Chapter 44
For you in full bloomSorry this is so short... I had sooo much homework this week and last week, but I'll try to update again by Friday.
All the sarangs,
Drg-Lee
It so happened that at that exact moment, Taemin sat on his bed, working on his maths homework.
“So then I have to plug the mean into my calculator,” he muttered, tapping the keys slowly. He frowned when the calculator displayed CALC ERROR and he threw it down in frustration. He pushed the work off to the side and rested his head on his desk, watching an ant crawl about on the plastic before he squashed it with his thumb.
His stomach rumbled and he went to the kitchen, munching on a piece of bread before feeling his phone vibrate in his left back pocket. He took it and scowled.
To: Taebaby <3
I found everything out. Aish, Taemin... I didn’t know it was this complicated.
To: Key Eomma
Do you want to talk?
To: Taebaby <3
Park in 10 minutes?
Taemin didn’t bother responding, only stuffing his phone back into his pocket before grabbing a sweater and heading out the front door. He arrived after Key did and sat on the cold bench next to him.
“Shouldn’t it be getting warm soon?” Taemin asked, breaking the silence between the boys.
Key nodded. “It’s almost April, but you know it’s still kind of cold around this time anyway.” The two watched a leaf flutter from a nearby tree and land in a puddle of melted snow.
“So, what did you find out, hyung?”
Key bit his lip. It wasn’t his style to beat around the bush. “Jonghyun’s father is arrested for my father’s crime.”
Taemin gasped. “Jonghyun? Like... Kim Jonghyun? Our hyung?”
Key nodded and pursed his lips. “I didn’t know that before, baby. I thought it was just a random person.”
Taemin agreed, mimicking Key’s actions. “Are you going to tell him?”
Key shook his head. “Dad promised to reveal his actions to the police in a week.” Sensing Taemin’s curiosity about why the man was waiting a week, Key continued. “He needs to get the company in order, he said.”
“Make sure he doesn’t run away, hyung.”
Key shook his head. “He won’t,”
“Did you find out who was killed?”
“No,” Key replied. “But didn’t your father say she was a foreigner? There aren’t many foreigners around here, so she must have just been a random person.”
“She was probably someone’s mother,” Taemin mused. There were a lot of things the woman could have been. She was in her late twenties at the time of her death, he’d been told. “Dad said that she had light hair.”
Key sighed. “This is really depressing, Taeminnie.”
Taemin agreed again, puffing out his cheeks. “So Jonghyun-hyung’s father and your father will be there at the trial?”
“Yeah,” Key mumbled. He twiddled his thumbs. “Come with me, okay? You can invite Minho if you’d like.”
“Yah, why would I invite him?” Taemin protested, a cute pout quickly forming on his face.
“You’re finally together! Your boyfriend should come with you to these things,”
Taemin pouted some more. “How did you know?”
“I’m your eomma, Taeminnie. I know when my baby likes someone!” Key pinched Taemin’s cheeks.
“I’ll invite Minho,” Taemin replied, kicking his legs. “Are you going to invite hyung?”
Key shook his head. “I’m sure he’ll come anyway. I’m not looking forward to this. How do you tell your boyfriend that your father framed his? For a murder, for god’s sake!”
Taemin shrugged. “Just don’t act weirdly around him, otherwise he might think something’s up.”
“Have you noticed Minho and Jonghyun spend a lot of time together lately?”
“Yeah, I did. I’m glad they’re becoming friends,” Taemin said, smiling.
“Me, too” Key responded, returning Taemin’s smile.
They sat for a while, their fingers intertwined, pulled together and smiles plastered on their cold faces while they watched the orange sun set over the melted dirty snow.
