Self Worth: One O' One

Description

At the age of ten, one is tested: weight, height, health, personality, appeal, and much more are all examined. No area of interest is ignored. The examination process is repeated annually until one's twenty-third birthday. After each test, a score will be determined between 0 and 100, with zero being the absolute worst. The child will then be located or relocated in the appropriate zone for their new score, if a new score has been generated at all. Each zone within the city is designed to accommodate for its residents and their respective scores.

Summary of the preamble of The 2104 Proposition to the Council

Foreword

There is an examination system that exists with fierce intimidation and rule. It controls the lives of everyone, no matter if it is this city or the next. The specific algorithims and criteria are known to none but the mastermind computer. It works endlessly, assigning and reassigning, for everyone in the world. It builds new cities when old ones grow crowded and weaken.

While the offcials would like to think they have all reigning power, it's obvious that they are astonishingly insignificant when compared to the mastermind. Officials are here to see to tedious tasks that the computer has no time or care for. They are peace-keepers; they are care-takers. Yet, that is the extent of their abilities. Sure, the officials may play sovereigns and spread laws and regulations but it comes down to nil if the computer rejects or does not enforce. It is this public secret that keeps them haughty and arrogant. They need fuel for ever growing egos so they push more humorous laws to be carried out. Because where would a care-taker be if there is nothing is be taken care of?

Even so, with their striking authority, officials can do not of us. We are elusive and enchanting, caring of our own and have no need of their services. We recognize their worth is zero or close to, comitting the greatest crime of questioning the mastermind. For this deed, we may not be forgiven but I like to think the computer favors us over officials--a daring thought when we have broken some of its personal laws.

Harm is the least of our goals. The system is too frigid for what must be done and what must be done must be done. Transfers and long distance travels must be given clearance from the high of the high. There is no higher than the computer. Minor reworking of storage data and predetermined codes allows for acceptable leeway; enough, that is, to let us play opposing sovereigns with mysterious identities and the officials cannot stop us. We're careful with our work, shifting around only familiar territory, enough to get the job done. Then we are out with hands clean. Well, with hands cleans and knowing smirks.

Okay, this sounds pretty awesome. Like a real story. About hackers. Master hacker rebellion towards "the Big Computer". But dude, I must say, although it looks pretty freaking awesome and sounds great, people might get turned off by the bland font style and colour. Not that I really care, but you know how much they love colour. It takes me ages just to do mine.
