Gerald took a deep breath as he took a seat in one corner. Glancing at his wrist watch, it was fifteen past nine in the morning. He went over his script and got himself familiar with his lines. The first minute passed by and he kept reading, yet he could not concentrate….

He let out a shy smile as his eyes wandered from the script, zooming in to someone who was at the other corner of the room.

There was Kim, sitting. She was staring blankly at her script and Gerald didn’t mind spending the next minute watching her. Even in her silence, Kim never fails to amaze him. He could not begin to think how at first, he could not get what she was like and then Kim began coming out of her shell and that was when it hit him…hard. Simply looking at her was overwhelming. It brought about a rush of emotions in him and there was not even a single word to describe it.

On the other hand, Kim was just about ready to smile. Yes, she could see Gerald from where she was and could tell that he was looking at her. She hoped that in the distant, he could not tell that it made her blush. Even with everyone around, doing things and getting ready for the take, it was as if they were alone. Kim was looking forward to seeing Gerald today, not to mention excited even when he just brought her home last night from a pictorial. She had already missed him the moment he left.

The third minute seemed like forever as Gerald laid his head on a pillow that he always brings along with him on tapings and shootings. It was by far and has remained to him the most special gift that Kim has ever given him.

Kim pretended reading even when her mind was humming a certain song. She almost burst out laughing when she recalled the text message that Gerald sent him that morning.

“Good morning beautiful, how was your night?” **

To which she had replied,

“Hey handsome, are you singing this song?”

“Yep! And my night would have been wonderful if you were by my side…” *

Whoever thought Gerald could be so sappy? But whether she admit it or not, it was obvious that she likes him that way and she may not say it out loud, not everyday but she will always be grateful for having Gerald in her life.

Four minutes on the clock and the two remained glued to their seats. Both of them were silent. Gerald himself was humming that same song, as if having a duet with Kim.

Their minds seemed to be in unison, always thinking the same thoughts, dreaming the same dreams and what for now, singing as one.

“That’s it!” Gerald excitedly exclaimed after another minute. He grabbed a tumbler, one containing the protein shake that he himself had mixed for Kim.

Kim, on the other hand was smiling as she took a few steps to meet Gerald halfway.

“Good morning Kimmy!” Gerald was the first to speak. It felt good saying her name.

“Hello Ge!” Kim replied. “Is that for me?” She asked, pointing to the tumbler that Gerald had in his hand.

Gerald’s smile broadened, showing off his pearly whites.

“Hindi…”Gerald shook his head. “Para kay Miss Beautiful ‘to.”

“Really?” Kim played along, smiling.

“Of course, sino pa ba ang pinagtitimpla ko ng ganito everyday…Hindi ba ikaw lang?”

“And you think I’m beautiful?”

“I know you are.” He said matter-of-factly as he handed her the tumbler.

“Aysus, nambola ka pa.” Kim once again turned crimson red as she playfully slapped Gerald on his chest.

“So, how was your five minutes?” She asked, winking at Gerald.

“Long…” Gerald rolled his eyes. “But sweet…as always.” He grinned. “Yours?”

Kim pouted her lips.

“Hmmm… long and funny.”

“Funny?” Gerald asked with furrowed brows.

“Hindi mo ba nakita? I almost laughed. I almost didn’t make it to five…”

“Why?”

Kim took a sip of the protein drink before she answered. “Because it’s getting harder and harder for me to ignore you Mr. Anderson.”

“Talaga lang ha? Iba na talaga pag pogi…” Gerald jested.

“Ang kapal-kapal talaga ng mukha mo!” She said as she gave his smooth left cheek a not-so-gentle squeeze.

“Aray! Kim ha, mas nagiging pisikal ka na ngayon. Wag mo akong simulan…” His index finger pointed threateningly at her armpit.

She knew too well where this small spat would lead to so Kim just settled on giving him a warning look. After five seconds of full-blown “don’t make me” staring fest, Gerald’s lip twitched marking the end of their pseudo-LQ. Kim instantly caught on the white flag being waved and giggled her heart out in response. Gerald, being a good sport, joined in her moment of craziness and gave a booming laugh.

For about a minute, both were caught again in a world of their own. Knowing in their hearts that what they have is something that can never be taken away. That unspoken commitment that will always be there…

Gerald couldn’t help but give Kim a quick but tight hug…

Five minutes.

Those precious moments they endearingly labeled their “warm up” period never failed to start their day together right.

A minute to acknowledge the other’s existence…

A minute to admire…

A minute to recall and be grateful for what they have shared so far…

A minute to reconnect with each other after, mind you, few hours of being apart…

And the last, to fall in love all over again.
