in their own individual ways.

The certain person that he was talking to at the moment had managed to convince himself that he wasn’t even there.

He could see him looking just over the top of his head as though he didn’t exist, and even when he patted his head (patronisingly Sehun would hasten to add) he was looking to a spot in the distance, Sehun would guess, a tiny snail on top of a branch. Smiling sweetly (but definitely threateningly, to anyone who had been around any children, or people in their life) he lifted the greasy, sweaty, absolutely disgusting hand off his head.

What brings you to us today? He asked, eyes boring into the poor man’s soul

“What us?” the man shivered, Sehun always talked in a way that sounded as if he was possessed.

Sehun smiled even wider, his eyes creasing into crescent moons. Everyone knows who us is. Forgotten already, have you? Want me to explain it to you again?

Even though Sehun was considerably shorter than the man, the man still felt he was being mocked, and looked down upon. He adjusted his hat which signalled him as the mayor.

“Sehun, you are very clever, but someone needs to address this problem you have. Do you invent people to make yourself seem as you are not alone?”

Anyone watching may have mistakenly assumed the mayor was concerned about a sweet little boy.

But Sehun knew the truth. Concerned? Please, this man was mocking him, trying to take cheap shots in an attempt to get the higher ground.  Futile, as Sehun would say.

He turned and walked away as if the mayor had never said that. Then Sehun turned round again and looked back with narrowed eyes.

Worthless scum like you try to insinuate that we are crazy, but you are just blind. Remember, there are two sides of a coin. And if I am seeing your face up side, I dread to think what may be on the darker one.

The little boy left the mayor wondering if a little boy had just insulted him and given him a profound philosophical statement at the same time.

Sehun walked up to the mirror and put his hand on it. He closed his eyes shut tight, imagining the petite, pretty face and golden honey hair.

Hello Sehunnie, are you doing well? When he opened his eyes the angelic little boy was standing across in the mirror, clad in red.

How ironic. Sehun was the evil one yet he was clad in blue and the most angelic human being (if this was true, Sehun had not completely found out yet) Sehun had ever met was dressed in red.

I can’t be mad, Sehun thought to himself, I cannot have everyone bend under my stare, yet make up a little boy in my imagination. It simply is not done.

Because that is what the world was to Sehun, a rubiks cube. Seems impossibly difficult, but once you work out the formula, it only requires the mental process. Sehun always also tried to beat his time on how predictable people would get.

I have had a talk with the people around me, so inevitably, no.

Aww, Sehunnie, a talk with the mayor always gets you in this bad a mood, is was him wasn’t it?

Luhan squished his face to the mirror, so the tip of his nose became a rounded blob on the mirror.

Yes. The idiot was trying to insinuate I should be locked up in a mental hospital.

Did you say we again? I said you weren’t complete without me, but it was in a different way Hunny. If you go around like that, then no-one is going to like you.

Sehun took a step forward to the mirror, placing his hand on Luhan’s.

But even if I do not include you, how many others are there? That see through people’s stupidity? That have powers like ours? They must be part of me too then.

Luhan sighed You’re still not getting it. I am.. I am a part of you but… no-one else is really. There are others like us, and they might be our friends but they are not to me like you. We will always be stronger.

Sehun walked over to his bed and sat down, thouroughly confused.

Even if you have an IQ higher than 200 Sehunnie, I think you might take a loooooong time to get what I am talking about.

But if I don’t get what you know that means I am dumb does it?

Someday we’ll meet. Then you may understand.

When? Why do you always know more than me?

Sehun raised his voice in exasperation but the mirror misted over and he was only looking at his own annoyed expression.
