The Birthday

The Olive Branch

December 5th. The day where Yuri would celebrate her birthday, and where Jessica almost had a heart attack after seeing two strangers approach them in front of the mall. As Jaejoong had promised, he did bring along a friend. The only problem was...

"Jaejoong? Is that you under the hood? Yunho? Why are you wearing glasses?" Yuri asked, squinting her eyes. Jessica faked a laugh and pulled off her red scarf. She covered it around Yuri's eyes, and pushed her into the mall.

"Oh! That's not Jaejoong or Yunho! Those are two... strangers! Yes, just strangers. Look Yuri, just save a seat at the fast food corner and I'll meet you there. I'm sure the girls," Jessica said, particularly emphasizing on the gender, "are coming soon."

"O... Okay," Yuri mumbled, walking into the shopping mall. She glanced back at the two boys, then scrunched her eyebrows. It couldn't be that Jessica brought Yunho and Jaejoong, right?

Once Yuri went inside, Jessica turned around and glared at Jaejoong. She grabbed his collar and gave him a dreaded look.

"Where are the girls?" Jessica cried. Jaejoong faked a laugh and rubbed the back of his neck. He looked away and asked for Yunho's help. Yunho only shrugged his shoulders, still confused over why he was at the mall with Jaejoong. Was he supposed to be hooked up with Yuri or Jessica?

"U-Um, you see... So you know how we had that conversation at the supermarket? Yeah, well, after you left, I looked over my contacts, and turns out that I have no girls on my contacts! Yep. I only had Yunho, my home phone, and my parent's numbers. So I tried to ask Yunho for some help, but it kind of turned out to be me saying that Yunho was supposed to be hooked up with a birthday girl and... Yeah..." Jaejoong shut his eyes and waited for a response. Instead of feeling a sharp pain across his cheeks, he found Jessica staring at him with a horrified expression.

"And you didn't even bother to explain to Yunho about this matter?" Jessica asked, gritting her teeth.

"Like I said, I tried," Jaejoong said. "Give me credit for trying!"

"B-But I promised Yuri that some girls would... This is all your fault!" she blamed, glaring at Jaejoong.

Jaejoong widened his eyes in response. "My fault? So it's my fault that you asked me to bring some girls? I told you not to be disappointed if things don't go as plan! You could've at least made a back-up plan!"

"I did make one. But I didn't make one that excluded girls! Ugh, how am I going to explain this to Yuri?" Jessica muttered, shaking her head. She paused, then stared at them. For a moment, she did not smile. Then, the corner of her lips tugged upwards. "Hey, have you guys ever cross-dressed before?"

Jaejoong and Yunho stared at each other, then took a step back away from Jessica while shaking their heads.

"No way. I am not cross-dressing!" Yunho exclaimed. He heaved a sigh and took off his fake glasses. "Look, now that I understand the situation a little, why don't I call some of the girls I know on my list? Would that help?"

"It's too late now!" Jessica cried out. "It took us an hour to come to this mall. It took almost over an hour for you two to come, too. I don't want Yuri to wait."

"Then just have the two of us as the substitutes," Jaejoong said. "It doesn't kill to have some guys in the group."

"Why did you even choose this mall?" Yunho asked, looking up. "Everything here is so expensive."

"Duh. Why do you think I chose this place? Because there's good food, a ton of cute stuff, and it's a great place to explore!" Jessica exclaimed. She sighed and rubbed her eyes tiredly. "Okay, fine. Since you guys were nice enough to come over here, you can join us. But if you get Yuri mad or anything, I'm kicking you out, and you have to invite those girls, alright?"

"Deal," Jaejoong said, shaking Jessica's hands.

You better not disappoint me anymore, Jaejoong! Jessica thought.

"So let me get this straight. You asked these two idio--"

"Let's use a nicer term, Yuri. I mean, come on! It's your birthday! I remember that one of your birthday wish was to be respected. If you want to be respected, you got to be a bit nicer," Jessica said, faking a laugh.

Yuri made a face. "Okay, fine. So you asked these two... boys, who have no sense of responsibility, for help? I think you made a wrong choice, Jessica."

"I know that I made a wrong choice, but this is all I got! I'm really sorry, Yuri. Forgive me?" she asked, clasping her hands together. Yuri stared at her, and heaved a sigh. She looked across from her, where Yunho gave her a blank look.

"Fine. But if he messes something up, I'm going back home. Okay?" Yuri told her. Jessica grinned and nodded her head. She held up the menu and passed it to the two boys sitting across from her.

"Yes! Eat up, guys. It'll be my treat," Jessica told them. Jaejoong blinked his eyes, surprised how kind Jessica could be. When he opened the menu, his eyes almost popped open.

Yikes! So expensive! I don't think she has this kind of money, Jaejoong thought, looking at Jessica. He glanced over at Yunho, who also wore a frown. From the look of his face, Jaejoong could tell that Yunho also thought how expensive this restaurant was. He jumped out of his seat a bit when Yunho slammed the menu and tossed it in front of him.

"You think you can pay for all this?" Yunho asked, narrowing his eyes at Jessica.

Jessica blinked her eyes. "W-Well, not all, but I can pay what you guys want--"

"So if I said that I wanted a steak with additional items like salad with desert, you would go along with it?" Yunho asked. Jessica squirmed a bit in her seat. He scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Forget it. I'll pay for it."

Yuri raised an eyebrow. "So if I ordered a steak with a salad and desert, you would go along with it?"

Yunho stared at Yuri for a moment. "Yes. Yes, I would."

Suddenly, she broke into a big grin. "Sweet!"

Seeing Yuri grin, Yunho couldn't help but break into a small smile. Jessica narrowed her eyes at him, envious of his rich state. Jaejoong held back his laughter and pitied Jessica, who was supposed to be the one spoiling Yuri.

I think I can live for a few hours like this, he thought, looking over the menu. After a few minutes, a waiter come over to take their orders. Yuri stared at the waiter with curious eyes, expressing her interest in him. She bit her bottom lip and smiled, and ordered Caesar salad.

"What happened to the two plates of steak?" Yunho asked, smirking at her. Yuri gave him a glare.

"I was just joking," she said, sticking her tongue out. "I am a woman who eats lightly and very carefully. Plus, since I'm going to dance, I have to be skinny."

"I want three plates of steaks, two salads, and can I have a soda with it?" Jessica asked, closing her menu. Jaejoong gave her a wide-eyed stare, surprised at how much she could eat.

Is she even a girl? Jaejoong wondered. "Um, I'll just a plate of steak for now..."

He stopped when he caught his friend stare at Jessica in an odd way. The way Yunho had his eyes glued onto Jessica's warm smile caused Jaejoong to feel a sharp pain in his chest. He couldn't help but grimace, and unconsciously shoved his menu in front of Yunho's face. Yunho snapped out of his thoughts, then quickly blinked his eyes as he looked around and collected the menus.

"I-I... I'll just have the special," Yunho stuttered, giving the menus to the waiter. The waiter smiled and eyed at Yuri.

"So four plates of steaks, three salads, the special, and a soda, yes?" Everyone nodded their heads. The waiter smiled and turned his attention towards Yuri. "Okay. Can I get you any drinks? Maybe a wine for the lovely lady over here?"

Jessica's eyes glowed. "I want a glass of wine, too!"

"Water for all of us," Yunho said. "No wine." He paused, then motioned his finger for the waiter to come closer. "Please don't flatter this young lady of ours. She's quite spoiled when it comes to her birthday."

The waiter widened his eyes, taking Yunho's words as a threat. "A-Ah! I see! So it's your girlfriend's birthday. Congratulations!"

Yuri gasped and turned bright red. Yunho's ears turned red, and he shook his head. Before he could clear things up, the waiter rushed away to take their orders. He heaved a sigh and covered his face with his hands.

"Great. Now someone thinks that I'm dating her," Yunho muttered, groaning loudly.

Jaejoong snickered. "Well, at least it's not BoA for once!"

Yunho gave him a glare and cleared his throat. He adjusted his tie and tapped his fingers against the table impatiently. Jessica smiled slyly, then gave Yunho a teasing look.

"Ooh! I think someone has a little crush on the birthday girl!" Jessica teased, extending her arm diagonally to poke him. Yunho pushed his chair back, making a loud, squeaky noise. Some of the customers stared at them, startled by the noise. Yunho bit his bottom lip and gave everyone around him an apologetic look. He turned his attention back to Jessica, then curled his fingers under the table.

"I-It's not like that! It's just a silly mistake. Who would even like this girl? She's a spoiled--" Yunho stopped, then cleared his throat. She's the birhday girl. Be nice! "I mean... You know, let's just drop the topic. The waiter made a mistake. That's it."

"Oh yeah? Well, it must've affected Yuri a lot. She hasn't said a word since the waiter said that!" Jaejoong pointed out. The three stared at Yuri, who was still blushing. Her lips trembled to say something, but nothing came out. Once the waiter came back with the glass of water, Yuri stood up from her seat and cleared .

"U-U-Uh... Restroom!" she exclaimed, running away from the scene. Jaejoong pressed his lips, then stared at Jessica.

"Does this mean that we have to get out of here?" Jaejoong asked quietly.

"It... depends," Jessica said, staring off at the direction Yuri disappeared to.

Yunho groaned, and glared at the waiter and sarcastically said, "Great. Thanks a lot!"

The waiter, who placed the last glass of water on the table, stared at the trio in confusion. "Did... I do something wrong?"

@ErinKrystal: Well, I'm probably not going to do a sequel (and if I was, it would probably highlight their marriage life or maybe one of their children's life), so yeah. ^^;;
