His heart beats slowly, but not slowly enough. He’s tired, but still wide-awake.

His eyes are closed, but he know what he will see if he opens them. Many of his supposed sleeping hours has been spent staring into the wall. His back toward the other occupants of the room, in case somebody should wake up and notice his open eyes.

Today is different though. His eyes are closed.

Maybe it’s because he has grown tired of staring at the same wall. Or maybe it’s because he finally did what he has been thinking of for so long today. Well, it’s already yesterday by now, his mind reminds him.

So in some ways he’s more relaxed. There isn’t any decision to take any longer, no conclusion to reach. However he still hasn’t gotten an answer, and it’s probably the dread of possible outcomes that’s keeping him awake this time.

He hears someone else shift behind him. Most likely it’s just someone just moving in their sleep … but it could be someone else that can’t sleep. Somebody that perhaps is thinking about an answer to give.

An answer he is anticipating with his entire being.

He doesn’t turn around and check though. His eyes are closed. His breath even. His body still. If somebody else is awake, they shouldn’t have any reason to suspect him of the same.

But now that someone behind him seems to be quite restless, moving around every few seconds. It’s not making sleep any easier for him; nonetheless there isn’t really anything he can do about it.  

Then a voice speaks up. Lowly, almost nothing more than a whisper. “Ren?” A little pause. “… are you asleep?”

And he knows that voice, knows it almost too well. It’s his favourite sound, but right now also his most hated. He wants to listen to it forever and never hear it again.

Who knows what message that voice will bring next?

“… that’s probably a stupid question. If you were asleep you wouldn’t answer, would you?”

He isn’t asleep, but he still doesn’t answer. His eyes are still closed. But is his breath even? Is his body still, or does it shake with anticipation?

He doesn’t really know, because his whole focus is on the sound of the person behind him. Just breathing right now, but perhaps he will raise his voice again. Say something. Maybe an answer.

“I couldn’t sleep, because I was thinking, you see.” It feels kind of good that for once he isn’t the only one with that problem.

“Thinking about what you said … thinking about you." Still it feels kind of bad; he doesn’t want the person he loves to … lose sleep, or feel bad, or think too much about stuff that possibly makes him unhappy.

But is still feels kind of good. That he isn’t alone with the problem anymore, that someone shares it with him.

“And I think that I actually …” but he stops there, not finishing. Not giving Ren the answer he’s waiting for.

So he opens his eyes and turns around. Their eyes meet.

“And I think that I actually feel the same way,” Baekho finishes.

AN: I know I said the next one was going to be longer, but I still haven't finished the one I actually inteded to post. Well, this isn't crack at least.

I couldn't sleep, so I wrote this.
