Seasonally inappropriate story yessss!

This is a drabble I wrote on a whim a while back (it wasn't written around Christmas, either). I was listening to one of my favorite songs, "Winter Song" by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson, and felt a spark of inspiration. The song itself is about missing someone you love, and the emotion of the song resonates very strongly with me in a very personal way.

The story is probably horrifically factually inaccurate in the way of Korean military rules, but I figured that fabricating a few things would really make this story.
