In ancient Rome, the Gods caught wind of a princess so beloved by her subjects that they forgot to worship Venus, the Goddess of Love. Jealous, Venus ordered her son, Cupid, to make her fall in love with the ugliest thing in the world. However, Cupid fell deeply in love with her after he accidentally scratched himself with his own arrow while sneaking into her room to shoot Psyche with a golden arrow.

In the following days, Cupid visited Pysche every night while she slept. He spoke to her only in the dark so she couldn't see him, lest she recognised him. INcited by her older sisters who told ehr Cupid was a monster, Psyche took an oil lamp and tried to take a look at Cupid's face while he was sleeping. Cupid was aroused from his sleep when a drop of oil from the lamp dripped onto his face. Angered, Cupid left her.

Heratbroken, Psyche looked all over the known world to look for him until Venus told her that she would help Psyche find Cupid if she completed the task presented to her by Venus. Agreeing, Psyche completed each of the task, each getting harder than the next. Finally, Psyche got to her last task - To give Pluto a box containing something Psyche was not to look at.

On the way, Psyche's curiosity got the better of her and the box was opened. Enternal sleep was hidden within it by Venus. Cupid, no longer angered, brought her from her sleep. Psyche was given the gift of immortality by Juiter, the leader of the gods, so that she could be with Cupid. Together, the two had a daughter, Voluptas, meaning pleasure, and Psyche became a Goddess. Her name 'Psyche' means 'soul'.
