I Can't Say 'Saranghae'

Description

With a divorced single father, an international education, and 2 best friends who spend more time at her house than she does, Cho Jyongri is a Korean who doesn't know a word of the language and has never questioned any part of her 'normal' life. However, everything changes when her dad dies and she's forced to leave the security of her life in Japan for Seoul, South Korea. There she must face a mother she doesn't trust, a 'father' she'll never accept, and a cousin-turned-brother whom she vaguely remembers.

Will she find her Seoul or return to Tokyo?

Jyongri has never questioned anything about her seemingly average life. She goes to school, hangs out with her friends, shops for groceries and clothes, takes class trips, and does her homework just like every other normal 16 year old girl. Sure, her parents' divorce was finallized 7 years ago and she doesn't remember what her mother looks like, sure, she's spent the past 3 years of her life in America at boarding school instead of with her dad in Japan where she was born, and sure, she's a 2nd generation Zainichi* who doesn't know a word of Korean, but that was just the way things were. Who was she to question the essence of her life?

She may not have asked the questions, but, then again, she may not have needed to. The answers came to her one bright and sunny day when she received a phone call in the middle of her History Class. She was immediately sent to the office and then to her room to pack her things. Her father, whom she had still visited during vacations and holidays, had just been found dead in Tokyo Harbor by some local fishermen. An investigation showed that he hadn't been to work for the past few days after going out for drinks with some coworkers. They figured that he was just a little sick or still tired and hung over from all the drinking they had done, but the cops thought differently. Their story was that, after he had left his friends, he had been drawn to the harbor for some yet-to-be-determined reason. Something had caught his attention, probobly in the sky or ocean, or even on a boat, and he was feeling curious. According to them he had been so drunk that, while leaning over the safety railing for a better view of whatever he had been distracted by, he had lost his balance and fallen over. Once in the water, he had been too intoxicated to use his common sense to realize that his jacket was weighing him down.

Thus, he drowned.

With him gone, there was no one left to take care of her and, most importantly to the school, no one left to pay her tuition. She was sent back to Japan immediately and stayed at her house with her sisterly friends for a week. Then, a few days before the funeral, she received a letter in the mail with an enclosed airplane ticket inside.

| Jyongri, I know it's a bit sudden, but make sure that you have all of your things packed and ready to go.
The day after your father's funeral you will make your way to the Shibuya International Airport and take the 10:30 a.m. flight to Seoul.
I'll be waiting.

Love,

Mom |

- A Bother From The Author -

Wow, that took me a while to think of but at least it's finally there. This is my first fanfic ever, least to say here, where I actually have a plan for what I am trying to do and might actually be able to finish. -Yay!-

I will try my best to update my story, address comments in side-notes, and what-not and so-forth while I am writing this story. The main thing that I want done in exchange, however, would be that readers comment. Please, give me your opinions, criticisms, joys, annoyances, and hopes for where I might be going with this story. Comments keep me attentive and writing and I really really want to finish this. So please, tell me what you hate/like, who you want with who (couple ideas), what you think of the characters, and what you hope happens next. I'd really like to know what you think of the things I'm thinking of.

Also, please keep in mind that nothing I write here is actually true and that each individual persona and background history I give these characters isn't based on anything other than imagination. Seriously, I hate when people get all heated and say things like 'so-and-so would never do that'. Obviously, in my story, they would. Also, I do not own (although sometimes i wish i did) or claim to own any of the mentioned characters in anyway. They are copyrights of their company and everything I type or say about them or in regard to them is purely fanfictional and motivated by momentary hysteria.

That's all for now. 'Til next time!

P.S. I reserve the right to edit anything I write in the future, including the forewords.

[EDIT]
Just want to give a quick shoutout to Amy from Mystery-Cious for creating my awesome banner & matching background. It's amazing, isn't it? I just love it! (^_^)

Anyways, if any of you readers just so happen to be authors as well, you should check out www.mystery-cious.blogspot.com for some awesome designers who can make you different styles of banners and backgrounds for your own stories. Or, if you need a trailer or a review instead, they can hook you up with that too (man, I sound like one of those hip hop radio commercials, lol). So if you have the time, definitely make sure to check them out.

Hollllyyy snapppp! I don't really listen to Big Bang...but this story just made me "wow" so hard. It's absolutely amazing! The feeling you incorporate into your writing is positively fantastic! No grammar or spelling mistakes that are noticeable, and no faults at all! Your writing style is pretty great, and I'm going to keep reading! Good job. I now adore this story. <3
