River Flows In You

The Piano Player

He looks out at the crowd in front of him, then at the piano.

He steps forward with the lights beaming on his face. He takes a seat, then the room falls silent.

Pressing the first key, then the second, the melody flows smoothly, with emotion, each not with it's own sound, it's own meaning.

His fingers are doing ballet on the keys; dancing gracefully, making sounds with each landing. Soft, beautiful melody pouring throughout the hall.

No sound from the crowd, no noise to disturb this performance, this perfection.

The las notes are played. He lifts his fingers from the piano and places his hands on his lap. He closes his eyes and takes in the sounds of the crowd applauding him, he feels a single tear trickle down his cheek.

This is the final performance of his life... His most prized and personal song has just been shared. He stands and bows.

"Thank you..." he whispers as he leaves the stage to be taken to the hospital, where he will spend his last few, lonely days...
