An Encounter in Fall

Description

This is a short one shot, I hope all you banas like it ouo

Foreword

Chanshik was reading a light novel during his lunch break. He wasn't extremely interesting in the book, but he had nothing better to do.

Not very outgoing in character, he's been isolated from his fellow classmates. Chanshik doesn't mind however, because no one in particular ever interested him.

No, he'd much rather spend his Wednesday early afternoon laying on a small hill under a tree, reading a book about a woman who never understood the desire of time machines.

A bright, red leaf fell onto the tip of his nose just when he got to the of the story. He picked it up, and blew it away. He then stopped and looked up where he noticed an abundance of red leaves falling down onto him. Chanshik didn't want to get up from his comfortable position, so instead he continued to watch the leaves fall for the rest of the lunch break. It was strangly calming to him.

"It smells like Fall," he whispered to himself.

Shinwoo sat on a bench with his classmate Jinyoung. He nibbled on his red bean bread he brought from home. He didn't really enjoy lunch breaks. He was never hungry but had nothing to do but eat.

"Fall's coming, huh?" said Jinyoung, trying to make conversation.

"Mmm, yeah. It smells like it," replied Shinwoo as he whipped out a carton of milk.

Jinyoung laughed, "How could it smell like fall? You can only tell by the changing of color--"

He stopped midsentence. His attention was caught by a person laying on a hill.

"You'd think that guy were a corpse. He's just laying there, not moving at all."

Shinwoo turned and looked at what he was staring at. He chuckled. "That's kind of funny. Do you know his name?"

Jinyoung was delighted, Shinwoo rarely laughed at jokes (or at least his). "I think his name is Chanshik. He's in my homeroom, but
he doesn't really talk. He just sits there, reading a book."

Shinwoo pondered his words for a moment, then fell into a blank stare towards Chanshik.

"Jinyoung," He said as he suddenly stood up. "I think I'll keep him company. Why don't you..."

Shinwoo didn't bother to finish his sentence. He threw away his half eaten bread and his empty milk carton into the trash can next
to the bench and started to walk up the hill. His friend was calling his name but he pretended that he couldn't hear him.

His mind was completely empty, he had no thoughts. All he knew was that he needed to meet this 'Chanshik'. Why? Even he didn't know.

~

Chanshik was entranced. He was never a nature freak, but today was different. Everything looked so beautiful in his eyes. Every single leaf that fell to the ground had its own unique pattern and splash of color. Amidst his thoughts, he felt someone kneel next to him, but didn't bother to turn his head and check who it was.

Several seconds felt like hours.

"Chanshik, is it?" said the man, after about 5 minutes of silence. Chanshik tilted his head slightly to face him. The first thing he noticed about him was his spectacles. The second thing was how handsome he was.
He got up from his cozy position and leaned against the tree.

"And... So what if I am?" asked Chanshik, not sure what the man wanted.

The man laughed nervously, "I'm Shinwoo."

Shinwoo?, thought Chanshik. That's great and all, but what does he want with me?

Shinwoo continued after he heard no reply. "I'd like to ask if I could spend my lunch break with you."

He turned bright red after he realized what he had said. "I-I mean, only if you want to."

A small, but noticable smirk emerged from Chanshik's face. He laughed, "Come tomorrow, Shinwoo. Today's lunch break is over in a minute."

~

The next day at precisely 12:35, Shinwoo rushed out of class right after the lunch bell rung.

Jinyoung raced after him. "Shinwoo! Where are you going?"

"Eat with Sandeul for today, I'm busy!"

He kept running until he was in the same place as yesterday, in front of the white bench. He caught his breath, and looked up.

Chanshik was there. And he was waiting for him.

~

Chanshik sat on top of the hill, his eyes following Shinwoo with his every twist and turn.

He finally looked up at Chanshik.

How adorable, he thought. He gave Shinwoo a sweet, welcoming smile. This should be fun.
