Established in 1995, Beonhwa High School was created using an American style school system. Dr. Daniel Lee, our founder, attended an American high school. He had moved to America right before his "Freshman" year. The striking differences between the Korean and American schooling systems caused him to grow interest in education. When he moved back to Korea after completing his Doctorate degree in an Ivy League University, he had noticed the drastic differences between the two countries' school systems. He had made Beonhwa High (Beonhwa meaning "change") in attempt to lessen the stress Korean students have from Korean style school systems. Beonhwa promotes students to reach into other areas of interest, such as sports and the performing arts, instead of focusing 100% on studying. Prospective parents should not fret as education is still the primary focus of the administration and faculity. Located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Beonhwa's tuition is free. But, there are many students on the waiting list. Students undergo an application process to enroll into the school. Since Beonhwa is utilizes an American style school system, students may express their own styles (meaning no uniforms), lockers are used, and students have six (up to seven) different class periods and teachers. |
