Life Just Happens

Description

We all get chances in life. We all get opportunities to do something in life. The differences in people are those who takepass, or act on those opportunities in their lives. Lives aren't perfect. They're messy, sloppy, confusing, troubling, invoking, happy, and happening. Things just happen, chances happen, life happens. All that we can do is try our best to make what we can of it and hope in the end when we look back on everything, it was all worth it. The bad, the good, each moment that we breathe.

Life isn't always easy, it isn't perfect, and most of the time it's messy. For Dayoung things didn't go right for a long time, things seemed to get worse before they got any better. Abandoned by her biological parents, adopted by a loving couple and forming a family only for that family to be taken away from her, all this before happening before she was even seven years-old. For Dayoung her last chance at happiness as a child came in the form of a at-risk program for children. Her saving grace being another family and another chance in life.

After Dayoung's rather long run of good luck after all the bad that had happened, things start happening again, things seem get worse with no light ahead. People start leaving but then again maybe things aren't so bad with someone new coming into her life.

Foreword

My run of bad luck seemed endless when I was a kid. My biological parents gave me up when I was three. My first memories are waiting for them to come back to get me. They never did come back. But, my parents did come, my real family, my second chance. They adopted me, took me home and loved me. Though this happy part of my life was brief.

I remember my dad getting offered a position and tenure at a university in Korea. I had absolutely no idea what that had meant, I was only five and happy. We moved to Korea, became naturalized, and lived there. My dad was a Literature Professor; at least that's what I'm told. My mother was a music major. But like I said my life with them was brief and as a child my luck never seemed to last long. About seven months after moving to Korea, I'd just turned six; my parents went out to celebrate their anniversary. They never made it back.

I remember staying up late with my sitter, Mrs. Lee, waiting for them to get back. Then our doorbell rang, I stayed on the couch while Mrs. Lee went to go answer, when she came back with a police officer and another lady I knew something was wrong, I mean why would they come here otherwise? The other lady was a child service worker. My parents' only family was me and they'd been the only family I'd ever known at the time. I'm only half Korean, that and my parents were naturalized, and I really didn't have anything left for me in America so it was decided I stay in Korea.

I again found myself in an orphanage. The other children were nice enough, but like I said I'm only half, my primary language was English. I was hazed by some of the older kids, so my memories from there aren't all exactly happy. Eventually though another family took me in, I'd been placed in a child-at-risk program. The family that took me in would be my third chance. I was still only six, I'd lost my family again and again, I'd lost my parents seven months ious to the Yong family taking me in.

My most vivid memories as a child are with Junhyung, my older brother. He took it upon himself to make me smile. Junhyung is five years older than me and he'd readily made me his little sister and treated me as such. While growing up Junhyung took very good care of me, and so I did my best to take care of him as well. I followed him around constantly after a while; he never seemed to leave me anywhere, always showing up when I needed him. I grew up with him at my side, so naturally whatever he took an interest in I tried my best to as well; dancing and rapping, performing, it didn't matter I didn't matter what so long as I could keep him near, in turn Junhyung did the same. So as a result we’d only grown closer through the years.

Junhyung had been the one to urge me to be a trainee, eventually I'd join Cube, partly because I wanted to be close to him, but also because I liked the family atmosphere that seemed to surround everyone there. Soon I was placed in a group, Prodigy. In all my life the one thing I've come to know is that life is unpridictable, complicated, hard, and a lot of work, but there are moments, people, that make everything that happens in life worth it.
