Day 22- Reason
To Death, my friend
Chapter 26
Day 22 – Reason
--
The room was silent as both figures sat face to face, an office table between them. Mr.Kim had been trying to calm himself down for what felt to Nana like an hour as she was impatient. She started tapping her foot and her finger’s nails on the chairs support, giving the sign that she was waiting for him.
He cleared his throat once, “What do you want me talk about Miss…”
Nana took a thinking stance, “Hmm… how about we talk about the past?”
“What is there to reminisce about the past?” He started fiddling with the messy papers on his desk.
“Around 2007, I’m pretty sure your relations got better, am I right?”
He gulped down, as sweat started forming on his forehead. “Yes… Are you one of them? I have nothing I swear.”
Nana narrowed her eyes. “One of them? Are you talking about the Yakuza group?”
“Y-yes.”
“No, I’m just… an agent searching for some precious documents.”
“Who are you affiliated to? I have nothing to give.”
“Oh, that’s what you say but I know better, Sir. You might as well lie and I’ll see through it, so don’t try anything. Tell me what happened the night of the 1st December, in 2007.”
Seeing Nana’s firm tone, he understood there wouldn’t be any harm unless he told a lie. “I… I was in my personal office; I was still in business then until I retired two years later. I was stressing out that night, pacing back and forth. Much later, I received a phone call from the mafia’s boss at Japan saying everything was doing well between us. And our connections were conducted better after that night.”
Nana felt skeptical at the story. “Why were you stressing out that night?”
“To be honest, I don’t remember, now that I think of it, there might as well have never been a well-founded reason.”
“Are you sure it’s not because there might have been someone trying to worsen your connection to there?”
“Someone? No.. No I don’t think so. Is there anything else you want to say?”
“If dad was willing to let her wok at that time… then he must not have known about her ual orientation or he would’ve not wanted to contact her ever. Try to tell him about a girl, a daughter, he loved much and that always wanted to try her best for him so he didn’t fall into bad things. Tell him about a daughter that would never let him down… unlike his other daughter…” Nana remembered what Jungah had told her earlier in the day.
I might as well come up with a story with the infos I already have, wishing it’s enough close to make him remember.
“Yes… Sir… let me tell you a story… There was this family, consisting of a dad, mom, and their two daughters. They were happily living in a neighborhood until they decided to move out for the dad’s business. The dad one day learned about the eldest’s love interest and was much angry, sending her off on her own, not willing to see her face anymore. The mom and the youngest were sad. The mom was being supportive though, but dad did not listen. Meanwhile, the youngest got into business and was thinking of aiding her father in his current one. He did accept and his daughter learned about his dark secret one day. She didn’t want him to continue using the help of a treacherous and dangerous group, so she tried to get in his way, trying to break all links with them… Of course, they weren’t going to let her alone and she might have had to face kidnapping and torture for them. The dad was in such a stre
