All the members except for Jessica were sitting in the living room, watching tv. They've been switching channels from time to time because they have to watch both Yuri and Yoona's drama. Sooyoung was sitting beside Yoona and they were sharing a bar of chocolate. Yuri and Tiffany are whispering to each other, giggling from time to time. The remaining members were focused on the tv.

 

They decided to stay up late tonight since they're schedule tomorrow would not start until 2 in the afternoon. They heard the door clicked. It was Jessica. Her photoshoot wrapped up a several hours ago but Daniel offered her dinner and they went together.

 

The members greeted Jessica.  It's been a while since they've seen Jessica in the dorm. "How was your photoshoot, unnie?" Seohyun asked her.

 

"It was tiring. But it was great." She didn't want to let her members know about her dinner with Daniel because of a certain someone. 

 

"Jessi, oppa called earlier to tell us that you'll sleep here tonight. I thought your photoshoot ended earlier than expected. Where have you been?" Tiffany knew Jessica too well.

 

"..." Jessica didn't know how to answer the Tiffany without being teased. But it was too late. 

 

The other members start teasing her. Well, except for Sooyoung.

 

Yuri noticed Sooyoung. She decided that the teasing has to stop now. "Do that later. I'm watching here."

 

"Fine." The members muttered. They went back to watching the tv.

 

Sooyoung mouthed "thank you" to Yuri. Yuri just winked in response.

 

Jessica was about to sit next to Sooyoung but Tiffany offered her seat. "Sit here, Jessi. I'm going to cook something for this whiny brat right here." Tiffany pointed to Sooyoung and as Jessica followed Tiffany's finger, she caught Sooyoung's eyes for the first time that night.

 

Sooyoung diverted her gaze to Tiffany immediately, not wanting eye contact with Jessica for too long. She suddenly giggled at Tiffany's remarks earlier, a little late for a reaction but she did it anyway. “I'll help you out." She said raising her hand.

 

Tiffany and Sooyoung went to the kitchen, everyone else ignoring them except for Jessica who's still following Sooyoung with her eyes. She ended up sitting beside Yuri. "Is it supposed to be like this?"

 

"What are you talking about?" Yuri asked even if she perfectly knows what Jessica is pertaining to.

 

"Sooyoung and I..."

 

Jessica was cut off by Sunny. "Sica, why did you decide to sleep here tonight?"

 

"I just miss you, girls." Jessica answered. Everyone knew that she's just missing one member in particular.

When they decided to call it a night, everyone went to their respective rooms. Jessica was surprised to see Fany in their room. 

 

"Oh, sorry Jessie. I forgot that you're here. I'll just get my stuff back to my room."

 

"You've been sleeping here?" Jessica asked.

 

"Well, yeah. Sooyoung here has been so clingy these past few days. I think she's scared of the dark." Tiffany giggled while patting Sooyoung in her back.

 

Sooyoung just stood there without saying anything. She's just staring at Jessica. Jessica is too busy minding Tiffany's actions towards Sooyoung.

 

Tiffany felt the awkwardness between the two. She distanced herself from Sooyoung. "Uhm... I'll be going now. Goodnight, Jessie. Goodnight, Soo." Sooyoung's hands found her hand and squeezed it. "Goodnight."

 

Jessica's heart shattered at the sight. Tiffany felt nervous at that time knowing that she may have activated HellSica. But she smiled back at Sooyoung because she knows she's not doing anything wrong. Sooyoung and Jessica are not together and everyone knows that.

(February 2004)

 

Sooyoung was left alone in the practice room after a long day of practice. Everyone greeted her happy birthday at least once that day. Jessica didn't show up for practice and that made her sad. She wanted to celebrate her birthday with her best friend.

 

"Happy birthday to you,

Happy birthday to you,

Happy birthday, dear Sooyoung,

Happy birthday to you."

 

Jessica appeared at the door with a cake on her hands. Sooyoung's already tearing up because she thought that her best friend had forgotten about her birthday. 

 

"Unnie..." Sooyoung didn't know what to say. She couldn't contain her happiness. Tears can't help but fall from her eyes.

 

"Why are you crying?" Jessica asked. She wiped Sooyoung's tears away. Sooyoung did not answer but just continued crying.

 

"Happy birthday, Sooyoungie." Jessica kissed Sooyoung in the cheeks. "Make a wish and blow your candles."

 

Sooyoung blushed at the contact of Jessica's lips on her cheeks. She thought for a wish before blowing her candles.

 

"What did you wish for, Sooyoungie?" 

 

"Am I allowed to tell you?" Sooyoung asked innocently.

 

"Oh, right. Don't tell me. I'll just tell you my wish. I wished for you to achieve all your dreams and be very very happy." Jessica wiped Sooyoung's tears away again. She fixed the girls' hair.

 

"What about your dreams?" 

 

"My Sooyoungie is more important than my dreams." Jessica blushed after saying that. She couldn't look at Sooyoung in the eyes. Sooyoung can't help but smile upon hearing it. 

 

My wish is to fulfill my dreams with you.

(June 2007)

 

The girls just finished practice. This time it's for their debut stage. They're all happy that they'll finally debut. 

 

Sooyoung and Jessica are still inseparable. The other members noticed their special relationship but they chose not to ask a question. 

 

They decided to eat outside, all nine members eating together. 

 

"This food is so good." Sooyoung commented with full. 

 

"Don't speak with your mouth is full, unnie." Seohyun told her.

 

"Sorry, maknae." Sooyoung answered, still with full.

 

"Unnie, try this one." Yoona offered her food to Sooyoung. They continued feeding each other, fully unaware of the jealous Jessica beside Sooyoung.

 

"You'll be perfect together." Sunny concluded after seeing the two shikshins feed each other.

 

"They would fight about food everyday." Hyoyeon added.

 

"But I'm already Sooyoung's wife." Taeyeon joked around. When they were still classmates, they'd always studied math together. They'd always end up sleeping on the same bed. That's how Sooyoung started calling Taeyeon her wife.

 

Of course, Jessica didn't like this joke at all. The dinner went well for everyone but Jessica remained quiet for the rest of the evening.

 

"Jessi, are you okay?" Tiffany asked in english.

 

"I'm just tired." Jessica answered in english.

 

Sooyoung understood this basic english. "If you want you can rest your head on my shoulder." 

 

Jessica looked up. She's touched at this sweet gesture from Sooyoung. She rested her head on Sooyoung’s shoulder.

(Almost four months ago...)

 

"YulSic is real!" 

"Oh my God! It's Sica and her Kwon Seobang!"

 

Every concert, Sooyoung chose to ignore these shouts from fans. She'll continue doing her thing, giving out fanservice here and there. 

 

Backstage, they'll act the same. All of them became closer and closer through the years. Sooyoung and Jessica's relationship doesn't seem extraordinary anymore as everyone got extra closer ever since they debut. 

 

Someone handed Jessica a bottle of water. It was Sooyoung. No words were exchanged between them. Sooyoung will go back and laugh with Hyoyeon. Jessica will just stay quiet in a corner.

 

Sunny got a glimpse of who Jessica was texting. She grabbed Sica’s phone from the latter’s hand. As expected, Sica screamed.

 

“Yah, Sunny! Give me back my phone!”

 

Sunny ran towards Sooyoung’s direction and hid on the tall girl’s back. Jessica stopped on her tracks when she saw Sooyoung blocking her way to Sunny.

 

“Oppa, the concert is so tiring but the fans gave me energy. Thanks for encouraging me.” Sunny read Jessica’s text aloud.

 

Everyone teased Jessica after. Jessica couldn’t do anything because everything has been done. She walked to Sunny and grabbed her phone. She went back to her seat. Tiffany is the most affected. “Dongwook oppa? Be honest Jessica, are you dating him?”

 

Jessica smiled a little. “He invited me to dinner.”

 

“And?”

 

“I said yes.”

 

Tiffany squealed. Tiffany has a crush on Lee Dongwook. “Oh my god, Jessie. You’re so lucky.” 

 

Sooyoung was just a few feet away from them so she could not help but overhear. Over the years, many things have changed. She doesn’t call Jessica ‘unnie’ anymore. She doesn’t want Jessica to treat her as a younger sister. She wanted Jessica to feel like they’re friends, or even more than friends.

 

She couldn’t understand what happened but she felt Jessica drifting away from her. She really thought that what they have is something special. But she felt like Jessica is breaking away from her hold. They’ve become ordinary now.

(Three months ago…)

 

 

They were on their way home. Taeyeon was sitting beside their manager who is driving the van. Yuri and Jessica were on the front seat while Sooyoung and sat with Tiffany in the back.

 

Yuri was telling Jessica about the funny fansigns that she saw at the crowd that day. She had only half of Jessica’s attention because at the back, Sooyoung’s telling her own story. Tiffany’s claps can be heard by everyone in the van. Sooyoung’s story was so funny and Tiffany was always the one laughing at her jokes. Of course, it was not like this back then, but ever since they debuted, she had become extra closer to Tiffany. Tiffany is her new wife.

 

“Sica, are you even listening to me?”

 

Her full attention went back to Yuri. “I was. I guess I was just tired, I can’t focus anymore.”

 

“Rest on my shoulder.”

 

Jessica remembered those times when Sooyoung would be the one who would offer her shoulder to lean on. But she heard Sooyoung’s voice from the back. She’s still talking to Tiffany. She did not even care when Jessica said she was tired. Jessica sighed heavily and put her head on Yuri’s shoulder.

(Two years ago…)

 

Their manager scolded them because of they showed too much affection during their concert in Shanghai. Their manager wanted them to be more discreet with their interactions. If it was TaeNy and YulSic, he would have let it passed. But why must it come to this if it’s the two of them. 

 

They were the only one left in the room. 

 

“What should we do?” Sooyoung asked Jessica. She felt tears forming in her eyes.

 

“How important is your dreams for you, Sooyoungie?” Jessica asked Sooyoung.

 

“My whole life has been about achieving my dreams.” Sooyoung answered honestly. She didn’t anticipated the next thing that Jessica would say.

 

“Let’s be friends, Sooyoungie.” There has never been an official label to their relationship but these words meant something. Sooyoung understood it.

 

“No! Why can’t we stay the same, Sica?” She can feel her tears travelling down her cheeks right now.

 

“It’s for the best, Youngie. Remember years ago, I wished for you to fulfill your dreams. And it’s still my wish now.” Jessica tried fighting her tears but they still fell nonetheless.

 

“Why can’t we fulfill my dreams together?” Sooyoung’s tears continued to fall.

 

“We can. As friends. I’ll still be by your side. Not as close but I won’t be too far. I promise.” Jessica wiped Sooyoung’s tears. “Friends?”

 

Sooyoung didn’t know that this word could hurt her so much. “You’re leaving me. You don’t love me.”

 

Jessica was stabbed in the heart. “I love you, Sooyoungie. I love you more than you could ever imagine. But we can’t be more than friends.”

 

“Okay.” Sooyoung turned her back to Jessica. This is the first time in her life that she turned her back to Jessica.

 

After that day, they didn’t talk for days. It took them a few months before they actually acted as ‘friends’.

(Present)

 

They had just arrived in LA for the SMTown concert. Interestingly, SooSicFany were assigned the same hotel room. 

 

When they finally settled down, Jessica left immediately to go to Sunny’s room. She felt like she had no business being around SooFany. After a couple of hours, she came back to prepare for the rehearsals. SooFany was still in the same position, laughing with each other.

 

Jessica went to the couch, ignoring the two. She the tv and searched for something to watch. When she finally found a movie to watch, she can’t concentrate because of Sooyoung and Tiffany’s loud voice.

 

“Hey, you two. Can you get any louder?” She asked sarcastically.

 

Both looked back at Jessica. “Sica, we’re just talking.” Fany said.

 

“Sorry Sica, I’ll try to speak softer.” Sooyoung answered her. Sooyoung smiled at her. Jessica felt her breathing stop when she saw Sooyoung’s smile. She couldn’t remember the last time Sooyoung smiled that way to her.

 

She went back to watching tv again. 

 

 

 

At the SMTown concert…

 

The closeness between Sooyoung and Tiffany was so evident. They kept hugging each other throughout the night. They have their own jokes that are exclusive only to them. Jessica tried to keep her distance because she can’t handle the sight of SooFany being so close to each other.

 

There are times, however, that she would accidentally witness their interactions. It hurts her badly. She won’t deny that she’s jealous.

 

She felt someone hug her. It was Sunny. “Yah, Sica. Smile for the fans. They don’t want to see HellSica when they look back at the pictures they took years from now.”

 

“I was smiling. Why are you calling me HellSica?” Jessica tried to act like she doesn’t know what Sunny is talking about.

 

“I know, Sica. You don’t have to say it but all of us know.”

 

Sica felt grateful to the other members. She didn’t tell anyone of them what happened two years ago but everyone just seemed to know through their actions.

 

“Thanks, Sunny.” She hugged Sunny back.

 

After the concert was finished, Sunny approached her. “I can’t believe I’ve only seen this now. But you, Jessica Jung, is still madly in love with that giant.”

 

Jessica was speechless. Sunny was so straightforward. It’s the first time that someone opened up this topic to her.

 

“Oh, c’mon. Don’t even try to deny it.”

 

Jessica shook her head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

 

“Why’d you broken up with her?”

 

Jessica’s eyes widened. “H-how..Who told you?”

 

Sunny smiled. “Sooyoung told me.”

 

“You knew?!” She did not tell anyone about this. She didn’t expect that Sooyoung will confide with anyone.

 

“Of course. She cried to us so many times.”

 

Jessica did not speak after this. She’s busy absorbing everything.

 

Sunny continued. “She drank when you’re not around. That girl, she insisted to drink with me even if her alcohol intolerance is low.”

 

Clearly, this is the first time Sica is hearing this.

 

“I even told her to forget about you.” Sunny told her. 

 

Jessica could not believe her ears. “Why would you do that, Sunny? You are my friend too.”

 

“I am her friend too. I saw her suffered while you, you dated other guys. Can you blame me for thinking that you don’t love her that way?”

 

This is true. While Sooyoung vented all her feelings to the other members, Jessica tried forgetting Sooyoung by dating other guys. Of course, the relationships all end up very soon. For some reason, Sica would find something wrong with the guys she dated. The real reason is those guys were not Sooyoung.

 

“I love her.” That’s the only words that came out of Jessica’s mouth.

 

Sunny smiled. “I know. But why are you still moping around and sulking about SooFany by yourself?”

 

Jessica smiled too but with hurt with her eyes. “She has moved on. Why will I complicate her life again? I don’t want to hurt her again.”

 

Jessica was about to cry. She suddenly felt Sunny’s arms around her. “Don’t you want to try your relationship with her again? Just talk to her before it’s too late.” 

 

Jessica pulled off from the hug. “Thank you, Sunny.”

Later that night…

 

Jessica drank a couple of glass of wine before approaching Sooyoung. Taeyeon asked Tiffany to accompany her shopping. Sooyoung was reading a fashion magazine while lying in bed.

 

“You’re here. I thought you went out with them.”

 

Jessica sat at the edge of Sooyoung’s bed. Sooyoung patted the space beside her. Jessica complied with her wish and lie in bed beside Sooyoung.

 

“How are you, Sica?”

 

They both laughed after Sooyoung’s question. They see each other almost everyday but both felt like it’s been so long since they talked to each other. They talk but those were just small talks.

 

“I’m okay. How about you, Sooyoungie?”

 

Sooyoung’s heart skipped a beat when she heard ‘Sooyoungie’ from Jessica’s lips. They just stared at each other for a while. “You didn’t fulfill your promise.”

 

Jessica furrowed her eyebrows. She didn’t understand what Sooyoung was talking about. Sooyoung spoke again. “You didn’t stay. You did but you stayed too far and out of reach.”

 

Jessica smiled with tears in her eyes. “But you’re happy now, right?”

 

“It took me a while to be okay but I think I am now.” 

 

“And you fulfilled your dream. We’re conquering the world now.” Jessica wiped her tears before it can even fall from her eyes.

 

“I haven’t fulfilled my dream yet.”

 

Jessica looked up. “What did you say?”

 

“Nothing.” Sooyoung examined Jessica’s face. It’s been a while since she saw Jessica’s beautiful face this close. “We’re friends, right?”

 

It hurt Jessica as she nodded. “Yes, friends.”

 

“How are you feeling now, Sica?”

 

“I’m just tired.” Sica answered.

 

“You can lean on my shoulder if you want.” 

 

Sica smiled. But she did not do it. She put her arms around Sooyoung’s waist. “Can I hug you to sleep instead?”

 

Sooyoung smiled too. “That would be okay as well, Sica.”

 

She wiped her tears before hugging Sica back.

 

They fell asleep hugging each other. They’re only friends but at least they have each other. Not as close but not too far.

 

Finding someone like you is impossible.
