The Way You Move

Lights flashed and the beat pumped as Kate pushed her way through the club.  As she followed her friend deeper into the heart of Gilligan’s she passed by the usual drunk mass that milled about, recognising some of the faces as regulars like herself.  She couldn’t help but scan her surroundings, hoping to see the somewhat familiar face.  She had spied him there a couple of times over the past few weeks, having brushed passed him just before on a run to the bar.

She couldn’t spot him however and as one song gave way to another she felt her excitement rise regardless.  Successfully making it into the centre of the dance floor she grinned at her best friends, throwing her arms up to the music.  These were the times she felt most free, out here on the dance floor with nothing to worry about but the fun she was having and the beat that pumped through her.

Shifting to the left as she made room for a short line of people to cut across she felt her breath hitch.  She had finally spotted him again, leaning against the stage with a drink in his hand as he spoke to his friends.  He was fairly short and slim, with light brown hair that fell over exotic eyes.  She felt herself get bumped around by the people nearby and the nerves rise up as he happened to glance over, their eyes locking for a moment.  With a nervous grin she snapped her head away, her friend giving her a knowing glance as she returned her attention to the group.

“You should ask him for a dance!” Lynnie urged over the music and Kate quickly shook her head, her red hair falling about her face.  It was a suggestion she had heard more than once but she could never work up the nerves to actually approach someone.  Unlike her friends she didn’t have alcohol to loosen her up and give her confidence, however fake it was.  Lynnie’s eyes rolled at the usual answer, but a moment later a smirk appeared on her face, an elbow meeting Kate’s ribs.  “Looks like you’re in luck.”

Kate barely dared to turn around, finding the boy now beside her and throwing her glances of his own.  She could barely return them, biting down on her lip as the nerves coursed through her.  There was a moment where she tried to talk herself into things, asking herself how hard it could be to indicate for him to move closer.  She didn’t need to however as Lynnie shoved her and she crashed into the boy.  He grinned at her as he reached to steady her and she murmured a thank you before she realised that his arms had dropped, but he was still looking at her expectantly.  Taking a deep breath she began to swing her hips to the music once more and he took his cue, joining in.  She tried to force her way passed the nerves as their bodies hovered close together tilting her head slightly as he leant in.

“You are very attractive,” he said and she blushed, reaching to steady herself as more people knocked into them.  “I have seen you around here a bit.  I’m Heechul.”

“I’ve seen you too and I’m Kate,” she admitted and he broke into a grin, seeming to take fresh confidence from her words and pulled her closer.  Together they moved to the beat as song after song passed them by, occasionally straining their voices to be heard over the music.  As a familiar melody rang out Kate bounced in excitement, breaking from his grasp and stepping back, a confused expression crossing his face.  Shaking her body to the music she couldn’t help but feel a small rush of glee as his gaze took her in, biting down on his lip.

He reached for her again and she followed the lyrics, turning her back on him and sidling up to him.  She leant back slightly as his hands landed on her hips, feeling his body against hers and she grinded into him.  Usually she wasn’t like this, while she loved dancing it seemed to be that as soon as anyone came into contact with her she was either repulsed or too shy.  She didn’t quite catch what Heechul said as he murmured something in her ear and she turned her head to regard.  She was caught off guard when a moment later she felt his lips against hers, but it only took her a moment to return the kiss, her arm reaching to snake around his neck.  They only parted when air ran low and Kate immediately spun around to face him once more, Heechul pulling her as close to him as he could.

“You know, I wondered how I was going to manage this.  I’ve watched you reject every guy that tries to make a move on you,” he said and she let out a laugh, wrapping her arms around his neck as she reached up to reply.

“I didn’t realise you were paying that much attention to me.”

He smirked down at her as his hands travelled over her curves and she felt a jolt run through her with the action, her stomach flipping.  She tugged on his collar, bringing him in for another kiss as they swayed together, unsure if it was even to the beat.  His scent was intoxicating and she couldn’t stop the smile as they pulled back.  She barely registered the tap on her shoulder, turning blindly to find Lynnie standing behind her.  Indicating towards the exit, Kate nodded in acknowledgement, a frown forming on her face.  It was quickly erased though as she returned her attention to Heechul, reaching to grab his hand.

“Would your friends mind if I borrowed you for the night?” she asked and he shook his head, though the look on his face almost suggested he wouldn’t be following her towards the door.  Taking a step into the crowd she let a squeak as he pulled her back and she collided with his body.

“My friends won’t mind if yours don’t,” he said suggestively and she swallowed thickly.  She searched his face for several moments, noticing anew his good looks and with a short laugh she nodded, pulling him through the crowd and towards the night that lay before them.
