Chapter 14

Facade

Zaion’s POV:
“Here I go...”

I walked backstage while Baekhyun and CL went to sit in the stands. Much to my (un) surprise, she was waiting for me with her stupid gang. Trust me, I’m no idiot.

“Nice to see you decided to show up. Take a seat.”

She pulled up a fold-out chair directly across from her.

“Gladly.”

I sat in the chair and two guys grabbed my arms. I smirked but Vianey had a face of all seriousness.

“What is this for?”

“Nothing special.”

I scoffed.

“Nothing special? If that’s true then why are these goons all over me?”

Vianey looked me dead in the eyes.

“So that you can hear me out.”

I blinked.

“What are you talking about?”

She sighed and took a seat across from mine.

“I feel so awful for what I did to you. I could never get to sleep at night. It ruined my life and yours. We used to be best friends but I messed that up just to be cool.”

By this time she was crying. It was a rare sight to see her cry.

“You’re darn right you ruined my life. Mentally, emotionally, and physically. I have an unknown and incurable disease and I have to live with it! All they know is that it’s not contagious and that I could possibly DIE a really painful death if I’m not careful.”

Her eyes widened as well as my own. She was probably that way from guilt but I was like that because of my carelessness I was so spacy and jumpy this morning that I forgot to take my medicine.

“Vianey, I have to leave, right now!”

“No, I am not finished, I need to clear this up!”

“Vianey, I atleast have to get Baekhyun, let me go this instant!!!!”

“Why won’t you hear me out?”

We were both crying now. Her tears were from the revenge of her conscience. Mine were from panic.

“Go get Baekhyu-go get-go right-”

I felt my body falling slack. The guys holding on to me immediately let go. I fell down to the floor, flailing and spasming about.

“Zaion! Zoion, oh my gosh, what do I do? What do I do?”

All I could do was stare. My ability to speak was shot. Things had never gotten this bad before.

“Vianey, she said something about Baekhyun! Go get him!”

She ran out into the auditorium. Soon after she left, things went black.

Vianey’s POV:
That was the most horrendous thing I ever had to see. Tears streamed down my face. I ran out in the middle of the cheerleaders’ dance, calling out for Baekhyun.

“BAEKHYUN, IT’S ZAION, COME NOW!”

He wasted no time, CL followed behind. Principal Greyson and some others came along, too. Zaion was still writhing on the ground with her eyes open, though it was apparent that she wasn’t conscious.

“I can’t believe I caused this. I’m such a bad person!”

My eyes were blurred with tears. So were Zaion’s. So were Baekhyun’s.

“Call an ambulance now!” Baekhyun shouted.

My heart dropped. I could never forgive myself.

Baekhyun’s POV:
Seeing  them take her away on the gurney was the most painful sight ever. I couldn’t ride with her so Principal Greyson offered me a ride to the hospital, which I graciously accepted.

Principal Greyson dropped me off and volunteered to pick up my little sister.

I saw the doctors and nurses rushing Zaion into the emergency room. My head was spinning. I didn’t even know what happened. Not knowing really made me hurt inside.

In the waiting room, there were lots of our teachers and some of the kids from the pep-rally. In the corner of the room were CL and Vianey. She was rocking back and forth, crying and shaking. Vianey and CL gripped each other's’ hands tightly.

When Vianey saw me, she immediately stood.

“Baekhyun, I’m so sorry about Zaion. If I could have gone back to prevent that stuff from happening, I would. I wish I had thought of the possibilities before all of it before it even took place. I don’t want you, losing her to be my consequence. That hurts you as well as her and I don’t-”

“Vianey, it’s okay. She was gonna forgive you anyway.”

She looked shocked.

“What?”

“She was going to forgive you anyway. Not for you, but for her. She wanted you to both be able to walk away from that situation. That’s why we wanted to come with her. To make sure nothing happened before she got that out.”

Vianey hugged me.

“What was that for?”

“For telling me that. Others would have let me suffer.”

“Don’t thank me. Thank Zaion when we get to see her.”

We all had been waiting for nearly five hours when the nurse came out.

“You can see Zaion now but one at a time.”

Everyone urged me to go first. When I walked into her room she was staring lazily out of the window.

“I wish it were over”, she said without looking at me.

“What do you mean?”

“Right now we are in tight spots in our lives and can’t seem to get out.”

“Again, what do you mean by that?”

She sighed and I knew something was coming.

“I’m saying that we should put our relationship on hold until we get our lives sorted out.”

I was more than ready to wait for her.

“Okay then. Until we get things sorted out.”

“You seem upset.”

“I’m not upset, I’m happy that you’re being honest with me about this.”

She mumbled.

“Doubt it.”

I blinked at her.

“Uhm...what?”

“Nothing, nothing.”

“Oh...okay.”

I was about to leave but she stopped me.

“Are you sure you aren’t upset?”

“I’m positive. Are you doubting my honesty?”

“No, I just don’t think you’re being completely honest with me.”

“That’s a contradiction, in and of itself! Are you hinting something out of all that you said?”

She still avoided my eyes.

“What. Do. You. Mean?”

“I think you know what I mean.”

“If I did, I wouldn’t have asked.”

“You do. Deep down, I know you do.”

Tears were welling up in her eyes. I understood very well.

“Goodbye, Zaion.”

“No, no, no! It’s only until we can figure things out!”

I turned and looked straight in her eyes.

“Or maybe, it’s forever.”

No words were spoken afterward. I left the hospital room and went back to the waiting room. Su-Young was talking to CL and Vianey.

“Susu, let’s go.”

“Are we going back to Zaion eonnie’s house?”

“Yeah, to get our stuff.”

Su-Young groaned in protest but walked beside me. As we were walking we were stopped by the angry red face of my father.

“Where are you going with Su-Young?”

“Away”, I answered blankly.

I wasn’t in the mood to deal with him.

“Why aren’t you coming home?”

“I think that you of all people would know why I’m not going back.”

“You know what, go on.”

That’s exactly what I did. While I was walking he didn’t even try to follow. I don’t know what it was, but his calmness didn’t sit right with me.

Su-Young and I made it to Zaion’s house. We go our things and set off on our way.

Chapter 21: Just finished reading the whole story and it was cute and funny at times. The only thing is it seems the "intense hatred" towards their children come from nowhere. Like I get that Baek's parents drink and fight a lot but both sets of parents were very extreme, I guess it made for more excitement and routing for the kids.
